Tiffen 58mm Skylight Filter For Wide Angle Lenses

Tiffen 58mm Skylight Filter For Wide Angle Lenses

$70.20 $84.24

The Tiffen 58mm Skylight Filter for Wide Angle Lensesis a general use filter with a slight pink tint to help improve overall color accuracy and clarity. The light pink coloration helps to reduce the overall bluish cast of daylight and is especially effective when photographing landscapes and in shade.

The Sky 1A filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

This filter features a slimmer profile mounting ring, which is ideal for use with wide angle lenses. It does not have front filter threads for stacking filters.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

[0.195 lb] I just got this filter today so haven't had a chance to use it yet. I suspect that its performance will be just fine. Note that the construction has apparently changed since previous users wrote their reviews. The outer ring has a groove that permits a lens cap to be placed over the filter. It's not threaded, so you can't install additional filters, but at least you no longer have to take the filter off the lens in order to attach a lens cap.

[Aluminum] It stays on my lens now!

[0.195 lb] Good construction and suitable for wide angle lens (Tamron 17-50 mm f/2.8). It does reduce the light through the lens by about two stops so you have to use it in bright sun. It cannot be used with the lens hood attached, but that is true for all polarizers.

[Glass] I bought this circular polarizer for use on my new Canon EF-S 18-200 f3.5-5.6 lens. I purchased it because it was made for wide-angle lenses, it was made by a Tiffen, a company I trust for quality filters, and because it was very competitively priced compared to other available filters. I have not been disappointed. There is no light fall off from the center of the images to the edges, color saturation is excellent, and there has been no degradation in photo sharpness. The only disadvantage to this polarizer is that its outer ring is thin (in part because this is a filter for wide-angle lenses), too thin for the lens cap to fix to. So if want to have the lens cap on, the polarizer has to come off first. An inconvenience, but one I can easily live with given that it works so well at wide-angle settings and delivers such nice images.

[Aluminum] What can I say, using the the lens at 22mm I have dark corners if I use a regular the CP on top of the UV. If you don't mind exchanging one with the other, then is not a big deal, for me, this is my main lens, and I try to keep the front element at it's best. That's why I decided on this low profile CP. The CP works perfectly, I used it for some shots in PA, they came out great, the saturation and sky were almost unreal. Build quality is excellent, better than other tiffen CP's I've had in the past. Please note you NEED to buy a snap on lens cap, it has no front thread.

[Aluminum] An excellent redesign of Tiffen's round pola which reduces the the possibility of vignetting on wide angle lenses.

[0.195 lb] Circular polarizing filters are a no brainer; everyone should have one for every lens size they use. Where there is light, there will be reflections, and you'll likely need a polarizer. That being said, Tiffen is a quality filter that won't break the bank and will provide years of good service. I'm still using Tiffen filters I purchased more than 25 years ago. This one is no different. Clear glass, solid construction, great value. I had the chance to meet a Tiffen representative once, many years ago, and we had a nice chat about filters, light wavelengths, refraction and filmmaking. I found out later that the rep was Nat Tiffen, himself.
