Q: 1. Does the Rotation 34 have any sort of actual frame to support the load, like a backpacking pack? A frame sheet, aluminum or Delron hoop, anything like that? Or does it collapse when empty? Thanks!

A: No, it does not have an Aluminum frame. The outside does keep it from fully collapsing. And it is made to use inserts and the inserts will prevent it from collapsing as well.

Q: 2. Is the 34L carry-on friendly?

A: The MindShift Gear Rotation 180 34L Photo Backpack has exterior dimensions of 22.8 x 13.4 x 10.2". Most domestic USA airlines have a carry-on limit of roughly 22 x 14 x 9". Since the dimensions are very close, depending on how the bag is packed one may or may not be able to take it as carry-on. Keep in mind the permissible size varies by airline and specific flight, so always double check before flying.

Q: 3. Does this have room for a camel back bladder?

A: Mindshift Rotation 22L does not have a space for a bladder. Only the 34L and the 50L do.

[6 x 5.9 x 2.3"] I love this bag! The functionality and practicality is just beyond impressive. Lowepro has done exceptionally well with this bag.

*** Of note *** one person here mentioned that you can't add the peak design clip on the straps. That is INCORRECT. I was able to do it within a few minutes.

Things I like:
- Lots of space
- Lots of pockets
- Easily accessible and quick access pockets
- Lot of room for lenses/camera's etc.
- Very comfortable to carry even with heavy way (mine has gone up to 50lbs)

Things that can be improved:
- No clip-on items for keys
- Laptop compartment not padded (can be solved with a slim case)
- No quick side access for camera

[0.3 lb] My first camera backpack and I love it so far. I'll be going out today for the first time in a snowstorm but I'm confident it'll work great. The protection for my gear is outstanding and well thought out, well manufactured and has all the pockets I need.

[0.3 lb] My wife got this for me last year for my birthday and we finally had a chance to use it hiking some steep trails at Mt. Diablo in Cali. The tripod holder is great and the pockets are plentiful and conveniently located. I only carried two lenses and a camera body but there was plenty room for more and the top pocket was perfect for our water bottles, lunch, and layers once it warmed up. It felt super comfortable and my wife was even willing to strap it in her back because she found it so comfortable! Highly recommend it!

[6 x 5.9 x 2.3"] Pack is really great, and because it is a direct replacement for the Mindshift Gear Rotation 180 Panorama, the MindShift Gear rotation 180 Degree Panorama Photo Insert (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1026979-REG/mind_shift_gear_820_rotation_180_panorama_photo.html) fits PERFECTLY into the upper compartment and expands the ability to safely carry additional photo gear!

Have had great experiences with MindShift backpacks and so far, this is another winner!!

[6 x 5.9 x 2.3"] Cover fits perfect and works great so no complaints there. I feel for the price of the backpacks though, Mindshift should include this, like they do for ThinkTank products. Another item of note is that when packed down the cover is a little bulky in it's bag, so take that in consideration when planning what to bring.

[6 x 5.9 x 2.3"] This is my second Mind Shift Rotation 180 camera bag (I still have, and regularly use, the first one, which I purchased in 2013). I travel frequently with my gear and find that the storage volume and flexible storage configurations work very well for my needs. The bag is extremely well designed and constructed. The gear is protected, yet the bag is light weight and the straps can be easily adjusted to provide a comfortable fit even with heavy loads (medium format gear with heavy prime lenses plus tripod and filters). The zipper pulls and compartment clips are sturdy and accessible, even if you're wearing gloves. The train cover is a key accessory if you are hiking/shooting in variable weather conditions.

My favorite feature of the Mind Shift bags is the rotating waist-level compartment. It's a secure and convenient place to store your camera and essentials while hiking, but is easy to access without taking the bag off of your back. This is a fantastic and innovative feature, particularly if you are wading in snow or water, or just in sloppy conditions where you really don't want to put the bag down. The entire bag can also rotate around your waist to access the central compartment, where I typically store lenses, filters, laptop, etc., again without taking the bag off of your back. I really like it that the lenses are inaccessible and secure when you are carrying the bag, until you rotate it.

In summary, Mind Shift makes an awesome, and innovative, bag. Can't imagine owning and traveling with anything else.

[6 x 5.9 x 2.3"] Hailing from Australia I was nervous about international shipping more so than the quality of the bag (which had received great reviews). Although I'm late to the party, this bag is excellent. The service from B&H was exemplary and I will have no hesitation ordering from them online again soon.

[0.3 lb] Many of these backpacks with features that allow easy access to the camera without taking the bag off are just gimmicks (learned the hard way). This one is not a gimmick, it actually works! Very satisfied. Very comfortable to wear as well.

[6 x 5.9 x 2.3"] I've purchased a number of backpacks in the past but none that allowed me to quickly access my camera. Not any more with this ingenious pad design! I'm still working on the muscle memory needed to move the belt pack in position and back but I'm getting faster.

[0.3 lb] I have a history of acute sciatica and because of this have often made do with various waist packs and modular belt systems.
But I wanted a backpack for extended hikes in all terrain/weather that would accommodate a full frame DSLR, lenses and gear, as well as provide room for food, water, clothing, etc. A good lumbar belt and internal aluminum frame were also essential features to help protect my lower back. I initially thought the Lowepro Powder 500 AW would be too big but kept coming back to it and finally decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did.

The dimensions are actually quite suitable and I've found the pack comfortable even under heavy loads. The lumbar belt keeps the bulk of the load on my hips while the shoulder straps are easily adjusted on the go to increase or decrease the impact on my shoulders.

While a Nikon D810 with an AF-S Nikkor 300MM F/4 IF-ED and TC-14e ii attached can fit inside it is pushing the limit of the compartment so I opt pack them unattached with plenty of room remaining for additional lenses or another camera body. The upper compartment is quite adequate for packing a day of food and clothing. A 2L Hydrapak fits nicely in the side bladder pocket. A tripod/ball head ride well on the other side.

I initially tested it with a light load and short hike and gradually increased weight and distance as my confidence in the pack grew. With each outing I've been increasingly pleased.

Minor quibbles: I wish there was an easily accessible pocket that would fit a smart phone. The lumbar belt has zip pockets that will hold batteries, memory cards, etc, but not a phone. I'd also like the top cover to provide more actual coverage but the compartment beneath is closed with a drawstring and if it's bad weather then it's time to use the rain cover.

It's a nice looking pack with great functionality and most importantly, my back approves.
