Q: 1. I'll be using this on my 85mm Tessar ZM which has 43mm filter thread. All of my filters (CPL and ND) have 39mm filter thread. Will my 85mm Lens vignette by using this item?

A: Anytime you use a step-down ring to use a smaller filter on the front of a lens with a larger filter diameter, you run the risk of obtaining some vignetting. Unfortunately, we have no way to test or guarantee which lens/focal length combinations. While vignetting would normally be more noticeable with wide angle lenses compared to telephoto lenses, I cannot guarantee you will not get vignetting. The best I can state would be to purchase the item and see if it works for your needs, and if it does not, you would have 30 days to return the item for an exchange or refund via our 30-Day Return Policy on this item.

Q: 2. Any observed drawbacks when used on a Sony G-Master 85mm (77mm) with a 72mm Zeiss Polarizer ?

A: There will always be issues using a smaller size filter than the filter threads of the lens. Most notably you are likely to get vignetting.

Q: 3. Are there any side effects (vignetting, i think is the term used) when using the smaller 77mm filters on the larger 82mm lens?

A: Hi again Steve, just received your reply. I did not consider going to a full frame camera. Throwing that into the mix especially with a 24-70 lens I think pretty much would cause vignetting. Going from an 82mm down to a 77mm equals about one-quarter inch that would equal a one-eighth inch reduction on each side of the filter's rim. I would expect you'll get a lot of vignetting. One consideration is that the Sensei 82-77 step-down ring is not really expensive and if it caused too much vignetting you're not out a lot of money for the ring itself. I buy that brand, as they work very well and at a low cost. I would say to start saving for 82mm filters; I think you'll fine more vignetting than you'll want to deal with, especially going to a full frame camera and that lens.

Q: 4. I am thinking about purchasing an 82 mm neutral density filter. Is a step-down ring what I need to allow me to use this filter on my 77 mm lenses? Looking at the 82-77 step-down ring (#408) by Heliopan. Thanks!

A: What you would need is a step up ring instead, since you are trying to fit an 82mm filter on a lens with a 77mm diameter. Please see the following link: http://bhpho.to/1n8QhUq

Q: 5. What is the overall diameter of this step-down adapter ring?

A: There are no published measurements of the diameter of the Heliopan Bay 1-30.5 Step-Down Ring (#305).

Q: 6. Can multiple step down rings be used at same time to achieve desired use. For example, assuming one ring in size needed does not exist, can I use a 77mm to 72mm + a 72mm to 68mm at same time?Tks.

A: You could use multiple step-down rings together if the combination you need isnt available. I would suggest using more than two together. Also keep in mind that using a filter that is smaller than the filter thread of a lens can cause vignetting. So you wouldnt want to use a filter that is too much smaller than your lens.

Q: 7. Any idea as to whether this SDR will fit an Opteka 0.3x fisheye 52mm onto a Canon GL2 with 58mm threads?

A: Yes,it will fit.

Q: 8. Does this cause heavy vignetting with prime lenses for example 50mm?

A: No, you should not get vignetting with a 50mm lens.

Q: 9. Does this come with the 72mm lens Attachment to 82mm filter threads?

A: No, please check out the Sensei 72-82mm Step-Up Ring. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/809647-REG/Sensei_sur7282_72_82mm_Step_Up_Ring.html

Q: 10. How can I use an 82mm filter on a 77mm lens?

A: A step down ring can be used but will cause vignette issues. We do not suggest doing so.

[42 mm to 39 mm] If your concerned about anti-binding or absolute strength (like using it to attach lens modifiers, not just light filters), this is the best of the best. The premium aluminum rings are great too, this just goes the extra mile, but the cost premium can hurt a bit.

[3 x 2.5 x 0.5"] This is my first experience using a Heliopan product. All of my lens filters are B+W but they didn't make a step-down ring in the size I needed. I could have purchased a much less expensive ring but the Heliopan was the only one I saw with the same quality of the B+W. It is made of brass and very well constructed. I would recommend it to others.

[0.3 lb] This allows me to use all my filters with my new lens. I chose brass because it will not distort and always is easy to remove.

[0.3 lb] I bought this to be able to adapt the Nikon ES-1 Slide adapter to my lens. The adapter is very well made. Solid. It does not feel cheap and I think it's a good value for the money. Five stars!

[0.3 lb] It allows you to use the filters for the other e mount lens (49mm) on the full frame (67mm) lens. Their cropped but it works. Especially if it's a specialized filter that you spent a lot of money on.

[42 mm to 39 mm] Since using Heliopan I've never had to struggle with adapting filters for different lenses.

[42 mm to 39 mm] I recently purchased a Zeiss 1:1.4/50 for my EOS 7D and thought that my Raynox DCR-1850Pro Teleconverter Lens 1.85x which I used with my Dimage camera, might be adapted to this lens. I installed this step-down ring between the two and now enjoy a 100mm+/- lens along with my great Zeiss 50mm. I store the two attached and separate as needed. The high quality of this ring makes this possible; shows little wear after much use. I am thouroughly satisfied with this ring and highly reccomend it. ( Watch for the green light,Luke, a manual focus lens, it is!)
