I would take a WR lens on days I thought it might rain, or simply be prepared to put the camera away if i was using a lens like the 35mm DAL. I have never had good luck taking photos in the rain anyway. I've done it and some of them are worth saving, but none were great. If I needed to be out on a rainy day I'd probably use my 18-135WR or perhaps the 18-55WR. As to the SP coating, I don't think that has anything to do with rain resistance. Lawrence
