Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you add wheels to these cases? I see an area on the bottom corner where there is velcro. Wondering if an axleand wheels can be threaded through that space and if the velcro is strong enough to hold?

A: You can actually select to have the weels included. They slip into the side with the taller front pocket (right side on the item default picture). There is also a handle that comes included for the case and you carry it similar to a rolling tripod case. For clarification, the FS7 sits on the high side when carrying on wheels, closer to the handle side you hold while wheeling it.The wheels BTW do not have a solid axle. They are on studs. I was a little worried but I ahve my bag LOADED and it has held up pretty well.

Q: 2. Hi There, My rig consist of a Sony Shoulder Mount, Fujinon MK 50-135mm lens and the Sony XDCA-FS7 Extension Unit. You think the bag is long enough to handle my rig? Thanks

A: Yep, i have the same setup with the 18-55mm Fujinon and a Mattebox/rails combo and it just fits.

Q: 3. is this case carry-on approved?

A: The basic rule for carry on is Baggage may not exceed 45 linear inches (or 114 cm) in combined length, width and height, including any handles and wheels. The combined dimensions for this bag is 51.5 thus excluding it from carry on. Most likely the course you should take is look at backpacks suitable for your camera in the Accessories tab on the camera's B&H site. Also check with each airline before buying tickets.

Q: 4. Will a laptop fit in this bag?

A: Depending on what additional items are stored with it, with interior dimensions of 16 x 10 x 7.25" then a laptop (depending on its dimensions) can easily fit, but no dedicated compartment is included on this particular bag.

Q: 5. Will this fit with an FS7 mark I with zacuto shoulder mount and arri top plate?

A: It should fit, but may be a bit tight.

Q: 6. what is the country of origin for this item?

A: The country of Origin for this item is the United States of America.

Q: 7. Will this rain cover accommodate a shotgun mic attached to the Z150?

A: Porta Brace must have changed the design because what I received is NOT what is pictured. There is a cover for he shotgun mic that is part of this design. This is easier to get on compared to what I have read and I have read numerous reviews. Having said that, this design is way too simplistic and Im wondering if thats why B&H lowered the price as much. Need to see if Canon 400(or 300s) have comparable designs.

Q: 8. When it says a "fully assembled" fx9 will fit, does that mean including the XDCA extension unit?

A: Yes, the "fully assembled," Sony PXW-FX9 XDCAM 6K Full-Frame Camera System with XDCA and Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Full-Frame Power Zoom Len can be attached and fit into the PortaBrace Quick-Draw Camera Case for Sony PXW-FX9 (Black).

Q: 9. Will this also fit the Sony FX6?

A: NO it will NOT fit the FX6

Q: 10. Will the Shape remote arm fit under this rain cover?

A: Yes, there should be enough room to fit a Shape remote arm under this rain cover.

[Sony PXW-X500] This case is really the only thing out there that works well for the FS-7. It is extremely roomy and allows you to store the camera fully setup so that all you have to do is reposition the grip and start shooting. I would like to see some pick and pluck foam included for the price so you can create custom inserts for your needs. It is expensive, but if it protects the camera, it's worth it.

[2.8 lb] Do you have the XDCA with a brick and wireless link on the back?
This is the cover you need.
Easy access to battery and rear wireless.
Also includes the removable cover for the FS-7's extension arm.
I'm using the Zacuto base plate, so my SHAPE extension arm is mounted a little forward of the camera's native mount, but it still works. (though it is a little tight)
I'm also using the Zacuto Axis mini for my eye piece and this cover fits it nicely as well.
High quality and well made.

[Sony PXW-X500] I made this work with my C300 & Gratical finder. I mount the LCD on the back of a shoulder plate, so the camera is not so tall, and more weight is near the back. This rain cover worked pretty well with the EVF, lens, and camera parts in this configuration.

[2.8 lb] One of those purchases that you will know it if you need it, total specialty item. Purchased this for filming skiing and snowboarding in the backcountry with lots of exposure to fresh powder and cold temps. This cover is great to keep moisture and snow away from the camera and utilizing hand-warmer inserts to keep both your hand warm on the hand grip as well as the battery area and camera in general. The fleece lined hand openings are fantastic. The Velcro is bombproof, but does require two hands to open some flaps, so if one hand in inside holding the side grip, you may have to pull it out to use both hands to open a flap to hit other buttons. Short lenses with manual aperture can be challenging to adjust as the lens opening part of the cover might be cinched around it and you have to make sure if pulling manual focus that the lens opening is not impeding that area of the lens as well. Plenty of openings and slots to allow external monitors and mounts, plus shotgun mics to be operated while using this cover. Between some shots I would ski while holding this cover and FS5 inside using a generic camera neck strap and the lens sticking out with a regular lens cap - instead I would prefer to get a soft cover lens cap that protects the entire lens from any snow pickup while on the move - that's about using the cover as a complete package and nothing to do with the cover alone. I'd buy it again.

[Yes] This bag fits my FX9 perfectly. My camera has the Tilta cage on it, and a quick-adjust rosette that pushes the handle out by an inch—still fits. I also don’t have remove the eye piece which is awesome. I do have to take the battery off which isn’t an issue to me. The additional compartments as great for AKS. I can fit a few gold mount batteries, small lenses, media cases and tools. I wouldn’t want this case to take up any more or less space—it’s the perfect size.

The materials feel high quality. It feels very snug and secure. I like that the lid can be secured with velcro, a buckle, and the handle/strap. That said, I’m not sure I’d be comfortable sending it on a plane as checked luggage. I’d prefer to have a high quality zipper instead of, or in addition to those options. I also like that it comes with its own accessories like a small flash light, white card, and lens bags.

It feels sturdy, and I feel comfortable stack another bag on top of it.

[2.8 lb] This is a great piece of kit that just does what it says it does - it protects your camera. It comes with a rain cover and pockets for your radio transmitters, or lunch, etc, and it just works. Which is great. Thanks portabrace

[Sony PXW-X500] Fantastic case, i use it with my fs7 with extension unit and a full movcam basekit on it. The only thing that has to come off the camera is the follow focus. The mattebox just manages to sneek into the case. A warning is that this case is huge - much larger than any other camera bag I've seen . It's great that the camera fits while built but the trade off is a very large case that's difficult to shoulder around. Quality is fantastic as always - there is a reason portabrace is used by every pro out there

[Yes] I've been looking for a case that would allow me to just drop in the Sony FX9 without disassembling the arms or viewfinder everytime. I'm used to the camera cases for the Sony ENG cameras where you can just grab the camera and go. This is the same problem I had with my old Sony FS7, none of the available cases let you keep the camera assembled for quick use. This is the first case I've found that allows you to that. Well allmost, I do have to raise the grip on the side of the camera to drop it in but the control grip arm can stay attached without any change. This is probably the closest I'm going to get to the perfect case for me.

[Sony PXW-X500] I wanted a relatively light weight bag with a hard shell that I could just put the whole camera in complete with Matte Box one end to a V Lock Battery pack the other, and also leave the view finder in place. A big ask maybe but this bag fills all the needs. Highly recommended.
