Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Roland's list for this RCC-3-TRXM cable subtitles it a "balanced interconnect cable," but the product package diagram shows one lead and one shield; no 3rd lead for balancing signal. So which is this: bal/unbal?

A: The RCC-3-TRXM is a balanced audio cable. The XLR and 1/4" TRS connectors provide a balanced signal.

Q: 2. What about 48volt phantom power? Do the mics still get enough juice?

A: The Hosa Technology YXM-101.5 XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Audio Y-Cable is not designed to split signals from microphones directly and therefore may not provide adequate power to a microphone requiring 48 volts.

Q: 3. Will this allow me to connect my 3.5mm lav microphones to the XLR ports on either a Tascam DR-40x or Zoom H5 or H6 ?

A: The Switchcraft 318 is for connecting a line out 1/8'' source to an XLR mic input. For an 1/8'' microphone that is battery powered, it would be more ideal to use a Kopul mini to XLR adapter (B&H # KOAXMMF). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/985832-REG/kopul_a_xmmf_adapter_xlr_male.html If you are using an 1/8'' microphone that is not battery powered and instead uses mic plugin power, then you would use the Rode VXLR Plus adapter with the phantom power on your DR-40X or H5 or H6 turned on (B&H # ROVXLRP). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1358231-REG/rode_vxlr_mini_jack_to_xlr_adaptor.html

Q: 4. What gauge?

A: 24 AWG

Q: 5. Is this a stereo cable? need it for electric piano to receiver...

A: This is not meant to be stereo cable. However it will work as stereo cable. Just to keep in mind - this cable is more for PA systems or average home studio systems and not of a category for high end audio or hifi audio. This cable seems to have higher resistance than normal stereo cable in my experience.

Q: 6. A lot of these cables seem to short one of the signal pins to ground, which can cause issues or even damage output circuits. Is this the case here?

A: As our trusted rep from Hosa has mentioned, this is an unbalanced cable with pins 1 and 3 connecting to the sleeve while pin 2 connects to the tip. The Rean connectors used in its construction are pro quality and made by Neutrik. An unbalanced XLR to 1/4" cable like this one has a 1/4" TS connector which won't short the signal when used to connect to an unbalanced input. Avoid using balanced XLR to 1/4" TRS cables, which could cause issues when used to connect to an unbalanced input.

Q: 7. How will these work between an audio interface and a pair of powered nearfield monitors?Which is ideal, balanced or unbalanced cables?Thank you.

A: The Hosa HSS-005 is a solid choice for a well priced quality cable. Powered monitor inputs and audio interface outputs are generally designed to be used with balanced cables. This is usually noted in the documentation, and in the case of the monitors printed directly on the unit. The benefit of a balanced cable would be superior rejection of RF into the cable vs. an unbalanced cable. This will come into play for longer cable runs.

Q: 8. If phantom power is sent on the line this is plugged into will it prevent damage to the source like a phone?

A: The Switchcraft 318 AudioStix does not pass phantom power. It's for connecting a 3.5mm signal to a PA mixer mic in.

Q: 9. I’m interested in this to do a home theater system between pre-amp & amp, How about background noise/Hiss?

A: These are Hosa so they're not Class A but they're still reliable and relatively clean and quiet.

Q: 10. Looking for a mic cable with high quality transmission plus extra strength for hanging microphone arrays. Does the kelvar reinforcement in this cable make it strong enough to suspend mics and array hardware from just the mic cables?

A: Yes, the Pro Co Sound AmeriQuad 3-Pin XLR Male to 3-Pin XLR Female Lo-Z Microphone Cable can be used with hanging microphone arrays. As with any cable that will be used to suspend a microphone, just be aware of the weight of the mic and test it beforehand to make sure that it is secure.

[Neutrik] For a few dollars more, you get metal XLR's instead of plastic. With as much as these get stepped-on, the price is more than worth it.

[20 AWG] Used as a patch cable to connect Wireless Mic receiver to a mixer board. I was concerned about the quality given the very low price, but no issues, and no visible signs of shortchanging on quality. Thanks to B&H for carrying such a great value!

[20 AWG] I was looking for a buget cable as price goes, but one that would't sacrifice quality and I found what I was looking for with this item.

[Yes] Not much to say other than it's a standard XLR cable. I bought it to connect my podcasting mic to an audio interface, and it felt nice and secure on both ends when I plugged it in. Even though it only connects things from one side of my desk to another, in retrospect I would've gone a length or two up rather than pick the 5' option.

[Neutrik] Don't know about those of you reading this review, but I've had a hard time finding shorter XLR mic cable. Decent quality for Hosa as usual...
