The Heliopan Bay 50 Light-Yellow Glass Filter for B&W Filmis commonly used for a noticeable increase in contrast with black and white films. When your black and white images are flat, throw on a contrast filter.

Contrast in black and white is generally controlled by yellow, orange and red filters with red producing the greatest contrast. Moderate changes can be accomplished with yellow, which can generally bump up the contrast just enough to make the difference between a "muddy" print and an acceptable image.

Heliopan Lichtfilter-Technik of Munich, Germany has changed their black anodized brass filter rings on most Heliopan non-rotating filters to their "slim" mounts. These slim mounts are made of black anodized brass stock and have so little rim in front of the lens (5.4mm) that they will not vignette with lenses as short as 21mm.

Heliopan offers a wide selection of sizes, screw-in, series, bayonet, square and rectangular filters including digital, video, center weighted, graduated, wide angle, Kaesmann polarizers, drop-in polarizers, etc.

Heliopan cuts, grinds, polishes and coats their filters with the same techniques and equipment as used for the finest German camera lenses

All Heliopan screw-in type and series size filters are mounted in precision black anodized brass rings to eliminate binding or cross threading and to ensure optimal alignment

Filters still retain front threads for a lens cap, a lens hood or even stacking a second filter

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this Bay III filter be used on a Rolleiflex 2.8C along with the Rollei lens hood?

A: No, the Heliopan Bay 3 Clear Protection Filter can not be used at the same time as the lens hood.

Q: 2. So when I have this filter attached to my lens, is adding +1 exposure compensation sufficient for proper exposures?

A: If you have through-the-lens (TTL) metering then you don' have to compensate. For example, the TTL on my Nikon camera takes the filter into account when metering. If your camera is a rangefinder, then you'll probably have to compensate by adding +1 exposure, as the meter might not account for the filter. One way to test is to try to meter in a consistent light situation without AND with the filter. If the meter is asking you to open up or slow down the shutter speed (ie. add exposure) when you have the filter on, then your camera is already accounting for the filter. If there is no difference in metering between with or without the filter, then your camera is not account for the filter when metering and you'll have to compensate. Hope this helps.

Q: 3. will this fit a Bay III rolleiflex?

A: Yes, the Heliopan #25 Light Red Filter (Bay 3) is compatible with any standard Bay 3 connection.

Q: 4. what does bay 6 or 60 mean?

A: Bay is short for bayonet. Heliopan makes these bay filters specifically for Hasselblad and Rollei lenses.

Q: 5. will this fit a Nikon 15mm lens?

A: It will probably fit but be too thick and will most likely hit the mirror.

Q: 6. Would this lens be appropriate for color infrared film?

A: Hi Cindy,I think you mean filter, not lens. This filter is intended for black and white film only. It is good for increasing contrast in a scene that has low contrast. There is a 1 stop filter factor.

Q: 7. Will this fit my Yashica D?

A: Yes the Nisha Bay 1 Yellow Filter should fit the Yashica D as it has a Bay I (Bayonet type I) filter size.

Q: 8. Will this fit a Yashicaflex A2?

A: Unfortunately, no, it does not appear that the Yashicaflex A2 Twin-lens Reflex Camera used the Bay 1 Filter Mount, so it would not be compatible for use with the Nisha Bay 1 Yellow Filter.

Q: 9. Does this filter have a slim mount?

A: This filter does not come in a slim mount version, but it is available in an SH-PMC coated version.

Q: 10. Hello, is this heliopan bay 3 clear protection filter, fit the rolleiflex 2.8gx front lens?? the bay 3 is mean the rolleiflex filter mount right?? Thank you.

A: Yes, Bay 3 is the size of this filter. This will fit any lens with a bay 3 filter size.

[Brass] Not a lot to elaborate on. The filter is very well made, I especially like that it's brass rather than aluminum. What I was looking for was one very high quality filter to use on all my lenses that would impair the image quality the least and provide protection. When I first received it I held it up in front of my eyes to compare looking through the filter vs my naked eye. I know this isn't a very accurate way to compare so take this as you will, but the filtered image looked sharper, less glare and contrastier colors than without. Go figure. All in all a great filter, but an expensive one.

[Bay 50] Great filter with slim design yet still keeps the inner threads so I can use the cap on my 16-35. Will definitely buy this again for the 24 TSE.

[Brass] While not easy to find anywhere else, BH Photo stocks or will provide special order availability for many high quality Heliopan Bay 1,2,3, filters. This of course, is much appreciated and one of the many reasons that I shop BH Photo and Video for my special needs.

I shoot film and have many analogue cameras in formats from Large Format to 35mm film. The premium quality Heliopan filter provides the highest sharpness possible and supports my technical requirements for my Rolleiflex TLR 2.8 Planar/Xenotar filter needs. I also use Bay 1 filters for my 3.5 Tessar and Xenar lens requirements.

The Heliopan filters fit more secure (snug) than the vintage Rollei filters that one can buy used. So, they screw on with a little more effort-use a little more turning pressure. They allow the same stacking and use of a Rollei lens hood.

Thank you BH for stocking these hard to find filters for the classic camera enthusiast like me!

[0.15 lb] Got a Heliopan clear filter to protect my Nikkor 70-300mm zoom telephoto lens. While there is glass between the lens and the subject, the Heliopan Protection Filter is just like it isn't there, yet it provides protection, which is its defined purpose.

[Bay 50] Use this for cutting CA in a few different lenses and scopes.
Does take a manual wb adjustment but does the job. Well built filter with no thread sticking is a plus.
