Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this m52 x 0.75 male thread? Also, what is the external diameter of this step down ring? Thanks

A: Yes, the 52mm end is male. I'm sorry but the external diameter is not available, you can contact Heliopan for more specific info; HeliopanDistributed By - H.P. Marketing CorporationTel: 800-735-4373 Website http://www.hpmarketingcorp.com/ Email info@hpmarketingcorp.com

Q: 2. can i use a step down on a 77 to 67 and then another on top of it from 67 to 49

A: Yes you use more than one step down adapter ring. Note you will get a lot of vignette when using that setup of 77 lens filter thread to a 49mm filter.

Q: 3. Does this cause heavy vignetting with prime lenses for example 50mm?

A: No, you should not get vignetting with a 50mm lens.

Q: 4. What is the thread pitch of the 48mm side? Will a M48x0.75 astronomical filter fit?

A: Yes.

Q: 5. I am thinking about purchasing an 82 mm neutral density filter. Is a step-down ring what I need to allow me to use this filter on my 77 mm lenses? Looking at the 82-77 step-down ring (#408) by Heliopan. Thanks!

A: What you would need is a step up ring instead, since you are trying to fit an 82mm filter on a lens with a 77mm diameter. Please see the following link: http://bhpho.to/1n8QhUq

Q: 6. Are the threads female on both sides?

A: No. The 58mm side is male and screws into the lens. The 49mm side is female and receives the filter's male threads.

Q: 7. I have a 58mm polarizer filter and now am purchasing a 62mm lens. Can I us a step-up adapter ring to make this work? If so which one do I want?Thank you.

A: As the 58mm filter you own is smaller than the 62mm filter threads on the lens you wish to purchase, you would need to purchase a 62-58mm step-down ring, such as the Sensei 62-58mm Step-Down Ring, B&H # SESDR6258. Do note that when using a filter with a smaller filter thread on a lens that has a larger filter thread, you may encounter some vignetting due to the smaller filter thread size. (not guaranteed, but it is a possibility of which you should be made aware).

Q: 8. Can multiple step down rings be used at same time to achieve desired use. For example, assuming one ring in size needed does not exist, can I use a 77mm to 72mm + a 72mm to 68mm at same time?Tks.

A: You could use multiple step-down rings together if the combination you need isnt available. I would suggest using more than two together. Also keep in mind that using a filter that is smaller than the filter thread of a lens can cause vignetting. So you wouldnt want to use a filter that is too much smaller than your lens.

Q: 9. what is the thread pitch?

A: Heliopan does not list the pitch on the Heliopan 42-39mm Step-Down Ring (#316). But standard for that size is 0.75mm thread pitch.

Q: 10. Does this help with vignetting when using a smaller filter?

A: No

[Brass] This is my first experience using a Heliopan product. All of my lens filters are B+W but they didn't make a step-down ring in the size I needed. I could have purchased a much less expensive ring but the Heliopan was the only one I saw with the same quality of the B+W. It is made of brass and very well constructed. I would recommend it to others.

[48 mm to 46 mm] I bought this to be able to adapt the Nikon ES-1 Slide adapter to my lens. The adapter is very well made. Solid. It does not feel cheap and I think it's a good value for the money. Five stars!

[Side] This allows me to use all my filters with my new lens. I chose brass because it will not distort and always is easy to remove.

[Side] I wanted a step down ring to use with a Nikon 24-70mm lens (82mm) to allow the use of my existing 77mm Lee Filter adaptor. After reading many reviews of the rings available, I decided it would be best to spend more to get a stronger brass ring rather than the less expensive aluminum rings. I have an assortment of smaller aluminum rings and these to tend to stick sometimes and can be hard to remove and the aluminum threads are easily damaged and cross threading can be a problem, if one is not very careful with these. I have not actually had an occasion to use the brass ring, yet; but I have put it onto the 24-70 lens to see how it feels. It is easy to thread onto and off of the lens and feels very solid.

[48 mm to 46 mm] I recently purchased a Zeiss 1:1.4/50 for my EOS 7D and thought that my Raynox DCR-1850Pro Teleconverter Lens 1.85x which I used with my Dimage camera, might be adapted to this lens. I installed this step-down ring between the two and now enjoy a 100mm+/- lens along with my great Zeiss 50mm. I store the two attached and separate as needed. The high quality of this ring makes this possible; shows little wear after much use. I am thouroughly satisfied with this ring and highly reccomend it. ( Watch for the green light,Luke, a manual focus lens, it is!)

[Side] Since using Heliopan I've never had to struggle with adapting filters for different lenses.

[48 mm to 46 mm] If your concerned about anti-binding or absolute strength (like using it to attach lens modifiers, not just light filters), this is the best of the best. The premium aluminum rings are great too, this just goes the extra mile, but the cost premium can hurt a bit.

[Side] It allows you to use the filters for the other e mount lens (49mm) on the full frame (67mm) lens. Their cropped but it works. Especially if it's a specialized filter that you spent a lot of money on.
