    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. how much weight will this item hold ?

A: Not sure what the limits are but I have a 8lbs light and 55 inch octabox and it holds well at 45degrees extended 2/3 out and 1/3 on the counterweight (2 sandbags). YMMV.I''m more wary of the vertical light stand stud that this sits on.

Q: 2. does this stand up straight as well?

A: Yes, the Impact 86" Boom Arm is able to be pointed straight up.

Q: 3. Is the bottom connection hole 5/8 or 3/8? To connect it to another stand underneath

A: The boom has a 5/8" receiver and is an ideal match for heavy duty wheeled stands like Impact's LSP-SW10 9.5' Steel Roller.

Q: 4. how long is it exactly when collapsed?

A: It is 46" when collapsed.

Q: 5. Can this be mounted 90 deg vertically to extend the height of a C-stand etc? If so, will it be stable at full extension?

A: It will be slightly off axis, but it can be used vertically. The stability will depend on the stand it is used on.

    Q: 6. Does this fit a Bogen 3090 stand?

A: The following unit will adapt to anything that features a 5/8 opening

Q: 7. Suggested use shows this being used at only a short distance. When using at longer distances, would this be better used in a combo stand? Can you recommend one?

A: A combo stand such as the Matthews Hollywood Combo Double Riser Stand (Silver, 11.3'), BH # MALSCHWD would work well with this boom at longer distances. https://bhpho.to/3agUns6

Q: 8. Is it possible to remove the rotating stand mount from the boom arm?

A: The impact base boom does allow a end-user to remove the mount to be fine tune but we do not suggest doing so.

Q: 9. How is this arm compared to the GVM360 boom arm?

A: The GVM360 offers a better locking system. The the impact unit and includes stand with purchase.

    Q: 10. Can I use this boom to clamp a Westcott 9 x10' polyester backdrop ?

A: It would not cover the full length of the background.

[Steel] Working as gaffer, I often need to boom out lights overhead to be able to get wide shots. I had a shoot where I needed to boom an Aputure 120dII with lantern attachment over a kitchen table and this thing worked great. I paired it with a Kupo Master Combo Stand and a number of sandbags and it got the job done. If needing to boom something really far away this won't cut it, you'll need to a Menace Arm, but for small to medium size spaces where you need wide shots and lights out of frame, definitely pick this up. All connections are sturdy too, well built steel, get it.

[Steel] Have been using this arm with a Falconeyes flexible Softbox and it works great. Allows for a more downward angle than the stock attachment on the softbox. Build quality is impressive and heavy. You will definitely need a fairly robust light stand. I use the power brick/control box of the Falconeyes as the counterweight on the stand and it works well. Highly recommend.

[5/8" Stud] Received the Boom Arm and was pleased with its quality of build. It has worked very well with the umbrella and light set-up we use. We are favorably impressed.

[10 lb] We've operated a long time without a boom arm, and while we've made it work, being able to boom a light across a table or over a packed set can really make life a lot easier. This arm seems perfectly well built and fully durable for owner/operator set work. I think if there's anything that probably won't last it will be the foam towards the counterweight side of the boom. but it will still be usable and is entirely acceptable given the entirely reasonable price.

[2] Great boom. Sturdy. It's heavy, but that's ok because it's not going to break easy. I use these on my 18 full moon lights.

[49 x 7 x 6"] Excellent product. Very well made and easy to use. Actually using this with a DSLR camera on a reasonably heavy stand, to photograph artwork from above. Have outfitted it with female stud to 1/4-20 tripod mount + tripod head.

When using with CFL bulbs in softboxes, we do need to wait a few seconds for things to settle down before remotely releasing the shutter, but that was expected going in. This was really intended as a light boom, but it's very good for our purposes.

We anticipate going to strobe lights before long, but either way, I like this boom. Great value.
