Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi Guys, does this drive show up as 2 drives on the desktop ? My Pro Tools software requires two seperate drives, one for video and one for audio. Thanks

A: Hi, as mentioned above out of the box the G-RAID is set up as RAID 0 and will be seen as one drive. You can delete the RAID in Disk Utility, creating a JBOD, and then format each drive individually. (Call one Audio, and one Video.)If you are running El Capitan the drives will appear as individual drives in Disk Utility and you will be able to format each drive to create your Audio and Video drive.

Q: 2. Can you use this drive with USB 3 equiped computer?

A: Yes, the SanDisk Professional 12TB G-DRIVE PROJECT Thunderbolt 3 External Hard Drive can also work with USB 3 computer ports.

Q: 3. If a RAID 1 drive begins to fail, can the the user replace the drive or must the whole storage unit be shipped back to IoSafe for service?

A: This IoSafe 16TB Duo External Disaster-Proof Desktop Storage, would have user swapped drives. If you prefer to use a larger (or smaller) size drive or a different format, you may easily remove these drives and install ones that fits your needs. In the rare occasion of a hard-drive failure, the Duo creates two copies of your data on the two drives, ensuring your information is protected.

Q: 4. Can this drive be powered exclusively by USB-C? Or does it need Thunderbolt to be independently powered? Or is it only AC Power?

A: The SanDisk Professional 8TB G-DRIVE PROJECT Thunderbolt 3 External Hard Drive requires the included AC adapter to be connected to the unit in order to function.

Q: 5. Is the drive Raid 0?

A: No, there is no RAID as this SanDisk Professional 22TB G-DRIVE is a single drive.

Q: 6. Is it possible to buy this with an european plug?

A: The SanDisk Professional 22TB G-DRIVE PROJECT Thunderbolt 3 External Hard Drive comes with a USA plug, but plug adapters such as BH #WATAGUSAE are available.

Q: 7. Anyone have a review of this new design? The recent review is from the beginning of the year & has pictures of the old design.

A: The SanDisk Professional 12TB G-DRIVE PROJECT Thunderbolt 3 External Hard Drive is a reliable large capacity storage unit for Mac and Windows computers. If you have specific product questions you can reach out to our product specialists via email, live chat, or phone call to 800.606.6969.

Q: 8. Can this be connected to a network?

A: External hard drives like this SanDisk Professional 22TB G-DRIVE PROJECT Thunderbolt 3 model will not be able to connect to a network directly. They will need to be connected to a computer directly, using a Thunderbolt 3 cable in this case. For a similar solution that allows for connection to a network, I would recommend considering an NAS like this one: https://bhpho.to/3YyqwFt

Q: 9. is the HDD user replaceable?

A: The user manual states that changes are not permitted to the device.

Q: 10. How is the performance supposed to be different than the cheaper "Enterprise class" version of the same drive?

A: The SanDisk Professional 22TB G-DRIVE PROJECT Thunderbolt 3 External Hard Drive uses a Thunderbolt 3 host interface, whereas the SanDisk Professional 22TB G-DRIVE Enterprise-Class USB 3.2 Gen 2 External Hard Drive uses standard USB-C.

[ 3.5" HDD ] Synology is pretty standard and setup was pretty easy. I even rethought it and changed the name of the device, the workspace and added my fully-qualified domain name. After that I removed it from the online site and added it back without issue. It claims a Max of 12TB x 2, but I used two WD 14TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5 Internal NAS HDD and it had no issue recognizing the full capacity. Of course those are a marketing 14TB as opposed to a real 14TB, but still. No issues.

[ 3.5" HDD ] I am a professional video editor and was in the market for a reliable fast drive. In the past I used standard 7200 rpm drives thinking they were fine for my needs - and they seemed to work fine, but then I tried the G-Raid. I immediately noticed a big leap in speed - in everything from render times to no more drop frames during playback. I feel the G-Raid gave a big performance boost to my editing workflow. It is a bit more expensive than other standard drives, but it's worth it. I now use the G-Raid as my main media drive - and use the less expensive drives to do simple data back up, and that seems to suit my needs fine. I highly recommend this drive unit for any serious video or audio professional who is in need of a fast reliable external drive.
