A: No, it is not compatible. It is a bayonet hood, it doesn't have a filter thread - it will not work with the Panasonic lens.

Q: 2. Recommended ND Filter?We just got this lens and we plan to use it with our Sony A7S II in Slog3 mode. Since Slog3 has a minimum 1600 IS0 issue, we surely need an ND filter for even late evening shots. I wanted to ask if you would suggest a budget ND filter compatible with this lens. It would be nice to be able use it both in the daytime and early in the evening.

A: The Tiffin ND are great. Both from quality and price prospective.

Q: 3. Is this compatible for Sony FE35mm f2.8 ZA lens?

A: Yes, it should work, though it will look very big on this lens.

Q: 4. In one review video, a guy showed an interesting front protector for this lens - a 49mm filter adapter whose outer diameter is exactly the same as the diameter of the lens body. It was some kind of vintage thing that is no longer in production. Any idea what kind of modern adapter might serve this purpose?

A: We don't have such a device--we only have 49mm protective filters for this lens.

Q: 9. Is there a way to set the focus distance from meters to feet on this lens? I am using it on the the AR7II. I cannot find a menu setting to change that anywhere. I know on the Batis lenses one can turn the focussing ring but that does not work on this lens. I am trying to figure out hyperfocal distances and I do have an app but I find it difficult to keep switching back to meter distances.

A: Unfortunately, it does not appear that this is a possible function using this lens.

Q: 10. How does this lens do with videography such as weddings and interviews?

A: It's a great lens for video. I've used it for interviews, promos, and other such things. Great in low light and a really crisp image. Should be perfect for weddings. Only downside is that it doesn't have IS, so be careful when you are shooting handheld.

[0.1 lb] This standard fixed zoom lens is very sharp even with full aperture f/1.8. The optical quality is consistently supreme from f/1.8 to f/22, which most of other 50mm lens can not beat. I own a Canon 50mm f/1.2L, but that is not comparable even with aperture goes down to f/1.8. Except the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4, so far this is the second best standard fixed zoom lens I have seen. Given its price and weight, Zeiss has done an amazing job! 5

[Bayonet] I have primarily used the lens for landscape work and some portraits. I bought this lens to compliment the 35 FE as well; I needed something longer and the 55mm fit perfect for my needs. I'm using the lens on the Sony A7R and the files are incredibly sharp especially stopped down. It has been coined the Otus lite by some and seeing specs for both I would agree. It's a very sharp lens. I don't worry about getting another stop out of it because I shoot at higher apertures mostly. The focus ring is very sensitive, it's easy to move it out of focus if you're not paying attention but that would be my only gripe. The 35mm is more stiff, which helps keep focus. It's built very well too. I really like the 35mm FE 2.8 because I enjoy the focal length but this lens exceeds another lens I have in terms of sharpness. If something happened to my 55, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. 5

[Bayonet] This lens definitely lived up to its Zeiss name! Superbly sharp across all aperture and from center to edges. The bokeh is very nice and smooth as a 55mm lens and the colors look great. I actually bought this lens instead of the 35mm and have not regretted it yet. 5

[Bayonet] I'm an old school photojournalist guy that back in the 80's would never have been caught dead with a 50mm lens of any kind. As I learned to do environmental portraits, especially in tight spaces later on doing corporate work, I discovered the 50 as a great lens for medium portraits and even for sports coverage. I really struggled pulling the trigger on a $1000 50mm lens but I did it and have not regretted the purchase. The 55 Sonnar constantly produces breathtakingly sharp images that even my clients notice. Hitting the zoom button on my A7 and A6000 is a pleasure as it's always shocking to see what kind of resolution you get even at 400%, on a preview image. The lens is not only sharp but also has excellent contrast and makes it easier in post to get the snappy images I like to make. combined with Sony's recent sensors, which are really great, the 55 combo on my A7 is a really nice way to work. I find myself reaching for the 55 on jobs when maybe I shouldn't--finding excuses to use it when another lens might be more appropriate. In short, it's worth the cash and I have no regrets... 5
