Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi what is the outer diameter of this Step-up Ring?Actually I am looking for a Push-on lens cap...Any brand that you recommend, which fits?Thank you

A: Rather than a push-on cap, you will be better off using a Hood Hat type of covering, such as those seen at the following link: http://bhpho.to/1w9ZAZT

Q: 2. When using this adapter, with a 77mm nd filter on a 58mm cap size lens, will it have any downsides? Or is it gonna look perfect just like a 58mm filter?

A: When using the B+W 58-77mm Step-Up Ring, photos should look fine using the 58mm cap size, unless one is using a fisheye wide angle lens.

Q: 3. I'm trying to mount 86mm coarse filters on a P6 45mm Hartblei Super Rotator. Is the 86mm side coarse threaded?

A: Unfortunately, the 86mm side is not shown as coarse threaded by the manufacturer.

Q: 4. Hi ... What is the difference between the Heliopan #143 62/77mm Step-Up Ring, and the Heliopan #144 62/77mm Step-Up Ring??? The descriptions do not say ... other than price, of course. ...Robert G.

A: The Heliopan ring, # 700-144 is a special model that can accept both 77mm threaded filters, as well as Series 8.5 type filters. Our product link for this model on our website is slowly being changed to reflect the new information we received about it since receiving your inquiry.

Q: 5. Greetings! Is this the .5 fine thread or the standard .75 thread? I wish to use on a Polaroid 180 and don't want to trash the threads. Thanks!

A: The Heliopan 46-49mm Step-Up Ring uses standard threads, and are excellent quality step-up rings with brass construction.

Q: 6. I need to mount a 62mm filter on a 72mm lens, do I need a step up ring or a step down ring?

A: You would need a 62mm to 72mm step down ring.

Q: 7. Is some vignetting expected when using this step up ring at wider apertures? Can vignetting be reduced by stopping down?

A: One should not expect vignetting when using the Heliopan 49-62mm Step-Up Ring (#175). The 62mm filter will be significantly wider than the 49mm lens threading and should not get into the image at all.

Q: 8. Would this ring permit the use of 55mm threaded filters on a lens with a Series VII filter-thread? The Leica R 90mm f2 (old version, not the later version) is the lens I have in mind.

A: No, that adapter is for lenses that have a 54mm thread. Series 7 is not 54. If you have a retaining ring, most of those are 54 mm it might work. But the adapter alone will not work. This is a retaining ring, General Brand Series 7 Retaining Ring BH #GBRRS7 https://bhpho.to/3bJHVPU

Q: 9. Does this fit onto Leica Elmarit-R lens with series VII filter thread?

A: Apparently there are two versions of this lens. Series VII retaining ring should be 54mm so this step ring should get you to a 55mm filter size.

Q: 10. Will the 54mm end fit a lens with series VII (Series 7) threads? I believe they are 54.3mm (2 1/8 inches).

A: unfortunately this will not.

[Brass] This step up ring is better constructed than most, the tolerance are spot on.

[Brass] Perfectly fit for Leica E46 lens to step up to 49mm for Graduated ND filters. In my case, I bought also E39 to 49mm so that I can use the same set of filters.

[46 mm to 60 mm] Quality and function wise I give it a 5/5. It went on my Canon 50mm f/1.8 II easily and my 72mm filter when on flawlessly as well. However, before you buy this, I advise looking at the price of the filter first, which I foolishly did not do. I realized that the filter was just as expensive as this step-up ring. Also, if you have a small focus ring near the end of the lens near where the filter goes, I would also be cautious about this. The Canon 50mm f/1.8 II I use this on has a thing focus ring, so it is difficult for me to focus when I want to do so manually, as the larger ring gets in the way. Otherwise, this works very well.

[46 mm to 60 mm] There are not many heavy duty 52-77mm step rings out there, most are plastic or aluminum. This is brass and is seriously sturdy. You could probably use is as an improvised gardening trowel and it would be none the worse for wear. On the downside, it's heavier than any other step ring you've ever seen. I use it on a Fuji 240mm view camera lens. But by the time you pack everything needed for a view camera, the additional weight is not notable and you have a step ring that is not going to bind to a filter, short of catastrophic destruction. The other downside is that it's so good that it's remarkably expensive, but if you plan on using it for decades, it's not really that expensive. I have no doubt that it will outlast me! I have heard that brass transmits shock instead of deforming like aluminum or plastic. At the risk of cursing myself, I will say that in nearly 40 years of photography I've never dropped a lens. :-) But if you're the kind of person who drops lenses, well, you may want a bit more of an airbag. Personally, I think this unit is worth the bucks and I'm more concerned about a filter binding than I am about dropping a lens and in that regard, the Heliopan is a winner.

[0.1 lb] Step up 20mm pancake lens to fit light ring and mattebox. It's brass, so it should never bind. This thing is pricey, but at the time that I ordered it, no other manufacturer offered this product.I like this product...

[0.1 lb] B&H Photo is one of the few places that you can readily get these specialty products. I am using the 82mm B+W (1A) pro filter on a Canon 24mm TSE II lens. Attached to the filter is the Heliopan 82-95 step-up ring (#112). There is NO vignetting at any aperture with this combo. The front lens cap, i.e., the Hasselblad 95mm, works perfectly. All of these items are of the highest quality and compliment the new TSE Canon lens, which is the sharpest Canon lens that I own.
