Ingest HDMI, YUV, S-Video, and NTSC/PAL sources to your Mac, PC, or Linux computer and save them in compressed or uncompressed formats with the included Media Express software, bypassing any unnecessary levels of compression. Pull up real-time previews on high resolution displays for more accurate color grading and client review. Create high frame rate walk-throughs of your gameplay in full 10-bit quality YUV video and deep color. Connect your cameras for video conferencing, presentations, and live streaming of live events, webcasts, seminars, presentations, concerts, and more. A breakout cable is included providing RCA video and audio inputs and outputs as well as SPDIF audio output, allowing you to work with equipment from old VHS decks to HDTV HDMI displays.

Intensity Pro 4K is also directly compatible with all of the most popular editing, design, streaming, audio, and video applications available for Mac and PC. This means you can capture directly to your software in formats such as ProRes, DNxHD, and QuickTime and avoid extra steps and possible extra compression. Work seamlessly with DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro X, Media Composer, Premiere Pro, Fusion, After Effects, Photoshop, ProTools, Resolume, Nuendo, Flash Media Live Encoder, ProCaster, and more.

Intensity Pro 4K is a 4-lane PCIe card compatible with 4, 8, and 16 lane PCIe slots. The HDMI video connections are switchable between SD, HD, and Ultra HD, and Component analog video connections are switchable between SD and HD. The HDMI connections feature HDMI standard 1.4b, which supports deep color and automatically configures to connected displays. (HDMI input is unable to capture from copy protected HDMI sources, so always confirm copyright ownership before capture or distribution of content.)

The included Blackmagic Media Express software allows you to effectively capture, organize, and manage all of your media.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there any 4K-capable recording software that supports the Intensity Pro 4K directly?

A: It comes with software that should capture 4K. I haven't tested this because I don't have a 4k source.

Q: 2. Any chance this device can be hooked up to a pc laptop with thunderbolt 3? An adapter possibly? Thx in advance.

A: Regarding using the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro 4K with an external PCIe enclosure, Blackmagic does not test their hardware compatibility for such devices but they do say some may work. There are no recommendations available at this time.

Q: 3. Does it come with Davinci Resolve studio?

A: The Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro 4K does not come with the full studio version of Da Vinci Resolve.

Q: 4. Apparently most of the reviews here on B&H for the intensity pro 4k have been negative. Why have they been removed? Seems like more transparency would help customer choice.

A: you were right , when i purchased this card , it was desapointment , it has a very loud sound . but blackmagic already fix that problem with the new firware . now works perfect to me

Q: 5. I know a lot of people will probably think this is going backwards, but if, for just plain nostalgic reasons, you wanted to not only capture from analog SD sources like VHS and output back to VHS, could you do that with this card?

A: The Intensity Pro 4K from Blackmagic Design comes with a breakout cable allowing for analog connections such as RCA and S-video, which most VHS players output as well. The Intensity Pro has an HDMI port for outputting to other sources, so an HDMI to S-video converter would be needed if the VHS player does not have HDMI as an input.

Q: 6. works with premier cs6 or cc?

A: I have an Intensity Pro capture card, but it does Not show up in Premiere 5. I have to capture the video from Desktop Video, then the file size is huge! Then I import the file into Premiere and then Export it to the Microsoft AVI Format - which cuts down the file size of a 2-hour video from 312 GB to 26 GB. This works, but it is a pain to have to use 2 different programs, where I cannot Capture it directly into Adobe Premiere 5 (it only has DV Or HDV, it does Not have BlackMagic in the Capture Format list).

Q: 7. Will this card fit on a small factor pc ?

A: don't know, i have in a MacPro 2012

Q: 8. Anyone using this card with premiere pro 2020? Any glitches with the latest BMD update? Thx 4 ur time

A: From the manufacturer. "Anytime a new version of an NLE is introduced there can be glitches, but as far as I know there are no issues to report. The Intensity Pro 4K should work well with any NLE or playback software."

Q: 9. Which HDMI port is in? Or out? Thx

A: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/api/print/to-pdf/products/intensitypro4k/techspecs/W-INT-05?filename=intensity-pro-4k-techspecs.pdf Please take a look at the link I have provided. See page # 5. The diagram. The HDMI output is in the center closer to the breakout cable.

Q: 10. Blackmagic Design Intensity pro 4k . I have a question about that card. I have a DVD player and recorder Panasonic DMR-EX 77 which has an HDMI output and when I connect it to the card with an HDMI cable it does not give a picture. I tried the output on the TV and it gives me a picture. Does anyone know what could be. The input on the card is tested with a Sonj 4K camera and gives an image.???

A: I would check your configuration settings on your software. I’ve found that this is usually the problem.

[0.75 lb] The fact that you can now purchase a capture playout card that is under $ and can handle 4K (UHD) footage is astounding. I've only used it a couple times since I got it, but for ingesting and playing out 1080P footage, it works great.I have it installed on my MacPro 2,1 (from 2007) and it works great. Amazingly, all this card needs is a 4x PCI Lane.

[0.75 lb] I use two of these, one connected to an iMac Pro and the other to a MacBook Pro with the card inside of a Sonnet Echo Express SE III Thunderbolt 3 housing, so I can monitor the video out to an external 65 LG OLED TV that has been calibrated. Works like a charm.

[Device: 17 W] Used it with a Sonnet Echo Express with my Origin Gaming Win 10 laptop.  Until I realized that this existed, I wished my camera could tape in 4K and live stream in 720p. Now I can!

[PCIe 4.0 x4] Reading the other reviews it seems many have issues getting this to work. I had ZERO issues... Go to the blackmagic website and get the latest version of the software and install it. power off, install card, power on... Done. Run the configuration app to change your settings to match your input/output sources and then launch the DesktopVideo app to start capturing.

I used this to capture some old VHS footage without a timebase corrector, so as I expected, really unstable footage was not able to be captured but it was a small percentage. Keep this in mind if you are looking to capture old VHS/8mm. As other reviews stated, the file sizes are huge when capturing, but with contemporary large drives this is not really an issue. Once you compress down the files, a 40GB Vhs capture can be H264 compressed down to about a 700MB Mp4.

I also edit with Premiere Pro and use the HDMI out to a standard LED TV to preview what my output will look like on standard display.
Quality is good and had no issues.

Overall I think the Intensity Pro 4K performs as advertised. Simple install, Ease of use and great quality captures makes this a great purchase.
