Utilizing a multi-layer coating process for consistent color rendition from lens to lens, the Samyang 100mm T3.1 VDSLRII Cine Lens for Sony Eanswers the challenge of assembling a set of lenses over time. The lens comes in Sony E Mount, and it can focus down to 1' providing a 1:1 reproduction ratio for macro photography. It features industry standard geared focus and iris rings that share common position with other Samyang VDSLRII Lenses. To aid focus pullers who have to work both sides of the lens, the aperture and focus scales are marked on both sides of the lens.

This 100mm lens produces a 24.8° angle-of-view when used with a full-frame sensor camera or a 35mm SLR. The 15 glass elements in 12 groups render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations, with a minimum focus distance of 1' from the lens. A removable lens hood provides flare protection when shooting without a matte box, and the lens's threaded front accepts 67mm filter rings.

Ultra Multi Coated lenses minimize flare and ghosting, and the lenses are color matched to a standard eliminating the need to acquire an entire set of lenses at the same time.

Industry-standard gearing for focus and aperture rings. Each lens in the Samyang VDSLRII series shares common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.

Declicked aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.

A removable lens hood provides flare protection without a matte box.

The lens opens up to T3.1, creating extremely shallow depth of field.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a filter solution for this lens?

A: You can use a mattebox with this lens to be able to use filters with it.

Q: 2. Does this lens suffer from the same focus issues wide open as the previous lens? (I.e. very soft at 1.5 and doesnt get sharp until 2.8?)

A: We looked and were not able to find the specific issue you are mentioning with this company's lenses. Generally speaking, the Samyang/Rokinon lenses are remarkable values. Generally customers are very happy with the image and build quality particularly for the price they are paying. I would say that the general rule of thumb that any lens is sharper, has better contrast and color 2 stops down from wide open, applies here. That being said, I don't think you will see a great difference here.

Q: 3. is it comaptible with Nikon D650 ?

A: Yes, the Samyang 85mm T1.5 VDSLRII Cine Lens for Nikon F Mount is compatible with the Nikon D610 DSLR Camera, the Nikon D750 DSLR Camera, and any Nikon DSLR camera that accepts offers the Nikon F Mount.

Q: 4. will this lens fit on my sony nex 5t?

A: Yes, this lens will fit because it is an E-Mount lens and will fit on any E-Mount camera with either a Full Frame or APS-C/Super 35mm sensor.

Q: 5. Are the gears on the Samyang the same as the Rokinon Cine DS line? Will I be able to swap without adjusting my follow focus like the Cine DS?

A: The gears on both Samyang and Rokinon Cinema Lenses are the standard 0.8 pitch gears. However the position of those gears on the lenses may change from lens to lens. You may need to adjust your follow focus when switching lenses.

Q: 6. Are the lens optics, coatings and build quality of the Samyang 14mm T3.1 VDSLRII identical to the Rokionon 14mm T3.1 DS lens?

A: The lenses are made in the same factory by the same people. If there are significant differences between the two lenses, they have yet to come to light.

Q: 7. what is diferent about mark II and mark I lens?

A: The Mark II (Mk 2) versions feature revised placement of the focus and aperture gearing so that they are consistent with the other cine lenses made by the manufacturer.

Q: 8. What is the difference with the Rokinon 35mm 1.5 Cine DS lens?

A: The Samyang 35mm T1.5 VDSLRII Cine Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount and the Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine DS Lens are both made by Samyang and are identical.

Q: 9. Is the gearing spacing (Iris, Focus) for this the same as Rokinon Cine DS lenses?

A: Considering the VDSLRII and DS models share the same design, the focus and iris spacing is similar.

Q: 10. If I purchased this lense for my Sony A7S, what would be the main difference between it (Samyang 35mm T1.5 VDSLRII) and the Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine AS UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount? I know that the differences are very, VERY subtle. I'm using it for professional film-making and I'm using an adapter.

A: Samyang is the company that makes Samyang, Rokinon and some Bower lenses. Of all these lenses, the Rokinon DS lenses, with their Dual Side focus markings and stricter coating color matching, are considered the top of the line. All the other lenses they make are below that and are the same quality since they they are all made by the same designs, materials and people. So in this case, we are of the opinion the Rokinon and Samyang 85mm have the same optical, mechanical, and build quality and the final question comes down to the brand name. Here Rokinon has the bigger reputation and you pay a little more for it. That has the added advantage that it will help when it comes to sell it.

[9] This is my fifth Rokinon / Samyang lens but this one is not tested yet. It's my second cinema lens, & looks perfect.

One of the others is an automatic focusing lens for Sony, 35mm f1.4, and I have the brick for firmware updates.
*
I've had good luck with 'Elite Brands' lenses and with an old history in manual photography, have no problem with that. My digital cameras provide highlight colour focus confirmation.

Good to deal with B&H. This completes my current orders, thank you!

[2.25 lb] Got this lens for my S1H with Edelkrone HeadOne and Focus. The combo works perfect and would recommend this lens.

[T32] I gave this lens my wall test today and it did well, continuing my good results with Elite Brands lenses. Resolution is even by t2.8 and vignetting is mostly gone by t4. The lens hoods even fit better.
With the handy Nisha macro attachment, the focus range of this Samyang 84mm lens is a few inches. I am using the 77mm Nisha.

[T3.1] Bought this lens to use with a Metabones adaptor on my JVC GY-LS 300. The lens feels substantial and well made, and the iris and focus rings are very smooth. The lens is sharp even at max aperture, but stopping down a bit improves the image overall. Great lens.

[T3.1] I got this lens specifically for video on my A7, but it works great for photography too. Image quality is off the charts for the price, and there is little to no breathing at all. Of course, it is a prime. I'm not big on the technical terms all I care about is the image and I have to say for the price I highly recommend this lens.

[9] And the hits keep coming. Beautiful 85mm. I have come to Samyang as my go to lens. Because for cinema Primes under 5k they cant be touched and they hold their own against lenses in that price range and even lenses higher.

[Sony E] This lens has some distortion as you would expect, but the image comes out sharp. I use this lens on a BMPCC 4k with a Metabones XL Speedbooster, which is a great combination.

[100mm] Five stars because of the price point for a 35mm full frame very wide 14mm cinema lens having a long focus throw and de-clicked aperture ring. I use this lens with a Meta Bones Speed Booster on a Sony FS7. It is not a fisheye lens, but there is some horizontal and vertical barrel distortion that can adjusted in post. I would not use this lens for architectural subjects unless the objective is to emphasize the curvature of lines at the edges of the frame. I did not detect any chromatic aberration and the lens was somewhat soft until stopped down to about T5.6 where it clearly resolved every line in my 8x10 Digital Image Flow LLC chart at the center and edges. I plan to use this lens in tight places outdoors, at the sea shore, and where there is cloud activity using time lapse. I recommend using this lens with a high resolution monitor like the Gratical Eye or HD, because the low resolution FS7 monitor displays significant moir which is not in the processed image.

[100mm] 35mm is a beautiful focal length, one of my favorites. The images from this lens are tack sharp and just look great. Matches up perfectly with all my other Samyang Cine lenses. Makes color grading so much easier because the color rendition is so similar between lenses. Smooth focus and aperture rings. Beautiful images! Highly Recommended!
