Sporting the large light bucket users have come to expect from a Dob, the dobsonian telescope astrophotographygives users great performance at a reasonable price. Its large parabolic Borosilicate primary mirror is treated with an aluminum coating that brings its reflectivity to over 94%, with a secondary mirror obstruction of just 5% by area. Unlike traditional Dobsonians that tend to be bulky and unwieldy, the Flextube's patented truss design allows it to retract to just 36" for easier transport and storage and extends to 55" with an impressive 1500mm focal length for observation.

[Yes] This is one of the most informative books I have seen on Astrophotography! Explained in detail everything you want to know and how to get those amazing, spectacular astrophotography shots you have been dreaming of but thought impossible or out of reach. Very clear and precise directions to the stars, galaxies, planets, and anything else you would want to look to the heavens to capture. Love this and I highly recommend this book to everyone interested in astrophotography!

[1500 mm] This style of scope gives the largest aperture I could handle by myself without spending a lot of money. I had none of the problems people reported with the earlier version. Everything works well without any modifications needed. Set up is easy enough, but there are a number of loose parts to keep track of. I think it will work well for the kind of use I will give it- I camp out on a hilltop and leave my scope set up all night. This is not a scope that you would take outside for a brief viewing. The set up is too cumbersome for that.

The mass-produced, tube Dobs can be a little bit cheaper and require little set-up, but you would need to step down in size if you transport it and use it by yourself. The premium Dobs set up quickly and are light enough to let you get a bigger scope, but the cost is higher than I was willing to pay. This Explore Scientific is a big scope at a realistic price.

[1500 mm] This is my first scope and am very happy with it. Not a fan of how the base assembles but it is sturdy after I applied glue to the joints. Tool-less mirror collimating is very handy. The red dot finder works well but kind of wish the brightness could go down a bit more. Unless you’re pointing at the moon, you can’t see anything but the dot in the viewfinder. Views are clear and after a little practice, easy to point and get on target. Looking forward to many nights observing with it.

[Yes, SynScan] I bought this scope as an upgrade to my etx 90. I felt I needed a bigger scope for deep sky objects. I have only had this scope out about four or five times and it is awesome jumping from a 3.5 in to an 8-in scope let me tell you.! I was worried about not having tracking but it's a different type of experience it's a freedom that you don't get with a scope that has tracking . I like the fact that you just kind of grab it and look at something you don't have to push any buttons you don't have to program anything you don't even have to use the starsense, if you see something in the sky you want to check out grab it and move it over there. My skies are not very dark around here but I was still able to make out m13 more of a smudge due to light polluted skies but it was still cool, Andromeda Galaxy looked real good and of course the moon Saturn and Jupiter looked amazing, I needed a filter for the moon, it way too bright. The scope is not very hheav to move especially if you separate the base carrying them out one at a time is fine. I like the knobs to adjust the tension you can get it just right. The starsense works good it's accurate to the point where it will put the object in or near the field of view of a 24 mm eyepiece but I think I need to align it better. We did try a little astrophotography using a Sony crop sensor camera in the 2-in section of the focuser ( we did not have enough focus adjustment using the 1.25 adaptor) and we took a real nice picture of Saturn. If you are on the fence go for it you will not be disappointed

[Yes, SynScan] Have only had the telescope a couple weeks with limited opportunities for stargazing, but with that in mind I have been very happy with the results. B/H price was competitive and shipping/delivery were perfect. Overall very pleased with my purchase, would recommend.

[Yes, SynScan] I have been watching the stars for nearly 5 decades now and have very slowly progressed through several backyard scopes along the way, 2 and 4 inch refractors, then my first Dobsonian back in '06, that 6 inch Dob lasted me just fine until this year, when fortunate circumstances allowed me the time, space, and money to go bigger. I am glad I did. So first of all B&H actually had this in stock, most other sites were out of stock on this and other comparable scopes of different brands. A B&H rep called me prior to shipping to confirm the order and delivery dates. It arrived less than a week later in 2 deliveries (base, then scope the next day). assembly was not difficult at all, instructions were straightforward and clear. took me about 40 min. and I go really slow...The mirrors were actually pretty close to alignment out of the box, but I did not get the scope perfectly collimated (I still need to get the proper wrenches for the secondary mirror) but I managed to get it fairly close, as the primary mirror is very easy to adjust. Then it was a wait for the weather to clear, and I FINALLY caught first light 3 wks later on new year's eve, we only had a few cloudbreaks but managed to get excellent (yet brief) views of a nice half moon and a really quick 5 minutes of Jupiter and the 4 Galilean moons, Jupiter's atmospheric bands crisp and clearly visible with a 25 mm eyepiece. I was not able to cycle through all my lenses due to weather and the new years party, but what we did manage to see with the included 25 mm was simply stunning, I can not wait for good weather to return, the collapsible design allows me to get the scope and base in the car and so far I am really impressed with the overall quality and performance of this scope, no buyer's remorse here, this is a hands-down 5 star review.

[f/4.9] Everything I expected it to be. The eyepieces were basic so I purchased an additional set as I knew they would be needed.
