The Heliopan 62mm Linear Polarizer Filter for Photographyhelps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage, as well as clearer imagery when photographing in hazy conditions. A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not supports use of a camera's autofocus or auto exposure functions; it is best suited for use with manual cameras, such as view cameras, that are not dependent on internal mechanisms to determine focus or metering settings.

The front and rear surfaces of the filter both feature a single anti-reflection coating. Each coating helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, they offer protection to the filter substrate while helping to keep the glass clean for longer than uncoated glass.

This Heliopan filter is constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. It features a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Arrange and filter directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light allowing for the absorption of much of the light.

Lessens haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.

Single coatings on both the front and rear offer protection to the glass and help to improve light transmission and image quality.

Constructed from Schott glass for optical clarity.

Brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.

Dual threading with 62mm front filter threads permits combining with other filters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Thickness? Need 30.5 mm polarizer that will fit in filter drawer of 600 mm catadioptric. Filter needs to be 7 mm thick.

A: Heliopan 30.5mm Linear Polarizer Filter is 6mm thick.

Q: 2. Can this lens be used with Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ70 16.1 MP Digital Camera with 60x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3-Inch LCD (Black)?

A: You do not want to use a linear polarizing filter with today's Digital cameras. PL filters can cause unpredictable exposure or focusing problems. Your bets bet would be a circular polarizer.

Q: 3. Does this remove refelxes in car glasses?//noelcom

A: Yes it will, but it may not be the correct filter if you are using a DSLR camera. How to select the correct Polarizing FilterTwo kinds of polarizing filters are the PL (Linear Polarizing) andPL-CIR (Circular Polarizing) filters which have the same effect ofreducing glare, however, there are differences in the way each worksin combination with your specific camera so it is important toresearch and choose the correct version of filter for your camera. Many of today's cameras use semi-silvered mirrors or prisms to splitthe light (a.k.a. beam) entering the viewfinder in order tocalculate exposure and focusing distance. PL filters can sometimesinteract with these light controlling devices to give unpredictableexposure or focusing. If your camera, whether auto or manual, isequipped with this kind of device, we recommend using a PL-CIR filter. Both types of filters allow you not only to remove unwantedreflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc., butalso filter out atmospheric haze enabling colors to become moresaturated and appear clearer with a much sharper contrast. These effects will prove to be invaluable to photographers at anylevel of interest.

Q: 4. Is this filter suitable for Leica 18mm lens, without vignetting?

A: If your 10mm lens has a 77mm thread this slim filter should allow for use without vignetting.

Q: 5. I have Lee 100mm system. is it fit on lee kit?

A: If you purchase the LEE Filters 105mm Accessory Front Thread Adapter Ring, B&H # LEFARPFK105, then yes, the Heliopan 105mm Slim Circular Polarizer SH-PMC Filter would be compatible for use with the LEE Filters Foundation Kit.

Q: 6. What are the numbers (1-18) around outside edge of polarizer?

A: The numbers on the mounting ring are used as calibration dots to help with finding consistent rotational positioning.

Q: 7. With a mirrorless Micro-4/3rds camera, do you need to use a circular polarizer? Or will a linear one be effective?

A: Circular polarizer filters are recommended for use if you will be using autofocus to focus your lens, as linearly-polarized light can confuse autofocus sensors and cause autofocus errors. However, if you will be focusing your lens manually, you may use a linear polarizing filter.

Q: 8. I have a Nikon Coolpix L340. I am aware that it's lens is 35mm. Is this polarizer applicable to that particular camera?

A: The Nikon COOLPIX L340 digital camera does not have filter threads on the lens. So you cannot use any filters on this camera.

Q: 9. How many stops does this reduce the exposure?

A: 1.5 to 2 stops.

Q: 10. Is there one or a quantity of four filters per package?

A: This would be one linear polarizer measuring 4 X 4.

[62 mm] The Hoya polarizer filter is a great enhancement for my pictures with the sky being darker and the foliage have a deeper color. The threads work well on a Sigma 150-500 mm lens. My only wish is to be able to adjust the rotation of the filter with the sun shade attached. Still this filter is a great value.

[Brass] The Hoya 52mm polarizer is exactly what I wanted at a fair price. Overall build and performance quality is more than acceptable and balanced. I'm rating the product a top-rating primarily because of the great quality:price ratio. Living in Hawaii, near the sea and moisture haze, a good quality polarizer always helps to get the most out of every shot. It's always great to get something that works that doesn't have to break your pocketbook or get overly hyped.

[Brass] I had read reviews from others about using this filter along with a circular polarizer to make an inexpensive variable neutral density filter. So I gave it a try and it works great!

[62 mm] My original polarizer for this lens was cracked and I knew I needed a new one. I use it when taking pictures of sunsets, or if the sun is very bright throughout the day. It fits my lens well and the pricing on this item was very reasonable. I would recommend it to others. The delivery of the lens was very prompt. Ellen P.

[0.2 lb] As other Hoya products, this one doesn't disappoint. Filter and coating quality is excellent. DSLR users please note that this is a LINEAR polarizer. It won't work well with a standard digital camera! For DSLR you need a circular polarizer. I needed it for a special application.

[Glass] Great polarizer, bought on a whim. My usual weapon of choice would be a Tiffen, but they were back-ordered and I was impatient. No complaints with the Hoya whatsoever and it was competitively priced. Does the job as well as any other brand and it is well-built, smooth action on the ring.
