Utilizing a multi-layer coating process for consistent color rendition from lens to lens, the Samyang 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens for Nikon Fanswers the challenge of assembling a set of lenses over time. The lens comes in Nikon F Mount and features industry standard geared focus and iris rings that share common position with other Samyang VDSLRII Cine lenses. To aid focus pullers who have to work both sides of the lens, the aperture and focus scales are marked on both sides of the lens.
This 35mm lens produces a 84.1° coverage when used with full frame cameras. Hybrid aspherical lenses render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations, with a minimum focus distance of just under 12" from the lens. A removable petal shaped lens hood provides flare protection when shooting without a matte box, the lenses threaded front accepts a 77mm filter ring.
Please note that some cameras may require that Shutter Lock be disengaged when using this lens.

Ultra Multi Coated lenses minimize flare and ghosting, and the lenses are color matched to a standard eliminating the need to acquire an entire set of lenses at the same time.
Industry-standard gearing for focus and aperture rings. Each lens in the Samyang VDSLRII Cine lens series share common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.
Declicked aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.
A minimum focusing distance of 12" allows you to get up close to your subject.
A removable petal-type lens hood provides flare protection without a matte box.
The lens opens up to T1.5, providing the capability for low light shooting or creating extremely shallow depth of field.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Hi,What is really different between this VDSLRII version and the DS Cine Lens version? Beside just the colour match correction? Do they sharper and focus movement more precise? or anything?Thank you.
A: Outside of the different labels, you can consider these lenses identical. You can buy either one and get the same performance.
Q: 2. Is the gearing spacing (Iris, Focus) for this the same as Rokinon Cine DS lenses?
A: Considering the VDSLRII and DS models share the same design, the focus and iris spacing is similar.
Q: 3. I am considering purchasing this for cinema and astrophotograpy. Does the cine version focus confirm like the photo version?
A: The primary difference between the still and cine lenses made under the Samyang/Rokinon brand names is the barrel. Still lenses have vertical scales and no gears. Cine lenses have horizontal scales and gears. The image quality of the color and sharpness is remarkable considering their cost. These would be excellent for cine use. For astrophotography, I would be of the opinion that the corners might have chromatic aberration and coma. This would have to be tested.
Q: 4. Hello, does it worth buying this cine lens than other mainstreams still lens like sigma or sony E with OSS? (in term of picture quality and sharpness tho)
A: This lens is sharp and has excellent picture quality. What sets this lens apart isn't the image quality but how you control it. This Samyang lens is great for someone who wants to manually control their lens and does not need autofocus. The Sigma and Sony lenses are great for people who need or like to use autofocus.
Q: 5. Can you clarify difference about DC, AS IF UMC & VDSRLII styles?... Its all about ring position?Which is best for video?
A: If you have an assistant pulling focus, get the Rokinon DS or Dual Side focus marked lenses. They also will be better color matched if you get more than one lens. Otherwise Samyang and Roknion are pretty much the same quality and all made in the same factory. Roknion may have a better resale value.
Q: 6. What is the different with Samyang 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens for Canon EF?
A: With professional gear the difference is often subtle and the necessity of a feature vs its cost is not readily apparent. But once on set, you want to work as effortlessly as possible and cost becomes less relevant and features more so.What you are getting with Samyangs VDSLRII line of lenses is their top quality consumer grade cine lenses. This means they have the all-important matched color/sharpness required for simplified post production color grading. The other plus is having the gear rings in the same place so that when you swap lenses, the follow focus and the aperture control systems do not have to be adjusted back and forth on the 15mm rods. This saves time and effort on set. If you compare the two lenses in the photos, you will see that the focus gear is more to the rear on the Samyang 35mm T1.5 VDSLRII. Of course, whether or not the $180 extra is worth it for this feature is entirely up to you.
Q: 7. Is this lens compatible with the Speed Booster XL?
A: Yes, absolutely. I am using it on a GH5 with the Speedbooster XL and it's perfect.
Q: 8. Can this lens support Nikon d3300?
A: Yes, this will work with the D3300 which has an F Mount.
Q: 9. Im sorry but one more question. Even in the still version are optically the same?thank you in advance.Oun
A: Please ask questions! That is what we are here for, your questions. The price difference is for the body of the lens which is made to a higher, more precise tolerance, and has gears, horizontal scales and a clickless aperture ring. The image quality on a focused subject will be about the same for both lenses. There may be breathing (image size change) while follow focusing if you use the still lens for video.
Q: 10. What is different from AS UMC and DS Lens?
A: The lenses that are marked DS have the aperture and focus scales marked on both sides of the lens. DS stands for dual sided. With the models that are not DS the markings are only on one side of the lens.
