The tripod microphone stand with boomis designed for venues, touring, and studios as a vocal boom, drum overhead, or as a general room microphone.

The microphone stand features a boom clutch and innovative level lock system to make adjustments, as well as a new patent pending weighted symmetric torque tripod base to ensure the tripod legs never go bad or droop while the stand is tilted. To counterbalance a wide range of microphone weights, the stand utilizes a new patent pending stacking counterweight system with 1, 2, and 4 pound weights, with a 2 pound weight included in the package. A precision ram-formed mounting point reduces weight in both the boom clutch and the microphone threads.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the collapsed size?

A: Just over 40 inches when fully collapsed.

Q: 2. What are the thread widths?

A: The thread on the end of the K&M mic stand is 5/8"-27.

Q: 3. does this stand come with clips to attach mic cable to stand?

A: Yes, one snap-on clip.

Q: 4. Is the 79 height the max height of the straight mic stand, or the max height with the boom extended? I need a boom stand with a tall stand, and then the boom.

A: 79 is the max height of the straight stand portion only.

Q: 5. How tall is the mic stand itself, or how hight does it extend without the boom arm?

A: The base of the Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand reaches a height of up to 63 inches. The telescoping boom arm can extend up to 33.9". Together these components allow the MS-5230T to reach a total height of almost 96 inches when the arm is oriented directly upwards.

Q: 6. Does this work well with a Rode Pod Mic? Or too heavy?

A: Yes, the Rode PodMic can be mounted on the Auray MS-5230T tripod mic stand. You may want to use sand bags on the base of the stand to prevent any movement. If you want a stand with a heavier base, the K&M 21070 Tripod Microphone Stand with 32" Boom - Black (B&H # KM21070) is a good option.

Q: 7. Can you detach the tripod base from the main rod that fits into it?

A: No, it is not possible to detach the tripod base of the MS-5230T from the stand's main rod.

Q: 8. 2 questions. What's the difference between the K&M 210/6 & 210/9 Tripod Microphone Stands, and a fixed boom comes with both? Fixed Boom is a microphone?

A: The difference is that the 210/6 has a fixed boom, and the 210/9 has a telescopic boom so it's length can be adjusted. The boom arm is the part on top of the vertical pole that allows you to position your microphone, which will be attached to the end of the boom arm.

Q: 9. what is the tripod leg length, and tripod maximum diameter?

A: Each of the tripod legs is approximately 14-inches long, with a total footprint of about 28-inches..

Q: 10. What size Threading Adapter do I need?

A: It really depends on what device you are trying to connect. The standard threading is 5/8 -27.

[Screw-Knob] I had a cheapie stand that would invariably droop about an inch or inch and a half after you tightened it. Then I got this one and it's rock solid. The mike will stay where you put it. If you want to keep it out of frame this is the stand to get.

[Telescoping] I looked at a lot of stands, K&M stood out for over all quality. If you want something that is going to hold up over time, K&M is the way to go.

[Black] There's a reason K&M mic stands are the industry standard. They are simply among the best on the market. Sturdy, reliable, consistent. They may be a little more money but over their life they will save money. This stand does not come with a storage bag, so I would recommend getting a bag/case to carry it unless you already have storage for it.

[Telescoping] We put one stand on each side of the anchor desk so the students can be heard without the mics showing in the camera shot. The tripods are adjustable and the clips help keep the cords in place.

[21.5 lb] I really like the stand. It folds to be very compact. It has some weight to it so you don't worry putting a handheld on it stretched out that it might fall over. The boom arm is a single piece so I think that is the only functional downside. But it's $30 cheaper than the other option from K&M. I appreciate the discount for what I feel is a very small sacrifice. I did order 3 of them and 1 of them seems to have been cross threaded from the factory where the main shaft and boom arm screw together. It still feels very sturdy and the lock ring seems to grip well so I'm not bothering with an RMA.

[21.5 lb] I've been using cheap boom stands for many years, and am constantly frustrated with how often they malfunction or just break. (I usually blame the musicians...)
But this K&M boom mic stand is SOLID. It's also a lot easier to adjust, as the knobs are machined better. No musician is going to destroy this thing!

[21.5 lb] I recently lined the K&M 210/2 microphone stand up against a budget imitation by Auray (BH #AUMS5230F). As you can see in the picture, I've adjusted both stands to hold identical Shure SM58 microphones in the same position. Visually, the stands are almost indistinguishable.

That all changes as soon as you touch the microphone. The K&M stand feels solid where the Auray is very tippy extended this far. I measured the stability difference. The microphone and stand together tip the scales at 3.45kg for K&M and 2.35kg for Auray. The front leg under the boom supports 1.75kg for the K&M and 1.4kg for the Auray. A little bit of math tells me that the rear legs each support 0.85kg for the K&M and just under 0.5kg each for Auray. It takes nearly twice as much force to start tipping the K&M stand and-if you do tip it slightly-the lower center of gravity means it has to be pushed further before gravity takes over.

Don't get me wrong; the Auray stand is a great value if your usage scenario involves small microphones in a static environment. They're a great match for my pencil mics. If, however, you use a larger vocal microphone where people will be moving about then it's worth investing in the K&M stand before your expensive microphone takes an express trip to the floor.

[Telescoping] This microphone tripod is solidly built and very well made. Should last a long time. Love it!

[42 x 9 x 8"] Simple and reliable. Went from a $30 stand to this and is most certainly worth the extra $40 if you can afford it, especially if you use any large-diaphragm mics.

[Telescoping] I use this stand on stage for rehearsals and performances and for recording. Its sturdy build quality and tight adjustment clamps make this mic stand superior to the average budget stand and I have had no issues with imbalances, drooping, or other mechanical failure. PROS: The stand is surprisingly light for its strength. There are at least four possible adjustments: base/legs; overall height of boom; angle and length of boom, and tightness of clip adapter. It looks sleek and professional and is clearly durable. It was also very easy to add a quick-release mic-clip adapter. The included cable clips are a nice touch. CONS: I have few if any negative comments to make, although for the price, I would have liked a telescoping boom and/or counterweight, particularly for studio use, but it excels on stage with no problems.
