A: These speakers are conventional passive devices that require power to drive them from an amplifier or home AV receiver.

Q: 9. Do I need brackets for new construction install?

A: The frame has 4 clips build in behind the bezel that flip out 90 when their screws are turned. No additional parts are needed. The best installation will be in an uninsulated cavity in one layer of 1/2 or 5/8 drywall, although I have installed them in doubled up ceilings and wood over drywall. You will want to keep the edge of the hole 1-2 away from any joist, truss, or stud, as it can interfere with the flip out clips if you cut the hole too close to something behind it.The owner's manual on their site should give you all the info you need. A: Yes, they need an amplifier. I have mine connected to the Sony amp which drives our home entertainment system. I didn't purchase anything extra or special for the speakers.
