The pci express video capturefrom pci express video captureis a four lane PCI Express capture card with three independent channels of video capture for 3G SDI, DVI and Composite video, with full analog and digital audio support. These three independent video channels can be captured simultaneously. The VisionAV-SDI also adds multiple channels of audio capture, which can be synchronized in software using time stamping with all video capture channels.

This half-length full height card features a full mechanical sixteen lane connector with notches which will enable it to fit 4, 8 and 16 lane motherboard connectors. The VisionAV-SDI also adds embedded audio capture from the SDI signal, which can be synchronized with the respective video channel. The video capture card provides balanced and unbalanced analog audio capture through an optional AM2 audio module. This provides a single flexible card solution for areas such as medical, lecture capture, web casting and video conferencing.

    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How well does this work for leagacy video transfer from VHS without dropping frames or stopping at dropped frames?

A: The HD Express likely would have worked well for this application, but since MOTU is moving away from video interfaces, I can't in good faith recommend the HD Express due to its compatibility limitations: If you need further assistance, please contact customerservice@motu.com.

Q: 2. Does this unit maintain the 4x3 shvs, composite and component 4x3 aspect ration when converted to HDMI?

A: The aspect ratio will remain 4:3: Default Mode: As explained in chapter 5, “HD Express Basics” (page 23), HD Express has two modes of operation: Capture and Playback. Your host video software determines the mode, depending on what you are doing (i.e. capturing or playing back the timeline). The Default Mode setting (Figure 6-1) lets you choose which mode the HD Express enters when the host relinquishes control over the HD Express hardware, such as when you quit or switch out of your host software. If you spend most of your time just monitoring or just capturing, operation will be faster if you set this to the mode you expect to use most. https://bit.ly/3w24jhS

Q: 3. I have an Asus Gaming laptop w/HDMI port. Using Adobe Premiere Elements to capture live DV. Will this device allow me to capture video?

A: This unit currently supports MAC operating software only. However Windows support will be coming soon, but that will work with Premiere Pro, not Elements. Also you will need a PCI Express Port on your laptop to connect it, the HDMI Port on your laptop is for outputting a monitor signal. You will not be able to capture video through that HDMI Port. You may want to look in to something like the Startech USB 3.0 Video Capture Device. This would allow you to capture a wide variety of inputs, it has included recording/streaming software and is compatible with Windows computers.

Q: 4. I read on the MOTU site that this has no support for Premiere CC. Has anyone tested this? will it work as a capture device?

A: Yes, according to recent tests performed with this device and Adobe Premiere Pro CC, there was no compliance between the two products.

    Q: 5. Does this support multi-vlan?

A: Sonnet does not provide any information about VLAN support for this product. You could implement a Layer 2 switch, which would give you the multi-VLAN support without having to change your ethernet adapter. Ubiquiti Unifi switches are an example of such solutions.

Q: 6. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) with thunderbolt and usb3. Is this product fully functional with a thunderbolt to express card adapter?

A: JMR makes a PCIe to Thunderbolt adapter that will allow you to connect this device to your computer. However its full functionality will depend on the specs of your computer more so than the connection. MacBook Pros tend to be powerful machines, even when they are a few years old, so I do not think there will be any issues.

Q: 7. Does it come with capture software? Or do you need to use an old version of Premiere Pro to capture? Can you also set how long it will capture for then stop?

A: It does not come with capture software, but should work on versions of Premiere CS5 or later, as per manufacturer specs. In and out points are not set on this device but should be entered on the software interface being used.

Q: 8. Will this maintain original 4x3 aspect ratio from legacy video formats with the black bars on the sides (which is preferred) but without the black bars on the top and bottom (kind of like letterbox which I don't want) when used as a stand alone analogue to HDMI converter without using its own recording capability or hooking it up to a computer?

A: This device retains 4x3 aspect ratio with pillar bars (no letterbox needed for this aspect ratio), but ti does not function as a standalone unit.

Q: 9. does the hdmi out on the back output signal at the same time the hdmi out to the pci card is used?

A: Yes, the HDMI out port is available at the same time as the connection to the pci card.Thank you for your question.

Q: 10. Will this unit work as a stand alone analogue to HDMI converter to use to feed a DataVideo HDR-1 mpr recorder maintaining legacy video 4x3 aspect ration with the black bars on the sides of the picture but not black bars above the picture (kind of like a letterbox) without connecting it to a computer or using the Motu's own recorder?

A: No it is not a stand-alone product.

[15.5 W] I use it on a PC with Avid Media Composer and Premiere Pro primarily for playback on my LCD screen via HDMI. I had some bugs at first, but finally found how to correctly update the firmware to version 1.07. Now, it's working flawlessly. But you have to choose the right video output format depending on the NLE you are using if you are working in progressive mode. I got a few crashes that required a system reboot. But I am not sure of the cause right now.

[0.85 lb] I've got a Mac Pro (Late 2013) and using an external Thunderbolt 2 to PCI add on. I wanted to connect my Mac to 10GBe, but needed a supported card (from Mac OS X - Montery). This card works out of the box in that situation (the other version with just a SFP+ socket should work as well, I just went with this on since is was $50 cheaper at the time). You need the low profile bracket but it should come with one (mine was missing, but the manufacturer sent a replacement). It's working great!!

[15.5 W] I needed a HDMI 1080p and 7.1 surround monitoring solution for my MacPro running FCPro and Logic 9. I already have a Black Magic Intensity Pro which has worked well but could only route 2 channels of audio over HDMI. The HD Express install was seamless and has no problem sharing the PCIe buss with the Intensity Pro card and a Sonnet eSATA card. I like the fact the HD Express can also route 8 channels to the 8 RCA output providing many more monitoring configuration possibilities. Only downside, HD Express is not totally compatible with Pro Tools 10. PT can access the HD Express for audio output but not video. However, I am able to run 7.1 audio thru the HD Express and 1080p video thru the Intensity Pro so far without any problems. The MOTU HD Express just might be one of the best and least expensive solutions for getting HDMI video and 8 channels of embedded audio out of the MacPro in support of monitoring video and 7.1 surround in FCPro and Logic 9. I highly recommend the HD Express,

Between this 10G card and installing NVME, plus the Sonnet USB3 4 port card, you'll be breathing life back into an 11 year old Mac Pro, still able to edit Video Live off a NAS/Server using Premier Pro, Photos with Lightroom off NAS/Server and much more. Bottle neck? The Internet LOL!!. Come on, where can you go wrong here. Im the original owner for this Mac Pro too.
