    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are replacement parts available for this boom arm? Mine fell when it was too windy onto a bridge's railing and the screw holding the boom arm to the 5/8" stud was stripped.

A: You will have to contact Impact for replacement parts; Distributed By - Gradus Group LLCTel: (212) 594-2353 Website http://www.impactstudiolighting.com/ Email cs@gradusgroup.com

Q: 2. Does the baby pin receiver fit into a junior receiver on a combo stand? It looks like it should but isn’t mentioned in the specs.

A: Yes the outer portion of the receiver on this boom will fit a junior receiver.

Q: 3. Can or how can I attach a DSLR on this?

A: Not directly. You'll need some kind of adapter from the 5/8 fitting to perhaps some kind of quick release adapter like Arca-swiss. Talk to the folks at Hejnar Photo they make a lot of fit-this-to-that type of adapters.

Q: 4. Does the 86 extension refer to the entire boom length, or just that part extending from the pivot point?

A: Its the entire length of the boom (Including the foam grip at the end), not just the part that extends from the pivot point.

Q: 5. how much weight will this item hold ?

A: Not sure what the limits are but I have a 8lbs light and 55 inch octabox and it holds well at 45degrees extended 2/3 out and 1/3 on the counterweight (2 sandbags). YMMV.I''m more wary of the vertical light stand stud that this sits on.

Q: 6. What is the smallest possible length this boom arm can be broken down into, including is pieces if necessary?

A: The Boom Arms minimum length is 48 from the post to the counter weight hook at the rear. This is a very heavy unit and I would recommend that it be supported by a very sturdy stand.

Q: 7. How much weight can this boom arm support with some extension and inclination? I would like to lift an Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 1000 light and a light modifier above my subject's head and would like to know if this boom arm can support the light whilst inclined and extended. Thanks!

A: If you ad a weight to the back of the boom arm, it should hold the light.

Q: 8. Are there accessory clamps available that would hold a collapsible backdrop?

    A: You can use A clamps https://bhpho.to/305UwHN.

Q: 9. Does it come with just the boom arm or does it also include the pivot clamp as well?

    A: Yes it does

Q: 10. How much weight can this hold?

A: The load capacity at the maximum extension is 8 lbs.

[5/8" Stud] I bought this to do some product photography and also to do some different lighting setups. It works great. I attached one of my speed lites 600ex-rt and it was excellent. I can move it around and point the light even straight down at the floor to get some different shots. The clamp locks right into the ridges and holds position well.
I hope this helps with your decision.

[49 x 6.5 x 5.5"] Great boom. Sturdy. It's heavy, but that's ok because it's not going to break easy. I use these on my 18 full moon lights.

[5/8" Stud] Crucial piece of hardware for lighting a studio. This one is stout and will not let you down.

[49 x 6.5 x 5.5"] Have been using this arm with a Falconeyes flexible Softbox and it works great. Allows for a more downward angle than the stock attachment on the softbox. Build quality is impressive and heavy. You will definitely need a fairly robust light stand. I use the power brick/control box of the Falconeyes as the counterweight on the stand and it works well. Highly recommend.

[49 x 6.5 x 5.5"] Excellent product. Very well made and easy to use. Actually using this with a DSLR camera on a reasonably heavy stand, to photograph artwork from above. Have outfitted it with female stud to 1/4-20 tripod mount + tripod head.

When using with CFL bulbs in softboxes, we do need to wait a few seconds for things to settle down before remotely releasing the shutter, but that was expected going in. This was really intended as a light boom, but it's very good for our purposes.

We anticipate going to strobe lights before long, but either way, I like this boom. Great value.

[Steel] Pretty invaluable for wider frames and tighter spaces. There are some things about the build that I suspect might prove less than reliable (days are numbered for that foam handle on the counterweight side), but otherwise, it's easily worth the money and built well to boot.

[2] Working as gaffer, I often need to boom out lights overhead to be able to get wide shots. I had a shoot where I needed to boom an Aputure 120dII with lantern attachment over a kitchen table and this thing worked great. I paired it with a Kupo Master Combo Stand and a number of sandbags and it got the job done. If needing to boom something really far away this won't cut it, you'll need to a Menace Arm, but for small to medium size spaces where you need wide shots and lights out of frame, definitely pick this up. All connections are sturdy too, well built steel, get it.

[49 x 6.5 x 5.5"] We've operated a long time without a boom arm, and while we've made it work, being able to boom a light across a table or over a packed set can really make life a lot easier. This arm seems perfectly well built and fully durable for owner/operator set work. I think if there's anything that probably won't last it will be the foam towards the counterweight side of the boom. but it will still be usable and is entirely acceptable given the entirely reasonable price.
