A: This Kaiser 40mm Push-On Lens Cap is not compatible with the Rollei 35S.

Q: 4. Will this work well with the 42mm lens shade for a Pentax 8x42 7.5 monocular?

A: Be sure that the outside diameter of the shade is 42mm. A typical 42mm filter is larger than 42mm at the outside diameter. I have B&W filters, and they are 2mm larger than the thread size. So if I need a cap for a 50mm filter, the cap has to be 52mm. I would recommend you measure the shade to be absolutely sure.

Q: 5. does the 81.5 mm fit an 82mm step up? why 81.5mm?

A: I'd measure the outside diameter of the the step up with something accurate like vernier calipers or a micrometer. I purchased the 90mm push on Cap to fit a Schneider centre ND filter which I measured to be exactly 90mm outside diameter and the cap was a fairly tight fit.

A: They are plastic, not metal or rubber.

A: This cap is about 5.6 mm deep on the inside edge.

A: Not sure. The 50mm is the inside diameter, so measure the outside of your lense if it is 50mm you are good to go.

[40 mm] The PROs: They are accurate in size claims. They keep their shape. They perform well (sty on lens). They are not expensive. The CONs: They are sometimes unavailable and must be back ordered. I use these caps for scopes that don't come with or offer caps for the lenses. I measure the size of the lens diameter and order the appropriate size. They work, perform, and store when not in use perfectly. I highly recommend these push on caps. 5

[Front] I bought this to replace the cap from my Summicron 50mm (built in hood) as the use of a filter (B+W) leaves the original call probe to falling off (it is excessively wide and overhangs the filter). This fit snugly protecting my M3's cloth shutter from having holes burnt through 5

[40 mm] I have a vintage Nikon 500mm mirror lens that was missing the original cap; it's a weird size, 88mm; gave this a try. With a layer of fabric tape on the inside rim or the cap it fits fine. 5

[0.015 lb] Works well so far. If you have a tight fitting case it can get caught and get pulled off, but that's true of any push-on cap. Seems a bit expensive, but it was the only option they had. 5

[40 mm] This cap is a perfect fit on a LEE 82mm WA adapter ring. I keep the adapter ring attached to my Zeiss Distagon T* 3,5/18 ZF.2 lens for use with a LEE wide angle lens hood. 5
