Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you mount the camera to this baseplate using the center screws, shifting the camera back an inch or so, similar to the zacuto baseplate?

A: Just be aware that you will likely go through the adjustment game forever if using the shoulder mount for anything off of sticks. I know they sell an accessory wedge to place under the rear of the camera. Might be worth looking into if you are for sure going to change the screw placement.

Q: 2. Need small screw for shape camera plate

Q: 3. What is the weight of the Shape quick release plate?

A: Hi Chris thank you for contacting us. The weight of the SHAPE quick release plate is 0,85 lb. Best regards

Q: 4. I was at the 2015 NAB Show, and I'm almost certain I saw one of these with a Canon C100 Mark II mounted on it. Is that possible? Is there an additional plate needed for that? I don't remember seeing one, but just wanted to make sure before I pursued purchasing one of these.

A: The SHAPE Sony FS7 Bundle Rig with Follow Focus is specifically for the FS7. If you mounted a C100 Mark II on it, it would be missing a right handle arm. See below for a suggested SHAPE rig for the C Series. You might have seen this rig for the C300. It is made by Zacuto. It is a very nicely tricked out rig that will also work with the C100.

Q: 5. What is the weight of the plate without rods?

A: The SHAPE Sony FS7 Lightweight Plate only is - 1.10 lbs

Q: 6. Is there any chance this will fit the Sony FS5?

A: The SHAPE Top Plate for Sony FX6 does not fit the FS5. You can consider this SHAPE product for your camcorder: the SHAPE FS5TPKIT Two-Part Top Plate Kit for Sony PXW-FS5 and PXW-FS5M2 (B&H #SHFS5TPKIT).

Q: 7. Does this v-lock attach to a Sony VTC plate?

A: Hi AndrewThank you for your question! Indeed as Robert says, you can click in the front part in a VCT plate because this FS7 baseplate has the appropriate Delta plate to match the VCT.We hope this helps and we thank you for your interest in our products. The SHAPE team

Q: 8. I already have a Shape for my C300, I dont want to have to but a whole knew one for my FS7. Does this fit right onto the C300 Shape Shoulder mount?

A: This system does have 15mm rod support. If you have a shoulder rig that has 15mm rods you should be able to use this with the system.

Q: 9. I was at the 2015 NAB Show, and I'm almost certain I saw one of these with a Canon C100 Mark II mounted on it. Is that possible? Is there an additional plate needed for that? I don't remember seeing one, but just wanted to make sure before I pursued purchasing one of these.

A: I'm only familiar with it in the fs7.

Q: 10. Is there a way to seal the serial port that's on top of the camera? For the Zoom and Record button control? I'm worried about possible water or dust getting in there if i were to use this.

A: My FS7II came with a cover plate that was held in place by 2 small screws. I had to remove this cover before I could install the the stock handle (with zoom/record controls and the 15mm rod for attaching the viewfinder and mic holder), so putting the plate back should keep out the dust.

[1.5 lb] Works great. Unlike what is described in an earlier review, the adapter automatically switch from battery to external power when a 12V power source is plugged into the 4-pin XLR. If the 4-pin XLR is disconnected, then the camera reverts automatically to battery power. There is no power interruption at all.

[Sony PXW-FS7] I use it to counterbalance the camera on my shoulder.  The cable is long enough to keep from interfering with my set up. Had to swap the V-Mount for a Gold mount plate, but the switch was no problem. Connected my wireless transmitter on the other side of the v-mount plate.

[1.5 lb] Love this baseplate - great way to trim the fat from a rig
and keep things light. Definitely still feels like it'll take a beating.

[Sony PXW-FS7] Bought this after reading a few reviews about the Anton Bauer one I was going to get because people had problems with the Anton. This works great, plugged it in and bolted it on. I use my Anton Bauer Dionic batteries on it which helps with rear weight on the FS7. The Sony rear attachment was too expensive for me at the time so this works nice if you want to use gold mount batteries.

[Sony PXW-FS7] I am a DP and own a rental house. I love that you can set the camera down and it stands up right. I purchased the v mount plate and you can now go straight from hh to tripod. Everything is quickly adjustable on this rig. I really like it. Its a great rig. The only con I have is that SHAPE has made a great product but its build quality is still not as good as Zuccuto. But still very good. The handle extension is great as well. You can finally adjust it without a screwdriver. Sony should have done better than that.

[1.5 lb] This is required for mounting the clamp that comes with the Wooden Camera PL mount adapter for the Sony FS-7. It is expensive but allows for a sturdy lens mount without tying up or blocking camera rods.

[Sony PXW-FS7] As a film student, BFA Film - Cinematography - Purchasing the Sony FS-7 was a no brainer. The ergonomics of an ENG style cam? Icing on the cake! The ability to securely mount this little guy? Something to be desired. I'm 6'5 plus some change--the FS-7 was not made with my body size in mind. With the SHAPE baseplate, however, I can put this sucker in a perfectly balanced configuration and get the in your face camera movements and CUs I desired from this camera out of the box. I'm not sure how the other baseplates rank, but what had me sold was the modeling of the plate to the FS-7's more unique footprint. The result: it looks beautiful, feels sturdy as a rock and allows for numerous configurations to fit any shooting style! Only issue seems to be the mounting of non Sony-style tripod mounts. Can't figure out how to attach it directly to a standard arca or manfrotto QR :/
