Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are the 1/4 inputs balanced or unbalanced?

A: You may want to down load the data sheet or manual for the 1502. I can't say for sure but I think they are balanced.

Q: 2. How loud are the fans when playing at high volumes?

A: The fan used is specified at 28.3 db/A. An engineer at Crown did a test and was getting between 71 and 75 dB right at the fan, and about 45-55 dB at 1 meter. The test was done in a lab with multiple amps and DSPs running in the background as well; so the unit alone would be much quieter.

Q: 3. I am thinking of running the amps in bridged mode, can put one amp on top of the other without causing heating problems. I don't have a rack.

A: For proper venting, it would be best to leave them side by side if you don't have a rack.

Q: 4. I saw in pics that it's has some kind of selector For 220v, it's multivoltage?thanks!

A: Unfortunately, the Crown Audio XLS 1002 does not feature a worldwide power supply. They come factory set to work in the region in which they have been sold to; in our case, North America. The marking in the back with the various voltage selections are just an indicator of the options available through crown, but are most definitely marked by region.

Q: 5. what will be the RMS wattage be with 6 ohm speakers, eg, cerwin vega xls 15 ?

A: Crown has not provided wattage ratings for 6 ohms, but they do list ratings for 4 and 8 ohms. We can use the specs listed for peak wattage to calculate RMS wattage at 4 and 8 ohms. 6 ohms is going to be right in the middle so you can get a better idea of how it would perform with your speaker. At 4 ohms, the XLS 2502 is rated at 775W per channel and 2400W bridged for peak power, which works out to approximately 550W per channel and 1700W bridged for RMS power at 4 ohms. At 8 ohms, the XLS 2502 is rated at 440W per channel and 1550W bridged for peak power, which works out to approximately 310W per channel and 1100W bridged for RMS power at 8 ohms.

Q: 6. Is that 775watts at hz or khz?

A: Neither. The power rating for an amplifier is not related to the frequency response. The 775 Watt power rating for the Crown XLS 2502 Stereo Power Amplifier is for each channel when the amp is operating at 4 Ohms. This means the amp will deliver 775 Watts to each channel to drive a 4 Ohm speaker. The maximum power the amp can output will vary depending on the impedance of the speakers that are connected. With an 8 Ohm speaker the amp delivers 440 Watts per channel and with a 2 Ohm speaker the amp delivers 1200 Watts per channel. When speakers with lower impedance ratings are use the amp will deliver higher amounts of power.

Q: 7. What is the actual amperage draw for this amplifier?

A: At this time, that specification is not listed by the manufacturer.

Q: 8. How does this compare to the xli800?

A: This XLS 1002 provides built in DSP, specifically a band pass filter per channel, an integrated crossover system, and limiters. As well, this amp also provides through connections for linking multiple amps together.

Q: 9. Does it do summing in bridge mode to thru both channels from satellite unit to subwoofer unit?

A: No. When using the Crown Audio XLS 1002 Stereo Power Amplifier in bridge mode, the power of both amp channels is summed into a single channel, so only one output is available.

Q: 10. The ratings for output is that RMS watts?

A: No that is peak watts.

[< 0.5% ] One of these drives 2 paralleled pairs of Behringer B212 speakers to ungodly levels without noise or distortion. Always stays cool, can't hear the fan at all even standing near the rack. Couldn't ask for a better amp for the money.

[1.4 Vrms ] I actually bought this amp to power my tough-to-drive home speakers (electrostatics). The bass control is amazing, and unlike so many PA amps, this one has very smooth mids and treble. Just flat, the way an amp should be. Class D is the new black. Oh yeah, and it runs cool as a cucumber.

[> 103 dB] Using this for bass amp. Have an Ampeg SVT Pro pre-amp running into it. Using it bridged.

[11.6 lb] Great, update from XLS Series 1. I have upgraded from the XLS1000 for my bass rig. I needed a little more headroom so I opted for this XLS1502 and I'm glad I did. The feature I find most useful is the added selection of frequencies in the High Pass filter section. The selections go down to I think 33Hz. I'm using the HP filter at 38.5 Hz which is about as low as my 15 in. speaker can can reproduce. Another nice newly added feature is the adjustable display and panel light settings. You can now adj the front panel indicators/lights to your liking. This is my 3rd Light weight digital amp, and my favorite for features, ease of use and clean power. B&H got it to me very quickly. They got it on the truck same day (hour) that I ordered it.

[11.6 lb] Using two of these in a church theater production (medium sized hall). More than enough power to drive 4-6 ohm speakers. Outstanding sound. Very quiet. Pre-purchase research was confirmed.

[2] While I cannot attest to the longevity of this product since I've only had it for a month, it has met or exceed my expectations in all other aspects. It's amazing how such a small & lightweight amplifier can produce such balanced & crystal clear sound. I've used this amplifier with three different sets of speakers and it has made a noticeable improvement in sound quality compared to other power amps in this price range I've used in the past. While my main use case for this product is in live sound applications, I wouldn't hesitate to use it for a home theatre or HI-FI setup as it's so small and virtually silent.

[> 200] This is the third of these amps I've bought-- this one for the home studio monitoring system. The other two are used for an annual broadway musical I do sound for and Crown just makes a superior product.

[11.6 lb] Just got the Crown XLS 1502, and have been auditioning it all day. I went from Denon POA-4400A monoblock amps (manufactured 1991) to the Crown. The Class AB monoblocks produce 160 watts at 8 ohms, and weigh in at a hefty 23 pounds each. The Crown weighs only 8.6 pounds, and is a lot easier to move around than the monoblocks. Pros: The additional 3 db of headroom is nice to have in a 400 square foot garage. I don't see myself actually using 300 watts, but the additional headroom is a plus to avoid speaker clipping. The Crown produces little heat, and the fan is inaudible. My audition included a variety of DDD compact discs. Preamplifier (Pioneer SPEC 1 manufactured 1981) set to tone OFF. The Crown does what a good amplifier should: percussion clean and crisp, vocals uncolored, bass frequencies distinct with plenty of thump. This is my second Class D amplifier (Sony A/V Receiver inside the house), and I am sold on Class D amplifiers: great power, runs cool and considerable weight savings. The Denon monoblocks served me well for 26 years. Let's see if the Crown XLS 1502 lasts 26 years.

[21 x 12 x 6"] I purchased this amplifier to replace my Crown DC 300 that had developed some distortion after 41 years in service with no maintenance whatsoever. That's correct, 41 years. Naturally, I chose to purchase another Crown product. The XLS 1502 is a very capable product - plenty of power and a clean sound. Compared to the 30 lb. plus weight of the DC 300, the XLS 1502 at 10 lbs. is a welcome relief on my back. I use the XLS 1502 in a home stereo system. The 1502 has greater power output and cost me about 50% less to purchase.
