The Redrock Micro One Man Crew Motorized Sliderfrom Redrock Micro One Man Crew Motorized Slideris a 36" motorized parabolic slider that lets you add cinematic motion to your video without needing a dedicated operator. It builds upon the design of the original One Man Crew, adding a re-designed low noise drive system for quieter slides, and new machined aluminum rails for even smoother motion with loads weighing up to 22 pounds. The slider also features remote control functionality, letting you setup and control the slider from your mobile device using Redrock's OMC Remote app. Additionally, the app can control camera start/stop recording when used with a compatible camera and optional remote cable. For a ready-to-use package, a Redrock Heavy Load Tilt Head is included along with an AC Adapter, D-Tap DC battery cable, a set of adapters for mounting the slider on light stands or c-stands, two cable wrangler clamps, and a padded carrying case.

Benefiting small or single-person crews, the One Man Crew Director is quick to set up and easy to use thanks to intuitive controls and laser-assisted subject placement. It is able to capture nearly every shot typically found in interviews, including wide master shots, "two shots", and closeups. In addition to interviews, the slider is also well-suited to product shots, b-roll inserts, time lapses, or any shot where you can use a tripod. It can used to operate the main camera, a B-camera for closeup shots and inserts.

Once setup and your subject is in focus, the StayFocus curved rail helps keep your subject stationary within the frame and in focus without the assistance of an operator. This is particular important when using the OMC Remote app on your mobile device to control. With the ability to quickly reset the slider for your next interview question and adjust the speed on-the-fly to match the pacing of the interview, the app is an invaluable tool for single-person crews. You can even use gesture control on your mobile device to control the slider without ever having to take your eyes off of your subject.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. could i record the movements between two points (linear, pan, tilt, zoom, focus) and then re-produce that later in next shots?

A: Yes, for the 3 axis of Pan, Tilt and Tracking that this offers you are able to reproduce movements.

Q: 2. Has anyone used this with an FS7 or F3/F5 fully rigged?

A: If the camera/lens/battery/tripod head is under 22lbs, we see no reason any of those cameras would not work. Just don't try a 70mm IMAX camera on it.

Q: 3. can this stand on its own ie can you place it flat on the floor ? or it needs to be elevated?

A: You can set it flat on the floor.

Q: 4. Can this be mounted upside down from the ceiling and used with a ptz camera?

A: This system is not designed to be mounted upside down to work in that way. It may be possible, but it would be a completely custom set up which we do not recommend.

Q: 5. Can this be used with Canon c200?

A: Hi there, you can use a camera up to 10 lbs to slide horizontally, and up to 5 lbs to slide vertically. A C200 set up to be as light as possible would work for many shots, but we always recommend the smallest camera you can get away with for motion control shots. From a product review by Videomaker, when we attached the Canon C300 MKII, a camera that is above recommended weight, the motors pan, tilted and slid with ease a href= https://www.videomaker.com/article/r02/19045-review-cinetics-lynx-motion-controlled-slider-offers-simple-motion-control-solution target= _blank https://www.videomaker.com/article/r02/19045-review-cinetics-lynx-motion-controlled-slider-offers-simple-motion-control-solution/aThanks for the questions!

Q: 6. What is max capacity in vertical mode?

A: We use a C300 with a 16-35 on it with no issues... along with 24 and 50 Canon Cine's

Q: 7. How fast is the maximum speed of the slider? ie. how long does it take to go from one end to the other? Any clips showing this?

A: Hi JeremieMax speed on Dolly Fast mode is 12 seconds. There is interview mode, dolly mode, and timelapse mode all with their own min and max speedyou can see all the details in the user guide here:a href= http://store.redrockmicro.com/start/assembly_docs/One-Man-Crew/OneManCrew-control-panel-modes-Doc.pdf target= _blank http://store.redrockmicro.com/start/assembly_docs/One-Man-Crew/OneManCrew-control-panel-modes-Doc.pdf/a

Q: 8. Which version OMCD is this? The updated version with the ultra-low noise drive system? Or the original version?

A: Hi Charles - thanks for your questionthis is the updated version - the One Man Crew DIrectorin addition to the internal improvements, it also is a deluxe kit and includes the most popular accessories in this bundle.hope that helps

Q: 9. Is this normal? When I turn on the one man crew and start it in the left direction when it reaches the end of the track it stops and makes a loud knocking noise... then it will go right or I need to push the right button. After that it functions normally. But is that common? It doesn't seem correct. Please let me know so I can send this back before my 30 days are up. Thank you!

A: It's been a while since I used our slider but I don't remember it making a loud sound anytime.

Q: 10. Does this unit allow slave mode with advanced external intervalometers using an AUX Cable?

A: The Cinetics Lynx 3 Axis Motorized Slider has it's own control system which can use a Cinetics CineMoco Shutter-Release (https://bhpho.to/3Kfblb0) for select cameras, in order to trigger shutter commands. Cinetics recommends using the Cinetics Lynx Controller to control these commands.

[55 x 13.25 x 5"] I don't have the director edition (bluetooth controllable version), just the original. I just set it up and let it do its thing. At the slowest speed, watching it live, many people can't tell that there's movement. But it adds a dynamic shot even when used back and forth over entire shot.

My personal OMC has been rented out to crews that covered the Olympics for an entire week. They said it worked like a champ for hours of coverage every day.

Super easy to set up and use. Does what it says. And its quiet enough for production use with proper microphones and technique.

[55 x 13.25 x 5"] Took 5 minutes to set-up and shot my best interview yet. Bought the D-tap, when running on battery motor will hum lightly. Everything else is a breeze to use. Tilt head was defective, emailed company responded immediately with RMA and sent a replacement head before sending my defective one in.

[26 lb] Others have called the One Man Crew (OMC) a game-changer, and it is. it's an unmanned slider that keeps the subject perfectly framed and in focus the entire time. UNMANNED. Set it and forget it. Let it do its thing, and if you want have another camera shooting another angle... use it for precise slider shots, wide, medium, or tight... repeatable moves. There is so much you can do with it. I used it to capture a world-renowned wind instrument performer for a music video. Shot four different angles very quickly in four perfect takes, different shot sizes, keeping him perfectly in frame, and I shot the video completely by myself-- literally a one man crew. Took about 30 minutes to shoot the entire video. Some users report some detectable motor or belt noise, but that was on the earliest version some years ago and has been redesigned and improved in its current iteration as the OMC Director. It is not completely silent (no motorized system is) but I have found my OMC Director to be usable in quiet environments such as interviews. Redrock Micro is super-attentive to the real-world needs of filmmakers. They are a nimble company who quickly adjusts to evolving customer needs and are legendary for innovative, cutting-edge products that are incredible bang-for-the-buck. And they stand behind them. If you have a rare problem with a product, contact them (they're findable on the web.) I say this based on a over a decade of using many of their tools which have greatly enhanced my work as a cinematographer and filmmaker. If you're using a slider and want to save money not hiring additional crew to operate it-- and want perfectly framed slider shots every time-- the OMC Director is the tool for the job.

[55 x 13.25 x 5"] We've only been using it for a week but I love it. Adds a nice easy production touch to our interviews and down and dirty Youtube videos clips. Some folks talked about how noisy it was but I don't hear that. Great tool if you are creating content without alot of budget!

[26 lb] The One Man Crew Director has changed the way I work on solo shoots. Its low profile body, and streamlined interface, makes it super easy to setup/dial in settings.

Its an overall quiet unit, comes with a sweet carrying case, two different power options, and an online user guide.

And a shout out to the folks at Redrock who were very helpful, and quick to respond to my questions.

[55 x 13.25 x 5"] Redrock Micro has had a huge impact on indie filmmakers/producers by continually putting out incredibly useful and well priced tools for the community. The One Man Crew slider is by far one of the most useful tools I use on my commercial and corporate productions. Having the camera move back and forth automatically, along a curved parabolic track ensures that you have smooth, cinematic, and repeatable slider moves that stay in focus! The app that you can download from the iTunes store really improves the usability of the slider. You can change the speed and direction, set end marks, etc all with a tap/swipe of the iPhone screen. The app feels very well thought out and intuitive and is a must download for all OMC owners. The app truly is what makes you a one man crew. I love the OMC especially because it is super easy to set up. I use a 75mm bowl adapter in the middle of the slider, which is enough to ensure smooth back and forth moves without slippage for the cameras I use. ( C100, A7s, GH4, 5DIII). I can probably have the slider up and running in literally 5 minutes. The lasers on the rig help you set the proper distance of your subjects so that they stay in focus, although this is not as critical when you're shooting with a wide angle lens. I've looked at the other alternatives from Kessler, but what sets the OMC crew apart is how fast and easy it is to set up. You literally pull it out of the case, screw on the tripod adapter, mount the camera, plug it in, and you're rocking and rolling. Sometimes I don't have time to build a motorized slider rig, especially when I'm on a job by myself. If you're looking to add one piece of gear to your kit that will increase production value and pay dividends with clients, I would highly recommend you pick up a OMC setup.

[26 lb] The OMC has dramatically improved the quality of my productions. Tabletop dollies are useful but most of the time require a lot of setup if they are motorized. The OMC is specifically designed to speed up workflow on set and provide higher quality results and performance than it's competitors. The only problem I have with it is it seems quite big. But other than that it's excellent.

[55 x 13.25 x 5"] We are a small production company that does a lot of doc style web and commercial content. For years we have been looking at options that give us movement in interviews and talking head shots. We were introduced to the OMC at a local store product showcase and were pretty much sold on the spot for the OMC. Having worked with it for awhile now, it's become an essential piece of our kit and we use it not only for interview movement, but for product shots as well. It's simple, easy to setup and works every time. There have been complaints of the noise coming from the motor, but we find it only happens at high speed. Perfect hardware for anyone who does a lot of interview shooting.
