A: No, it uses natural daylight, and you, therefore, must keep your fingers clear of the small white aperture on top. You can try a small white led light with your other hand for use at night, as the compass is not normally visible without adequate overhead light.

A: The YS-03 is an auto only strobe, and uses a pre-flash. So the YS-03 exposure is set by the camera's built-in flash. Since the YS-01 does not use the pre-flash in manual mode it will not fire. To use the YS-03 and the YS-01 together you have to set the YS-01 on TTL, not manual. It is best to use two YS-03, or even better to use two YS-01.

I use my 24-105 primarily but when I shoot wide groups shots this lens is an amazing tool to have. I have shot it on a 70D and the quality was great, I have recently upgraded to a 5D III and it became an even more valued part of my gear. This lens is definitely capable of growing with you and helping with your quality.
