The completely modular Chrosziel Cine.1 Triple-Stage Matte Box 15/19mmfrom Chrosziel Cine.1 Triple-Stage Matte Box 15/19mmis built to be strong yet lightweight to fit into your handheld or studio camera rig. Having a matte box on the front of your lens allows you more flexilbility in lighting your scene by blocking light sources just out of frame from directly entering the lens, which can cause the lens to flare, and introduce image artifacts. This particular iteration of the Cine.1 series can be mounted on 15 or 19mm rods, and is configured with three filter stages, which can be easily removed when not required by your production.

A top flag (also called an eyebrow) is included to block extraneous light from above. The flag folds in half for a smaller footprint when it's packed away. As an added touch, the flag has security holes which mate with safety latches on the matte box, preventing the flag from accidentally falling during installation.

The Cine.1 matte box housing is constructed from high-impact polymer blend. This material is very rigid and resistant to cracking, yet keeps the weight of the matte box down as to not unbalance your rig. The surround is constructed from aluminum

Using the multiple threaded mounting points, accessories such as side flags, rosettes, a filter catcher, and a top accessory plate, can be attached to expand the functionality of the Cine.1 matte box.

Q: 1. Is there a baseplate and rods that come with this? If not, which ones would work for this matte box with the USA mini?

A: This product does not include a baseplate or rods, however we do have a nice assortment of options to choose from. The Pyro AV URSA Mini Kit (B&H #PY0623) and Wooden Camera Blackmagic URSA Mini Unified Accessory Kit (B&H #WO226300) are nice solutions that offer a baseplate, rods and even a top handle. Or you could look at the Shoulder-Mount Kit for the URSA Mini (B&H #BLURSAMSK) and adding some 15mm rods to it (B&H #IKELE15R12).

Q: 2. What is the largest lens diameter this Matte Box will support? The kit lens on my Sony FS7 takes a 95mm filter thread. Will this lens fit into the back of the Matte Box?

A: Yes the IRIX Cine Matte box is designed to work with in the IRIX magnetic filter ecosystem. You can use the Irix MMS Magnetic Filters on any lens with the Irix Matte Box IQ and available adapters. That is why IRIX created the Irix Matte Box IQ. To let you attach and remove filters as quickly as possible. With the Irix Matte Box IQ, the Magnetic Mount (MMS) has been moved from the lens to the Matte Box, so you can enjoy all the benefits of Irix filters, no matter which lens is your favorite.

Q: 4. Can this Matte box hold a double width tray like for a 138mm filter or diopter?

A: The Chrosziel Matte Box 456-20 is designed for use with 2 individual filter trays, allowing rotation of each individual tray. A double thick tray would not fit with this configuration.

Q: 6. is this compatible with the Zeiss CP2 lenses?

A: This is compatible with all CP.2 lenses with the exception of the CP.2 50 mm/T2.1 Macro which has a front diameter of 134mm.

A: Yes it should. This should hold any 4x4" or 4x5.65" filter.

Q: 10. Can I use lenses with a diameter of 49mm in this mattebox or would there be any problem in?

A: Yes you can. This does have a universal Knickers for smaller lenses to block out light. You will need to have this matte box mounted on to a 15mm baseplate though.

[4.15 lb] I also have a smaller good matte box from Genus, but I love this carbon fiber mattebox from Lanparte. It can be used with a wide range of lenses from CP PL to DSLR lenses with a lot of diameter adaptors (donuts) included as well as a nun's jacket. All articulations are precisely engineered. Can be adjusted quickly in length and height to fit many configurations. I use it with a Black Magic Cinema Camera, a Nikon D800 and a GH4 with either a Sigma 18-35 or a Sony professional B4 zoom. Not a cheap one, but stands the quality of Chrossziel with a more reasonable tag. All knobs are positionned at the right place and the filter trays are very solid and handy. 5

[4.15 lb] I needed a matte box that was lighter than the RedRock unit, for handheld work. This was suggested to me to be the lightest one available that still had two full filter holders. It's design is really solid and it is well made. The donut solution is the best I've seen as well. Also the french flag / eyebrow folds in half to make it easier to pack and travel with. I'd buy this again if I ever needed a second one. 5

[150 mm Clamp] the cost can add up if you need all the various accessories, but I think the balance of design, weight and functionality on this MB is better than the rest. Quiet durable and handles serious usage, while also being simple and light weight. 5

[1x Top Flag] I had to exchange the first one I received due to a manufacturing default, the replacement is excellent. Really excellent quality, feels comparable to the Arri matte boxes I've used extensively in the past, but at a fraction of the price. Note that it does come with both nuns knickers and fixed doughnut rings for a variety of lens sizes. My only complaint would be that it's slightly heavier than expected (given the carbon fibre), but no more so that other professional solutions. 5

[360°] I have owned all the major brands of matte boxes over the years and I settle on ARRI. Best matte box on the market. If you do any kind of handheld work you will appreciate the lightweight, modularity, and of course quality of the LMB 4x5. The only thing I can complain about is the cost of the top flag for the 4x5, but you're going to buy it anyway so suck it up, lol. 5
