The McDSP SPC2000 v6 Compressor Plug-In Downloadfrom McDSP SPC2000 v6 Compressor Plug-In Downloadis a serial/parallel compressor that offers the flexibility of the classic CompressorBank plug-in by McDSP, but uses the two, three, and four stage configurations of which the routing combinations can emulate any other compressor. It can be used on Mac and Windows computers by producers, engineers, and musicians for applications such as broadcast TV, films, recording studios, and more.

The SPC2000 is 3 Plug-Ins; the SPC202 is a two-stage configuration, the SPC303 is a three-stage configuration, and the SPC404 is a four-stage configuration. In addition, each compressor in the SPC2000 uses algorithms and controls giving the user complete control of the dynamic compression.

Some other features of the SPC2000 includes common controls such as an output (make-up gain), a threshold, a compression (ratio), an attack, and a release, as well as non-standard knee and BITE controls, which allow the articulation of compression characteristics in unique and exciting ways. The multiple peak detection circuits provide a flexibility previously achieved only by owning different compression units.

The Native plug-ins provide AAX-Native for use with Pro Tools, but also includes Audio Units and VST versions for use with other DAWs including Logic, Digital Performer (DP), Cubase, and Ableton Live.

Q: 1. Hi, I want to hook up my 'main inserts’ from my mixer into a compressor to apply a global limiter. Where are the ins&outputs?

A: Any 500 Series units like the DBX 560A Compressor / Limiter require a 500 Series chassis to supply the I/O for the module. You will need a unit like B&H # RUR6.

Q: 2. What are the system requirements? I want to make sure it will work on my system.

A: The system requirements for the SONARWORKS SoundID Reference for Speakers & Headphones Plug-In and App are macOS 10.14 to 12 or later or Windows 10 to 11 or later.

Q: 3. Does this supply phantom power?

A: I doubt that it supplies phantom power as it appears to be intended only for line level circuits, not mics. the selection choice is between pro (+4) and consumer (-10) levels for the rear panel XLRs

Q: 4. Can this be used to compress audio from drum mics in live recording?

A: Yes the Behringer MDX-4600V2 can be used for drum compression.

Q: 9. Will the ArtPro VLA II work in my home stereo behind a front end source for better sound?

A: The VLAII is a ok compressor, depending on your source instrument. I find it ok on vocal and acoustic guitar. There are much better compressors in the $500-$700 range. But it works and sounds good in general. Depends on your budget.

Q: 10. would an audio gate alone control help in a 4mic clip on mic situation that is very interactive?

A: First of all the gate function is designed to keep the signal muted until a level you choose to open the channel. This would not help the clip at all. If, on the other hand if you were to use the compressor side of the dbx you may be able to adjust the input and output to eliminate the clipping altogether. I would suggest adjusting the output of each channel so each channel will not exceed the headroom on the mixer, then send the combined signal into the dbx and use the compressor to clamp down on the signal a bit. There is training available for this. I am using my 266xs to make a talk show with four funny ladies, who laugh a lot and loudly fit into the available headroom while recording for broadcast. without the compressor the laughing just clips so badly the recordings are not able to be used.

Purchased it for voiceover work. I run it multiple times in DAW. One for 2.5khz and another for 4.8khz to reduce sibilance. It keeps the sound transparent while achieving its job. A great tool.
