Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens come with a hood?

A: Yes, a lens hood is included with the purchase of the Panasonic Lumix S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. Lens. As indicated under the "In The Box" section under the Overview tab on our website for the Panasonic Lumix S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. Lens, the following items are included with the lens' purchase: Panasonic Lumix S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. Lens, Lens Hood, Front Cap, Rear Cap, and Limited 1-Year Warranty.

Q: 2. Since the Panasonic Lumix S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. Lens has a zoom lock switch, can I assume that it extends when zooming? Does it have internal focusing?

A: This lens has internal focus but not internal zoom.

Q: 3. Will this work on a Sony 70-200mm G master lens?

A: Yes. The lens foot has two different sized mounts. 1/4-20 and 3/8. Use them both. Install the bushing into the foot with slot out for removal. This should give you a solid connection. This plate is the same as our 2 1/2 inch lens plate and will work with any lenses that use our plate #2130.

Q: 4. Two questions: How is this lens compatible with film cameras, as your website shows, when there is no aperture ring? Which Nikon digital cameras is this lens compatible with? Thanks.

A: This Nikon 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6 lens will be physically compatible with any Nikon F-mount camera, film or digital, because Nikon has not changed their mount. What has changed are the additional features and capabilities offered depending upon which camera it is attached to. On a film camera, you are correct, there is not an aperture ring to adjust on the lens. On APS-C (Nikon DX) crop-sensor digital cameras (DSLRs) this lens is fullt compatible with all autofocus, aperture, and stabilization (VR) features currently available to DX cameras--with the additional 1.5x crop factor (105-450mm equivalent). Full-frame FX digital (DSLR) cameras will have all of the above capabilities without the additional 1.5x crop factor.

Q: 5. I've read that this lens is not fully compatible with D810..What features are not exactly compatible?

A: Got this from Tom Hogan's web site: The following cameras have no way to set VR and may change focus position if the cameras meter goes inactive (requiring you to re-obtain focus): Df, D5200, D7100, D7200, D750, and D810. All other Nikon DSLRs should be considered completely incompatible with this lens. Further note that this is a fly-by-wire lens, so while it may appear to mount on those other Nikon DSLRs, you cant focus the lens manually, thus the incompatibility warning.

Q: 6. Is this lens fully compatible with the nikon z7 combined with the FTZ adapter?

A: Yes. I have a Z6 and it works great. Quick, accurate focus, vr, exif data, all. AF-P 70-300 with FTZ actually focuses faster than Sigma 100-400. Hopefully Sigma can upgrade (improve) their (OS) stabilization, and increase focusing speed on their beautiful lens. Now, has anyone tested this lens+FTZ with a 1.4-1.7 teleconverter? I know Nikon's don't work.

Q: 7. Does this 70-300mm zoom work with the (2) Lumix doublers, like the DMW-STC20 Lumix S 2x Teleconverter? Thanks

A: I'm sorry, no, the converters only work with the Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/4 O.I.S. and the Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S.

Q: 8. How does it work with Oly cameras?

A: This lens is for the L-mount series cameras from Panasonic, Leica and Sigma. It will not fit the Micro 4/3 series cameras by Olympus.

Q: 9. Nasim Mansurov - Photography Life - states that this lens is unusable with D600-D610 bodies. Is this correct? Thanks

A: Mansurov review is not for this lens

Q: 10. Is this lens fully compatible with thw new D850?

A: This lens would be compatible with the D850, but with limited functionality.

[Aluminum alloy] This lens is great on the SL2! Quite a bit smaller than the Sigma 100-400 which is also great IMHO! But for every day carry in a smallish ONA Rochester bag this is great! Very happy with image quality too!

As a macro, it's also good, and give a pretty long working distance. Check out the photo.

[1/4"-20] This lens replaces my 55-135mm TL, as it has stabilization, longer reach, and weighs only a little more than the TL lens. Color is Leica-like, and the lens is plenty sharp, even good for incidental bird photography of more confiding birds. B&H's shipping was fast, although they might want to consider using a bit more tape for international shipments, as the box was nearly open at one end when I received it.

[0.5 oz (13.6 g)] This lens pairs perfectly with the S5, the IS helps a lot while shooting hand held at the 300mm range. This lens is Sharp, produces great Bokeh, it is nothing like other zoom lenses I have use in the past at this price point. B&H did a great job keeping me updated with the shipping progress.

[0.1 lb] Thrilled with this lens. I've become an avid birdwatcher lately and this lens is perfect for that an many other wildlife photo opportunities. I'll be visiting a couple national parks soon and this lens will DEFINITELY be in my camera bag.

[Aluminum alloy] I preordered this lens on April 8th and it finally arrived on July 16th and IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!
PROS:
Super Fast Focus on my S5
Nice weight and size, feels like it was made for the S5
Solid construction even though not a Pro Series Lens
OIS with Body IS gives an incredible use of a shutter speed that is 5.5 f-stops
Beautiful bokeh over the entire zoom range
It really is a Macro lens, not 1:1 but VERY close, Amazing!
Overall Color capture is excellent
Convenient Switches for Focus Limit, Zoom Lock, O.I.S and AF/MF switch with a nice feature of an raised dot to let you know where that is without having to remove my eye from the viewfinder when I want to change to Manual Focus
Weather Sealed
Panasonic hit a HOME Run with this lens
Oh and Preordering got me the Instant $250.00 savings but even at the current price it is well worth it and I would buy it.
Cons: Really nothing, some would say the f4.5 but a larger aperture would just bring more bulk, weight and cost and with the Dual IS and 5.5 stops for me f4.5-5.6 is not an issue!
The attached photos are just some quick shots after I took it out of the box, nothing fancy but you will see just how diverse this gem is. Straight from the camera except the Gold Finch which was cropped file size reduced by 10%.

[Aluminum alloy] Its image stabilization and light weight make it easy to handhold and get sharp shots w/o tripod. Autofocus works very well, including tracking a fast moving hawk. Despite many complaints about poor CL batter life with image-stabilized AF lenses, I had no trouble getting over 200 shots since I only use the EVF.

[1/4"-20] I love using this lens on my Lumix S5.
It's sharp, light, compact and is easy to carry around.

[0.5 oz (13.6 g)] I find the lens quite useful in a variety of situations. The color is excellent; the distortion is, at least to me, invisible. I've attached a handheld shot using facial autofocus. There are better lenses for significantly more money, of course. But it is more than capable of portrait and nature photography of professional quality.

[0.1 lb] Feels great in the hand. Nice tight zoom (though I preferred the zoom worked in the opposite direction (but that's just a personal preference). Love the results I get. Excellent, lower cost, alternative to a Leica with an extra bump in the zoom department!
