The Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod is a 4-section support that replaces the 055CXPRO4 tripod. It has a load capacity of 44 lb and extends from 3.5" to 67". Its carbon fiber legs are secured by the Quick Power Locks. These updated flip locks increase the tripod's rigidity by 50% compared to its predecessor.

A redesigned center column has a "one finger" operation, and includes an Easy Link 3/8"-16 attachment for attaching accessories such as an LED light or a reflector via a compatible arm. The center column can be positioned horizontally, allowing for low-angle and macro photography. The upper disc where a tripod head is mounted has been redesigned as well, and now has a bull's eye bubble level that rotates 360° so you can locate it where you can see it. This allows you to level your camera on both the horizontal and vertical planes.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the Manfrotto Nitrotech N8 video head work on this tripod?

A: Im currenting using that head on these legs, works great!

Q: 2. Despite having an extra segment per leg, the MT055CXPRO4 has the same max height & support weight as the MT055CXPRO3. Is one better or more desirable than the other? What difference does an extra segment make, if it doesn't extend further? Is it just extra moving parts (and potential points for mechanical failure), or is there a benefit?

A: The addition of the extra segment allows the tripod to fold down smaller. 21.3 vs 24.8

Q: 3. I'm going to buy one mor tripod.I have the opportunity to purchase manfrotto 055cxpro3 or manfrotto mt055cxpro3.What are the benefits of the newer tripod (manfrotto mt055cxpro3)?Thanks in advanceGershon

A: I purchased the MT055CXPRO4 because of the Height that it goes to. I am using it for Hunting with my bigger Bino's on it and sometimes you have to stand up to see over Bushes or through Trees. The Carbon Fiber is a little bit Lighter to pack in and out then the steel Manfroto I used to carry. That is why I bought it. Hope this helps in your decision. Tim

Q: 4. is the center column reversible?

A: The column on the Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod is not designed to come out. It is designed to be positioned horizontally.

Q: 5. is it possible to remove the center column but still have a tripod head?Im hoping there is some sort of attachment i can add, in order to do this.

A: It is easy to remove but you need the column to hold your head. The only time the column needs to be moved is if you widen the stance, then I pull the column and replace it perpendicular instead of horizontally. I have nearly 20 years of rough usage of mine. This allows an extremely low macro stance. The versatility of this tripods allows your camera a solid footing in the most difficult terrain.

Q: 6. Does this specific tripod have a tilting column to offset the camera from the center of the tripod???

A: The center column of this tripod can be set at a 90 degree angle.

Q: 7. After the leg spread angle is set, if I push on a leg towards the center will it move? Are the legs truly locked in place?

A: You can push the legs inward on the Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod even with them being 'locked' in place.

Q: 8. Is the folded length of 25.3 with or without the head attached?

A: That head is with the head attached. If you look at the listing for the tripod alone, you will see a folded length of 21.3 (54 cm).

Q: 9. I need a good stable, travel tripod for wild life photog. I currently have a Nikon D800e with Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens and Manfrotto/Bogen 3421 gimbal. I am also 5'7 and cannot bend forward for any length of time so tripod needs to be tall enough with very little center column extension. I typically shoot beyond 500mm on my lens. Will this tripod excel for me or is there another model? Thank you.

A: I purchased this tripod at the end of February and have been totally happy with the decision. It is a very stable tripod. I have used it with my Canon 70-200L lens and it has worked very well. I am not familiar with the gimble support you mentioned but I think the tripod would work well for you. When spreading the legs out it takes a little practice to get the hang of it. I have found that you need to back off the legs slightly to get the leg latches to release in order to spread the legs to the next position. If you purchase the four section leg model you should have more than enough height without extending the center column. The tripod is very light and easy to carry in the field. With your big lenses I might suggest that you hang your camera bag from the built in hanger for additional stability although I have not found this to be a problem. The tripod is very stable by itself. As I also own one of Manfrotto's professional studio tripods (which is quite heavy) I have found this to be an exceptional tripod for the field and carrying to various sites. You will not be disappointed with this tripod. Construction is rugged and will hold up well in the field. I hope this helps you.Jim

Q: 10. Can you transform it to monopad?

A: Any tripod can be used as a monopod by simply shortening two of the three legs.

[5.2 lb] Excellent stability and ease of use. I had an older aluminum 055 with the screw type leg locks and the flips locks are a huge time saver. I went with the 4 section since I travel often and this is more compact than the 3 section. The level indicator rotates which comes in handy when setting up for pano shots. I use a 410 gear head combined with this tripod works well for me. Very stable and precise for architecture. This is my forth tripod and hopefully my last for many years. My main reasons for purchasing was the 4 section and flip locks. The carbon fiber was just on impulse but glad I did - nice to save some weight on those hikes. When converting the center column from vertical to horizontal there is a red plastic piece that rises with the column and it seems a bit flimsy and out of place for the rest of the tripod. Besides that every component is very well made in my opinion.

[5.2 lb] I am very happy with my Manfrotto tripod, extremely stable, excellent ball head with quick release connector plate, bubble levels for the tripod as well as for the camera are critical for good landscape sunset sunrise photos, very well made, the carbon fiber keeps the weight down on this beefy tripod, the horizontal capability of the center post allows me to get the camera into tough position for shooting macro from many points of view, excellent price and value. Very pleased with this purchase.

[5.2 lb] Purchased this tripod to replace my old 055CXPRO3 which was a tripod that I loved but it didn't quite fit in my roll on luggage. The CXPRO4 is shorter than the PRO3 when fully collapsed and raises up higher as well. Very sturdy, very light. I love it!
