Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this come with a power adapter? If so, can it work for 110v to 220v?

A: Yes, the Rolls MP13 Mini-Mic Preamp includes the Rolls PS27s 15 Vdc 500ma 100-240VAC power adapter.

Q: 2. Do I need to run phantom power to this device in order to make it work?

A: Yes, it would need phantom power to power the lavaliers.

Q: 3. Will this preamp boost an XLR signal a further distance than without using it? I have to cover a distance of ~300ft and am trying to assure no loss of signal.

A: The Rolls Mini-Mic Preamp is not really designed for boosting signal on a long cable run. For 300 feet, you should use high quality shielded audio cables to avoid signal loss and if you do need to increase the gain without adding noise, you might want to try the Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator (B&H # CLCL1) which improves signal-to-noise ratio and improves the performance of passive microphone signals by driving stronger, cleaner signals over longer XLR cable runs.

Q: 4. What adapter or cable can I use to connect this to a regular 3 pin XLR cable? Thanks

A: This PGA98H-TQG model is wired for connection to a Shure wireless transmitter. Although there is an adapter available, for XLR connection with phantom power, it will usually not be the most cost effective option: (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/619325-REG/Voice_Technologies_VT0137_VT1126_48V_Phantom_Power.html). Instead, I would recommend purchasing the version of this mic that is already made for a hardwired XLR connection. Our part number for it is SHPGA98HXLR and I am linking it below: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1128561-REG/shure_pga98h_xlr_pga_98h_clip_on_cardioid.html

Q: 5. Which Rolls preamps are battery powered?

A: NO LO SE

Q: 6. Will this boost an XLR signal a further distance? I have a cable run of ~250ft and am trying to assure that I don't lose a signal.

A: The Rolls Mini-Mic Preamp is not really designed for boosting signal on a long cable run. For ~250 feet, you should use high quality shielded audio cables to avoid signal loss and if you do need to increase the gain without adding noise, you might want to try the Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator (B&H # CLCL1) which improves signal-to-noise ratio and improves the performance of passive microphone signals by driving stronger, cleaner signals over longer XLR cable runs.

Q: 7. How long is the flexible gooseneck ?

A: The Flexible gooseneck is about 3.3 inches in height.

Q: 8. How about feedback? Does it get much feedback?

A: No, the PGA58 is not prone to feedback. Its cardioid polar pattern focuses on the user's voice while rejecting unwanted background noise and delivers a clear and natural tone.

Q: 9. Will this work to power and amplify a condenser mic fed into a 3-way line splitter, specifically a Whirlwind SP1X3LL?

A: The Rolls MP13 is able to power a condenser mic and the output can be connected to a splitter such as the Whirlwind SP1X3LL. The MP13 however only offers 36v of phantom power and would not be recommended for mics who require a full 48v. Many mics are able to operate at a range of voltages from 9v - 52v and you should check your mics requirements before purchase.

Q: 10. what cable to use with SM81-LC?

A: xlr3 cable! like any mic..

[1.68 lb] This mic was recommended to me by a saxophone buddy who used this for both live performance and recording. This has served me well in both capacities and I was able to move around during the performance and play comfortably!

[Solid-State] I had to crank the mic gain all the way up, now I don't! $30 well spent.

[Solid-State] I'm a musician, producer and audio designer, recording professionally for over 5 years. The SM-81 has been the small diaphragm condenser of choice in many studios since it was released. I own a pair of them and have used them primarily as drum overhead mics, and for stereo mic'ing acoustic guitars and other stringed instruments. The SM-81 is one of the most accurate mic's I've used (what you hear is what you get). They are also very well made... like long, silver, cylindrical jewels. The -10db pad and low end roll off switches are easy to get to, but not easy to accidentally switch on or off. They are also one of the quietest (low self-noise) mics. Many jazz artists love them because of their accuracy. They also work quite well for recording choirs and pipe organs.

[Cardioid] I picked up one of these as a quick purchase to give some extra boost to my Shure SM7b. I do have another brans inline preamp that I also really like, honestly the price on this was low enough for me to take the risk.

I am certainly impressed with the Polsen. It does what it says, and it does it well. For the price, it's a no-brainer if you're looking to add some oomph to your dynamic, or ribbon mics with little to no added noise! I'll be ordering more for my studio. Recommended.
