Designed for use on the water or in extreme environments, Newcon Optik 20x80 AN M22 Binoculars with Reticlefeature an M22 crosshair reticle that helps users determine the range to objects and to approximate a subject's size. This powerful optic features large 80mm objectives and fully multicoated optics that maximize light transmission while minimizing light loss. The combination of optics and coatings produce bright and clear images even at low light. To help minimize the disorientation often associated with using high-magnification optics on rolling seas, the AN M22s have a wide 66° apparent angle of view. Each ocular is individually focused to achieve the sharpest possible images.

Complementing their optical performance is a housing that is designed to hold up to daily use in rugged environments. Their chassis is made of a light and durable magnesium alloy with a UV-resistant rubber armoring that provides a slip-resistant grip. The UV resistance ensures that the armor won't crack or fade over time. The optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to provide fogproof performance even with extreme temperature swings, and the binoculars are submersible to 20' for up to 30 minutes. Their broad -40 to 176°F operating temperature range allows them to function properly in the most inhospitable climates. Weighing over 5.5 lb means that visible hand-shake and user-fatigue can be concerns, especially for long observation sessions. It is for this reason that the center stabilizer bar has an integrated 1/4"-20 tripod adapter. Rounding out their usability is a long 16mm eye relief and fold-down rubber eyecups.

Q: 1. Does it take a battery?

A: In passive mode it does not require a battey. It is effective using ambiance light from sources like the moon or starlight. The IR illuminator uses a battery and can enhance vision in total darness. The only negitive: The length of time for viewing with each squeeze is less than advertized.

Q: 2. How much does it weight?

A: This item weighs 5.4 lb / 2.45 kg.

Q: 3. I've owned mine for about ten years hasn't been used in some time. when I press the generator I see a couple of small light flashes and that is all. It is a newcon optic M 2.0x 1st generation night vision monocular. does anyone know what might be wrong?

A: Might be defective or you might have to replace a part in the device. I would recommend contacting Newcon directly with this inquiry to see if your device needs to be sent in to be serviced. Q: 4. diopter adjustment?

A: Of course. It has center level adjustment of focus, an as usual the left side permits diopter adjustment.

Q: 5. I bought one of these very heavy binos. Used it a couple or 3 times on my Manfrotto t-pod. They are so heavy that, on the 4th or 5th nite, they stripped the threads off of the socket & it hit the pavement. This knocked both tubes out of alignment! At least the only external damage - to one tube - was an extremely small ding & a scratch or 2. STW - does anyone know of repair shops that do realignments? I'm in the Boston, MA area.

A: Sorry to hear your binocular got damaged. Please contact our technical support team and a representative will be able to assist you in getting your SkyMaster 20x80 repaired. The best way to reach them is by submitting a ticket here: https://www.celestron.com/pages/technical-support

Q: 6. Do the oculars have threads so you can screw on filters?

A: No, this would not have threads so you can screw on filters.

Q: 7. Recommended tripod?

A: Celestron does recommend this tripod, Celestron TrailSeeker Tripod with Fluid Pan Head B&H # CETPTFP MFR # 82050

Q: 8. Can I see the rings of saturn and the bands on jupiter with 20x80?

A: Absolutely. A 20x power binocular will easily show the rings of Saturn and bands of Jupiter along with moons of Jupiter. These are excellent binoculars also for viewing many other objects in the night sky.

Q: 9. How is the range adjusted to maximum range?

A: The rangefinder is able to measure the distance from 10 to 4000 meters without any adjustments ( unless the Gating feature is ON). However, you may want to adjust the focus by rotating the eyepieces for the sharp image.

Q: 10. where are these made?

A: These Binocular's are made in Canada.

[16 mm] No batteries of any kind, works great, hard to find these now, if you ever (really) need it, you will be glad you have it.

[7.55 lb] My main use is at the rifle range. EASILY see .22lr holes at 100 yards. Its five easy stars. If the price was $250, then 4 stars. Excellent light gathering qualities, more light than what is seen with the naked eye at night, well made product. B&H was great with the packaging and delivery. Focus is just a bit fuzzy on the edges when the center is sharp, which does not detract at all when viewing. The tripod mount is a plus, although I didn't need it when resting my elbows on my knees.

[16 mm] You get what you pay for. The optics are outstanding. What I've learned from a previous Celestron purchase is...be gentle. Not built for handling. Keep it on a tripod and go easy. Beyond that, great for wildlife and night sky.

[16 mm] These cost just over $. For that money outstanding value. I have not tested them at night yet, but their resolution is fantastic on land based objects. While viewing is OK for short periods, invest in a tripod as well - it makes a big difference

[80 mm] very clear and crisp image.
fits very comfortable to my eyes even with a narrow ppd of 53 I get a single focal point.
only issue I had so far was the green/pinkish on some objects when viewed where in front of brighter object or sky

[4 mm] I bought these for star gazing and looking at the moon. The optics are very good. As others have already mentioned, definitely use a tripod. You can hold them steady for awhile, but not for very long.
