Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the outer dimension of this step up ring?

A: The outer diameter on the Sensei 82-95mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring is 98mm.

Q: 2. If I have a camera with a 30mm lens, and a 37mm fisheye, do I need a step up or step down ring?

A: If your filter/attachment is larger than your lens, it's a step-up. In this case, your fisheye attachment is 37mm and your lens' front diameter is 30mm, hence, you'd need a step-up ring.

Q: 3. What is the outside overall diameter of this ring in millimeters? I am trying to adapt this ring to fit a NiSi M75 filter holder, so it needs to fit inside the 85 mm diameter recess of the holder.

A: The outer diameter of the Sensei 77-82mm Step-Up Ring is 84mm. However, I unfortunately cannot confirm if it would be directly compatible for use with the NiSi M75 75mm Filter Holder.

Q: 4. ok so I am planing on purchasing filter with 77mm thread and I want to also use it on a 58mm and 67mm threaded lenses so would the 58-77mm step up work for all 3 lenses? 67 being in the middle? Or do I need 2 separet step up filters? One 58-77mm and one 67-77mm

A: Dear friend, the reason to buy a bigger filter for smaller lens is to avoid vignetting at wide setting. For your case (filter 77mm / lenses 58mm and 67mm) you need two step-up rings. One from 58 77 and another from 67 77. To save one ring you must buy a 67mm filter and use to the 58 lens with step-up ring and as it is to your other lens (67mm diameter). I hope I have solved your problem.

Q: 5. What lens cap do i need to fit this ring?

A: This is a step up ring to fit a larger filter into smaller diameter lens. So to answer your question the lens cup will need to be 77mm.

Q: 6. Can this be used in a 114 Matte Box? Hypothetically want to take a Sigma Art Lens and used a Bright Tangerine Mistfit Atom.

A: The Sensei 72-95mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring allows you to connect a lens with a 72mm front thread to a 95mm thread adapter ring. Unfortunately, you cannot replace the adapter ring for the matte boxes with a step-up ring because they are designed as a proprietary system.

Q: 7. Will this fit on the E-60 leica 35-70 f/4 R lens?

A: Yes, Sensei 60-67mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring should fit on the Leica 35-70 f/4 R lens.

Q: 8. Hey there! Can you stack rings to put 82mm filters on a 58mm diameter lens? Thanks;)

A: Yes these step up rings are stackable if the female-male diameters match.

Q: 9. I have a 77 mm promist filter but I need to adapt it to my 95 mm lenses (28-70mm), is it possible with this adapater?

A: This adapter would not work. You are looking for a step-down adapter instead of a step-up adapter. I do not recommend this though, as it will cause a severe vignette of the image.

Q: 10. If I have a camera with a 30mm thread size, and a 37mm fisheye, do I need a step-up or step-down ring?

A: If your filter/attachment is larger than your lens, it's a step-up. In this case, your fisheye attachment is 37mm and your lens' front diameter is 30mm, hence, you'd need a step-up ring.

[58 mm to 60 mm] I am stepping up from a Caivision 85mm clamp on to 95 mm thread adapterto fit a 105 mm metal B+W wide angle lens hood. I first tried a * General Brand made by Bower and it wouldn't even fit. It was much less expensive but very badly made. The Heliopan has a matte finish and it easily screws on and off and on again.

[58 mm to 60 mm] Bit weighty

[58 mm to 60 mm] This step up ring is built to tight tolerances, made of solid brass, so it doesn't bind when the temperature changes like cheaper aluminum. Good buy, slightly pricey, but I expect to have it for a long time.

[58 mm to 60 mm] extremely solid and well made. the only things I neglected to think about were: 1) you, obviously, need a new lens cap :) and 2) the shrouds that come with your lens will not easily fit over the new, wider, mouth. so, you need to buy both of these to fit a 77 mm mouth... again, obviously :)

[0.04 lb] Step up 20mm pancake lens to fit light ring and mattebox. It's brass, so it should never bind. This thing is pricey, but at the time that I ordered it, no other manufacturer offered this product.I like this product...

[58 mm to 60 mm] There are not many heavy duty 52-77mm step rings out there, most are plastic or aluminum. This is brass and is seriously sturdy. You could probably use is as an improvised gardening trowel and it would be none the worse for wear. On the downside, it's heavier than any other step ring you've ever seen. I use it on a Fuji 240mm view camera lens. But by the time you pack everything needed for a view camera, the additional weight is not notable and you have a step ring that is not going to bind to a filter, short of catastrophic destruction. The other downside is that it's so good that it's remarkably expensive, but if you plan on using it for decades, it's not really that expensive. I have no doubt that it will outlast me! I have heard that brass transmits shock instead of deforming like aluminum or plastic. At the risk of cursing myself, I will say that in nearly 40 years of photography I've never dropped a lens. :-) But if you're the kind of person who drops lenses, well, you may want a bit more of an airbag. Personally, I think this unit is worth the bucks and I'm more concerned about a filter binding than I am about dropping a lens and in that regard, the Heliopan is a winner.

[58 mm to 60 mm] This step up ring is better constructed than most, the tolerance are spot on.

[Brass] Well made of quality materials and best of all it doesn't stick to my other filters when changing from one filter to another.
