Ideal for tabletop and product photography, this 12" Matthews MICROgrip 12" Rod 3/8"-16 Male to Malefrom Matthews, with 3/8"-16 male to 3/8"-16 male ends, is part of a broad range of products developed around the MICROgrip head, which provides all features of its 2-1/2" counterpart in a smaller form factor. The threaded rod can be joined with matching 3/8"-16 threaded rods to create various lengths. Other accessories in the system include weighted bases, clips, scrims, flags, and sandbags.

Q: 1. How thick is the rod. Is this 10mm and able to be used with the Feiyu AK follow focus II

A: The MicroGrip Rod is 3/8" which converts to 9.525mm. Not familiar with the specs of the Feiyu AK follow focus II.

Q: 2. Is this made of aluminium or steel ?

A: It feels heavy and durable enough to be steel or an alloy. It is not as flexible or soft as aluminum would feel. I put a spigot on each end and use 8 and 12 rods to locate a flash unit inside a flash modifier and extend the reach between a light stand adaptor and the flash, to put it's articulation outside the modifier ... works great!

Q: 3. Will these grip 5/8 rod properly?

A: Micro grip heads except a 3/8 DIA. rod so a 5/8 will not fit.

Q: 4. What's the weight capacity of these?

A: The load capacity of the Matthews MICROgrip Basic Kit BH #MAMGBK will vary depending on the orientation and configuration of the components.

Q: 5. Can this be used to hold a camera in the overhead position? / . Anyone know the load capacity?

A: Apart from a GoPro of small 360cam, no. Maybe a Sony6300

Q: 6. What's the diameter of the rods? Are they compatible with 15mm rod systems?

A: They are NOT compatable with 15mm rod systems. The rods are 3/8 in diameter.

Q: 7. Can this securely mount to the Matthews Hollywood baby jr light stand?

A: Yes, it fits any 5/8 baby pin with a 1/4-20 thread on the other end. It fits the babt pin both in line or perpendicular.

Q: 8. What material are these rod made of... Plastic or Aluminum or steel?

A: The MICROgrip rods are made of 3/8 steel material.

Q: 9. Can you remove the 3/8 male threads to make it female? or is it fixed?

A: The set screw is not designed to be removed. It is fixed into place with red locktite and would require a torch to loosen and remove.

Q: 10. For the 3/8" -16 rods, they cannot be joined together like the 1/4"-20 rods, right?

A: The Matthews MICROgrip Rod (20") is like the smaller rods but uses a 3/8 inch thread not the smaller 1/4 thread.

[0.14 lb] Sturdy quality rod that works perfectly. I use it to raise my Ricoh Theta Z1 up above the tripod plate allowing me access to the micro USB port underneath the camera so I can power it on an auxiliary battery. 5

[0.14 lb] I use this to add support cameras on hoods, doors and fenders for action shots. I also use it to support large diaphragm microphones to the inside of the windshield for an onsite recording booth for VO narratives. Also use with suction cups and mini ball heads. 5

[0.14 lb] Actually, both ends are threaded so you can put a set screw in either end, I replaced the male set screw with a shorter one to hold a go pro without looking funky with thread sticking out. Love these, there is a whole range of lengths. 5

[0.14 lb] I'm using these to get my desk mounted constellation sensors a little higher off the desk with little fuss or muss. This allows me to get better tracking for the Oculus Rift. They work very well. 5
