[Metal] This is a pretty simple device but I have to say I like it. I think that this product was well though out. Anyone who have just USB-C will love this hub.
The device is small and I like the layout of the USB-3.1 the two plus two design works better then in a strip.
I think the hub has a good weight to it which helps to keep it stable when multiple devices are plugged in.
Overall this item works and the design is good.

[Bare Wire ] To anyone looking to pick up this unit - don't read the two 1 star reviews. This is an industrial unit and is powered as such. I use a 24V power supply and works great. This unit will also function as a usb hub (without the extra oomph) if it is plugged into a PC USB port. We have used this unit with both of the above scenarios and it works great. Basically, read the instructions.

[Metal] I use this hub continuously and during several years, it works perfectly for me. I can charge a mobile phone with the USB ports, maybe not super-fast but it charges nonetheless. It has a power supply but that´s only necessary if charging something, to just plug in standard mouse and keyboard peripherals it´s not necessary, so you can travel without it.
I am very satisfied with all StarTech products including this one.

[Metal] Seems great! Running two external BD/DVD drives and an external HDD unit without any issues.
However, I don't know how well it does power delivery, as all three of those drives are independently powered.
The cable is fairly short, but works well for me since it's hidden behind everything.

[Metal] OK, first of all, the TOP USB ports are really great on the go. Second, it worked in Linux, MacOS, and Windows without any extra hoop-jumping.

And MOST importantly: It is FAST. I connected 4 different kinds of devices and all performed at full speed. Obviously the hub itself is rated faster than USB-3, but, I was hopeful that 4 USB-3 devices at once would mean all would be quick, and I was not disappointed.

Only thing to note, is that there's no option for extra power, so if your device can't cough up the electrons, and a connected USB3 device draws too much, it just won't work. Trivial overall unless you use heavy power devices. For thumb drives, average pocket-sized mobile HDD's, SSDs, cameras, etc. this thing just works, and it works well.

It is handy especially if you are short of USB ports already connected to docking stations and other devices. It gives flexibility to add more devices to work better.

[1.45 lb] i have tested this with both a Mac and Windows laptop, and am currently using it with a new 2024 Mac (which only has 2x USB-C ports on the rear). Perfect for plugging in USB memory sticks, an old USB printer, and an external USB HDD for Time Machine backup.

Positives - very fast (10Gbps), small and compact, great for travel, no drivers needed, Works with multiple O/S.
Negative - Well the only thing i can think of is when its on my desk under the Mac, (with the cable going away from you) the Startech logo is upside down! Very minor point, but this is the only negative i can come up with.

Highly recommended product, im very pleased with it.
