The completely modular Chrosziel Cine.1 Dual-Stage 19mm Matte Boxfrom Chrosziel Cine.1 Dual-Stage 19mm Matte Boxis built to be strong yet lightweight to fit into your handheld or studio camera rig. Having a matte box on the front of your lens allows you more flexilbility in lighting your scene by blocking light sources just out of frame from directly entering the lens, which can cause the lens to flare, and introduce image artifacts. This particular iteration of the Cine.1 series can be mounted on 19mm studio rods, and is configured with two filter stages, however, it can be configured to hold either one or three filters with addition or removal of filter stages.

A top flag (also called an eyebrow) is included to block extraneous light from above. The flag folds in half for a smaller footprint when it's packed away. As an added touch, the flag has security holes which mate with safety latches on the matte box, preventing the flag from accidentally falling during installation.

Chrosziel's swing-away arm assembly enables faster lens changes by conveniently moving the matte box out of the way of the lens. In addition to providing swing-away functionality, the assembly has joints which allow you to tilt the matte box to avoid filter reflections, as well as slide it horizontally and vertically when fitting it to your lens, compensating for possible inconsistencies found in complex rigging scenarios.

The Cine.1 matte box housing is constructed from high-impact polymer blend. This material is very rigid and resistant to cracking, yet keeps the weight of the matte box down as to not unbalance your rig. The surround is constructed from aluminum

Using the multiple threaded mounting points, accessories such as side flags, rosettes, a filter catcher, and a top accessory plate, can be attached to expand the functionality of the Cine.1 matte box.

Q: 1. Is it possible to use the IRIX matte box with the IRIX PHOTO lenses to use the magnetic mount system filters?

A: Yes the IRIX Cine Matte box is designed to work with in the IRIX magnetic filter ecosystem. You can use the Irix MMS Magnetic Filters on any lens with the Irix Matte Box IQ and available adapters. That is why IRIX created the Irix Matte Box IQ. To let you attach and remove filters as quickly as possible. With the Irix Matte Box IQ, the Magnetic Mount (MMS) has been moved from the lens to the Matte Box, so you can enjoy all the benefits of Irix filters, no matter which lens is your favorite.

Q: 2. does it works for the URSA mini? thanks

A: Generally, there is a lag time from when a new camera is released and when 3rd party manufacturers can release corresponding products that match. At this time, Chroszeil has not listed a kit specifically for the Blackmagic Mini. So while I would say that the Chrosziel 450-R2 Matte Box and Follow Focus Kit for Blackmagic Cinema Camera & Production Camera 4K probably will work for the Mini, I cannot say that it will work without issue. My concern is will the base be the right height since the matte box is not height adjustable. We will not know for sure until Chroszeil has an opportunity to test the arrangement.

Q: 3. I've got 80mm front diameter lenses. I wish to use this MB directly on the rods. What kind of donught can i use to block the rear light? Thanks,

A: For speed and convenience, I would suggest rather than a doughnut, useing this Movcam Universal Stretch Donut (130 mm) B&H # MOARU130 Mfr # MOV-301-0202MM2.

Q: 4. Can additional filter stages/trays be added? what about a 138 retaining ring?

A: No, the Chrosziel MB 450W Super Wide Matte Box can only support two filter trays and it is not compatible with 138 retaining rings.

Q: 5. Can I use lenses with a diameter of 49mm in this mattebox or would there be any problem in?

A: Yes you can. This does have a universal Knickers for smaller lenses to block out light. You will need to have this matte box mounted on to a 15mm baseplate though.

Q: 6. I cannot find the two filter trays which were included into the Shape Matte box I bought some time ago. Do you know if it is possible to buy new filter trays separately? Or if it is possible to use other?

A: This is compatible with all CP.2 lenses with the exception of the CP.2 50 mm/T2.1 Macro which has a front diameter of 134mm.

Q: 9. What dimensions of filter fit into the trays? I'm not accustomed to the circular filters for matte boxes. Would they work with 72mm circular lens filters?

A: The trays are not for circular filters, you can use 4x4 filters.

Q: 10. Can this be adjusted up and down from the rails to centre the lens?

A: No, The Chrosziel MB 450W Super Wide Matte Box 15mm rod mount does not offer height adjustment. The Mattebox uses the worldwide industry standard for Rod mounting.

[1x Top Flag] I also have a smaller good matte box from Genus, but I love this carbon fiber mattebox from Lanparte. It can be used with a wide range of lenses from CP PL to DSLR lenses with a lot of diameter adaptors (donuts) included as well as a nun's jacket. All articulations are precisely engineered. Can be adjusted quickly in length and height to fit many configurations. I use it with a Black Magic Cinema Camera, a Nikon D800 and a GH4 with either a Sigma 18-35 or a Sony professional B4 zoom. Not a cheap one, but stands the quality of Chrossziel with a more reasonable tag. All knobs are positionned at the right place and the filter trays are very solid and handy. 5

[Yes] I have long wanted a matte box, if for no other reason than to act as a maximum shield against flare. Because of the three bar doors, one on top and two on each side, this product does that job well. The build quality is very good, and includes several foam rings to help fit different lenses of various barrel widths. This will dovetail nicely with my SHAPE Composite shoulder-mount rig, which came with rails onto which this will slide. And it contains two filter holders, of course, as any matte box should. They rotate as well, making them useful for graduated filters. I find this Candian company to provide good quality products at the right price. Many matte boxes on the market today are very overpriced. Shape does not fall into that category. The device came needing a little assembly. However, there were no instructions. But a call to the company yielded a competent person who walked me through the final assembly. 5

[Yes] I purchased the 203 version of this follow focus (one generation back) secondhand and immediately I noticed the modern design and solid quality. The thing that sets a professional follow focus apart from the lesser expensive versions is the machining tolerances. Chrosziel manufactures this unit with very low tolerances meaning there are no gaps or wiggle room where there shouldn't be. The gearing mechanism is smooth and performs as expected. The marking discs click into place with a satisfying snap. The knob handle is large enough to firmly grab onto but not overbearingly large. It has a slim profile and fits well into cases etc. Don't skimp on getting a cheap follow focus, it's an integral part of what makes a movie, focus! 5

[360°] I had to exchange the first one I received due to a manufacturing default, the replacement is excellent. Really excellent quality, feels comparable to the Arri matte boxes I've used extensively in the past, but at a fraction of the price. Note that it does come with both nuns knickers and fixed doughnut rings for a variety of lens sizes. My only complaint would be that it's slightly heavier than expected (given the carbon fibre), but no more so that other professional solutions. 5

[360°] the cost can add up if you need all the various accessories, but I think the balance of design, weight and functionality on this MB is better than the rest. Quiet durable and handles serious usage, while also being simple and light weight. 5

[150 mm Clamp] It holds 6-7 cards plus 4-5 notes. Easy to access any card you need while keeping the overall thickness very low. Like the design. 5

[1x Top Flag] This extension works as expected. One thing to note is that with only 2 stages and the mattebox rolled back, you still have access to the swing away release pin. With a 3rd stage and the mattebox rolled back, the pin is covered so you'll need to always roll the mattebox forward in order to have access to the pin. That's not a big deal at all but something to be aware of. Otherwise, this 3rd stage works like the others and it's brilliant. I love the tray catch functionality. The front-most stage is a little tighter but that might be because of the way I installed it. Again, not a big deal. Really awesome mattebox and the filters/stages work well. I love that the trays accept 4x4 filters AND 4x5.65 filters. The 4x4 filters stay in place and hold well. If you're using 100mm filters (2mm thick instead of 4mm thick), you'll have to modify them as the filter trays won't hold them. The filters will be too small. Again, not a big deal, as this mattebox was meant to be used with 4x4 and 4x5.65 filters so if you stick to that, it works REALLY well. 5
