The Blackmagic Smart Videohub CleanSwitch 12x12 6G-SDIfrom Blackmagic Smart Videohub CleanSwitch 12x12 6G-SDIis a mixed format router with 12 6G-SDI inputs and 12 6G-SDI outputs for routing any combination of SD, HD, Ultra HD 4K, and DCI 4K video. The CleanSwitch model allows for re-timing of SDI feeds, so all switches are timed to happen between frames. It supports 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 color sampling and 10-bit processing for smoother gradations. Housed in a 1RU frame, the Smart Videohub is ideal for use in both large broadcast systems or portable mini racks for live productions. A built-in LCD lets view your sources directly on the router itself, with simple push buttons and spin knob provided for control. Routing can also be controlled using dedicated remote panels or over Ethernet using the included software for Mac OS X and Windows. You can even use the available iPad app to change routing over your wireless network.

Q: 1. This equipement will work as presentation switcher??

A: No this works best to route video or to distribute multiple inputs to multiple outputs. Primarily because each output has independent control and no group switching is available the recommendation is to purchase additional hardware to control switching.

Q: 3. Is this model loud? I have the same one from about 10 years ago and its very loud due to the cooling fan. I am wondering if this is an updated design that had fixed that issue.

A: The following model internals have been majorly improved that being heatsink and power supply hardware.

Q: 4. Would it work if I connected a wireless receiver to a sdi input on this?

A: If the wireless receiver sends the Videohub a supported SMPTE standard SDI signal then yes, it should work.

Q: 5. Can this split an input and send to multiple outputs OR is this always 1 input to 1 output routing?

A: You can take 1 input to as many outputs as you want. It's a full matrix router.

Q: 6. If I have 12G SDI cables connected to this, but send a 6G signal (4K 30p), would there be any problems? I assume everything would work just fine, no?

A: 100%. A end-user would just be future proofing their feed. Great workflow practice.

Q: 7. will this box pass closed captioning information?

A: Yes SDI closed captions are supported.

Q: 8. I currently have 3G cables running to all my cameras and devices, does this unit accept the 3G signals or what?

A: As Blackmagic Design has stated, 3G cables would be fine for short distances of 6G signals or at greater lengths for 3G signals. If you plan on using 4K content, you may want to consider upgrading cables if your distance is significant.

Q: 9. Can I input a 720 signal and then send it out as 1080?

A: No, Its merely a router and not an up converter. However, you can have two inputs of different resolutions. But it wont convert the signal. It will pass them as they are.

Q: 10. Can you create Macros with the CleanSwitch 12X12?

A: Creating macros is not listed as an ability of the Blackmagic Design Smart Videohub CleanSwitch.

[2.2"] Great unit. Probably thirty hours on unit. Ran 100 feet of cable outside, into a coupler, and then another 100 feet of cable inside to end point BMD 6G-SDI to HDMI 4K unit. It was raining that day and in the 40s outside. I could not see any degradation in the audio or video. Never lost signal even for a second. I was sending hdmi video and analog audio over 3G-SDI cable. Number 1 & 8 are up. Numbers 2-7 are down. This was my first experience with SDI & BMD equipment. Note; For this unit, ON is down, Off is up. 5

[5.15 lb] I had to send a signal 200ft and I used this converter and the SDI to HDMI version. This works like a charm and is high quality. 5
