Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the inside diameter of the hole through the counterweight or equivalently the outside diameter of the boom arm this is designed to slide over ?

A: The K&M 21105 Counter Weight is designed for use on one-piece K&M boom arms with a 3/8" male thread or a tube diameter 0.6" (15mm). The Counter Weight itself is made of steel, has a height of 2.36" (60mm), a diameter of 1.97" (50mm), and weighs 28.2 oz. (0.8 kg).

Q: 2. What are the weight limitations that this will hold? If I'm using the C-stand riser what unit will this safely hold?

A: The manufacture does not list the support weight of the Kupo Pivoting Boom Arm Clamp. It is made to use a C stand column and most of those have a support weight of up to 22 lbs.

Q: 3. Is it possible to mount/suspend this arm from above?

A: The MBA38 is not intended to suspend from above. It does come with two types of mounts -- a clamp style mount and permanent flange mount. The stem for the arm inserts into the mount from the top. You could attach the clamp mount to a shelf and then position the arm so the mic comes downward, but the arm can not be mounted upside down.

Q: 4. I already have the Kupo C-stand with Turtle Base, the steel baby boom arm and the grip head. However, I like the idea of the Kupo Pivoting Boom Arm Clamp. I am having trouble, from the singular image, how it will actually works with the boom arm. It might seem like a silly question, but how does the pole fit into it? Or, is this accessory for another type of boom arm? Thanks for your time!!

A: The riser from a C stand is inserted in the tube that you see in the top of the image of this product. Then you twist the handle on top to tighten it in place. So, this product basically allows you to use a C stand riser as a super-sturdy boom arm.

Q: 5. I understand that the boom itself has 2 connectors (3/8" & 5/8"). However, what is the thread for mounting the clamp assembly itself? is the "short tube" that is pictured "faded out" at the bottom included? How does this mount onto anything?

A: The manufacturer listing for the K&M 21431 Mini Boom Arm only mentions "wing nut" clamping. The vertical pole pictured in this product image is not included with the boom arm. Given that this arm is meant for mounting onto mic stands, which standardly have a 5/8" thread, it can be presumed that the wing nut hardware included likely adapts to 5/8" threads in some manner.

Q: 6. is this compatible with the K&M 237B Table Clamp (Black) ? BH #KM237B • MFR #23700-500-55

A: Yes. These two items are compatible. Be aware of the microphone and shock-mount weight.

Q: 7. Could this mic arm works with the MXL BCD-1?

A: This studio boom arm would be compatible with the MXR BCD-1 Broadcast Dynamic Microphone.

Q: 8. How long is each arm?

A: About 19 inches.

Q: 9. Does this arm have adjustable retention? I'm planning to use it with a mic that only weighs about 1/4lb

A: The Samson MBA38 does not have adjustable retention.

Q: 10. Can I use two K&M 21105 counterweights on the same boom arm? Is there a hole at both ends to allow for this?

A: yes. I am using 2 on one arm. and there is another trick. if your arms are just a bit thick, you can pop out the plastic liner. I like these, it's hard to find good counterweights these days.

[Steel] This is a quality boom arm you can depend on. Other lower priced boom arms tend to droop over time with heavier mics like the RE20, Stam SA87, or Rode K2. This one won't. There is a competing On-Stage all steel boom arm that seems just as good for a lower price but the long term durability remains to be seen. This one I trust with my most expensive mics (Neumann and Brauner) for now.

[3/8"-16 Male] It's just the right length for my application. I have a tight working area for audio. I have the boom on a microphone stand behind the rack and it comes through from the back, so that the microphone is positioned directly over the mixer. Plenty of adjustments make it fit almost any application.

[Steel] This is a fantastic telescoping boom arm, suitable for all needs. Made in Germany, built to last. Replaces Onstage arms that just aren't anywhere near as nice. The nickel version of this K&M arm is ridiculously hard to find, though! So props to B&H for carrying this item. I use these short telescoping arms for my Atlas round base stands, and I was afraid that I would have to get black arms for my chrome stand. Atlas chrome and K&M nickel aren't exactly a match, but they match enough. Very happy with this product.

[Black] I use a mic stand with a boom for performing folk/country music with a band and solo. I have used many cheap stands in the past, and there are always issues with them. This stand and boom are very high quality and appear to be built to last. The boom is the perfect size and telescopes in to a very short length for transport. So far, I have not seen anything negative about this boom.

[34 x 3 x 2"] This is a rock solid boom made with the best German engineering and quality metal that we all come to expect. There is nothing negative about this product.

[3/8"-16 Male] As a studio owner I already own a lot of boom mic stands. Over time some of the booms go bad while the main shaft remains fine. Why replace the entire stand when you can just get a high quality boom replacement for less than half the price. Love it! These are really great. I was embarrassed a few times by my old mic stands drooping with a heavy condenser mic during a session. Now I don't have to worry that. This model boom arm holds firm. I'm happy and will be getting some more.

[Black] Industry standard. Who am I to argue with that?

[Black] This replaced a boom arm, made by another company, that failed when the threads stripped that secure the telescope arms. This one has considerably more thread surface and better knobs to turn so I expect it will last much longer. This is a very high quality product.

[Black] This is a very good boom arm that I have screwed on top of my light stand for podcasts. Super high quality with loads of good features.

Pros:
+ Pretty solid friction force. So good that I didn't even have to put a counter-weight on my stand.
+ Easy to use knobs for rotation and extension.
+ Clip for holding xlr cables
+ High-quality build

Cons
- Definitely a shorter arm

I've been using this for a few months at this point and it has not disappointed. I highly recommend this product.
