The Heliopan 48mm KR 1.5 Skylight Filteris a general use filter with a slight pink tint to help improve overall color accuracy and clarity. The light pink coloration helps to reduce the overall bluish cast of daylight and is especially effective when photographing landscapes and in shade. It is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

The front and rear surfaces of the filter both feature a single anti-reflection coating. Each coating helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, they offer protection to the filter substrate while helping to keep the glass clean for longer than uncoated glass.

This Heliopan filter is constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. It features a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

A: I think it is money well spent. As you know filters tend to get dirty fast so I'm cleaning them a lot. I've had the cheaper ones and I've noticed hair line scratches from wiping over an extended period of time.Good luck.Bart W

A: No, the Tiffen 40.5mm Skylight 1-A Filter would not fit the Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.8 LTM Lens. The Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.8 LTM Lens uses 40mm filters, so the Tiffen 40.5mm Skylight 1-A Filter would be too large to fit properly on the Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.8 LTM Lens. While we do not have a 40mm skylight filter, we do have a NiSi 40mm PRO UV Filter, B&H # NIRUV40, which may be used as a protection filter with your lens.

Q: 10. I do not have a lot of experience with Neutral Density filters. I bought one that is a 10 stop, and I did not realize that I would not be able to see through it. So it is much more work setting up my shot. Will I be able to see through a 3 stop filter?

A: Put the camera on a tripod, manual focus then screw the the filter on carefully. Cover the viewfinder as light leaks on long exposure. Take the photo with a cable release or 2 second timerIt is for very long exposures for minute. Cool cloud effects. i doubt if you could see throu the 3 stop either. They all are for tripod use

[Glass] Nicely made. Heavy brass ring is low profile. So smooth going on, tightens gradually with feel. Multicoated on both sides, should be optically excellent. Expensive, sure, but so's my lens and now I won't worry about the slightest degradation in optical performance. I get the Skylight (slightly colored) version just because I always have since way back in the days of film, so now all my filters are consistent. I would be very surprised if the color or anything about this filter causes the slightest noticeable degradation of anything. 5

[0.2 lb] Good anti-reflective coating. Still use a Skylight when using film, specially with E-6 process Kodaks. Brass holder doesn't gaul to aluminum threads like cheap aluminum holders. 5

[Brass] Seems really well made. I bought this to replace a more basic uncoated UV filter on my 17-35mm lens. My intention is that the multicoating on both sides will improve transmission over an uncoated filter, and the slight color might subtly improve color rendition. Mostly it's for protecting the front surface and threaded rim of the lens. At least once in the past 50 years of shooting, I've had a lens hit the ground and be 100% saved by a skylight filter (which was destroyed). Even the chi-chi multicoated version is cheap insurance that can save a shoot. Personally I feel that all the debate about skylight vs. clear UV is much ado about nothing. Any effect you might notice could be adjusted out easily if you found it objectionable. I just use the skylight color because I always have. Maybe there was more of a point to it in the days of film. I'm not going to spend any more cycles on it... 5

[Glass] I bought this to use with my Canonet QL17 and it works just as expected. Slight obstruction to lower right corner of viewfinder but not enough to make a difference when composing a shot. Item is matt black, has a quality feel to it and screws on easily to the front of the lens. It has grooves on the front for a filter or lens cap. Would highly recommend this product. I was especially happy I didn't have to buy a step up adapter. 5

[Glass] I use skylight filters (instead of clear or UV) to protect my lenses. I like the overall warming effect and really like how it reduces the blue cast from shadows. It really warms up skin tone too 5

[0.2 lb] I always used a skylight filter outdoors with Kodachrome and the results were noticeable. I've recently started using color negative film in medium format and 35 mm and bought this filter for that purpose. The quality of the glass is extremely important for me, and this Schott glass is the best quality skylight filter I have found. 5

[48 mm] I have a Konica 1 camera from the 1950s. It's difficult to find filters and hoods for. So, I've taken to using a 41mm series VI adapter which pushes onto the lens. That allows me to use series VI hoods. The problem then becomes one of filters for the camera. Most series VI filters are uncoated, and probably delaminated by now. As well, they are likely to be scratched up.The Heliopan series VI gives me the benefit of a brand new filter in this no-longer common filter size. Planar filter surfaces, coating, and Schott glass are some of the benefits of the Heliopan filter.I also bought their Series VI yellow filter for use with B&W film. 5
