Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this help with vignetting when using a smaller filter?

A: No

Q: 2. Can this be used to screw in 58mm accessories to a series & lens like Leica R 90/2.8?

A: The Leica Telephoto 90mm f/2.8 Elmarit R 3-Cam Manual Focus Lens has a 55mm filter thread. Use this adapter to mount Series 7 filters to it. General Brand 55mm-Series 7 Step-Up Adapter Ring (Lens to Filter) B&H # GBAR55S7. Use this retaining ring to hold the Series 7 filter in the adapter. General Brand Series 7 Retaining Ring B&H # GBRRS7.

Q: 3. Is this meant to be threaded onto a lens with a 55 mm filter size, or a lens with a series 7 filter size?

A: This ring is meant to mount a Series 7 filter on a lens with a front diameter of 55mm

Q: 4. What is the difference between this one and SESDR7767 which is the same brand but doesn’t have “pro” in the name?

A: The Pro has knurled edges for a better grip and corrosion resistant aluminum alloy.

Q: 5. Are there any side effects (vignetting, i think is the term used) when using the smaller 77mm filters on the larger 82mm lens?

A: Hi again Steve, just received your reply. I did not consider going to a full frame camera. Throwing that into the mix especially with a 24-70 lens I think pretty much would cause vignetting. Going from an 82mm down to a 77mm equals about one-quarter inch that would equal a one-eighth inch reduction on each side of the filter's rim. I would expect you'll get a lot of vignetting. One consideration is that the Sensei 82-77 step-down ring is not really expensive and if it caused too much vignetting you're not out a lot of money for the ring itself. I buy that brand, as they work very well and at a low cost. I would say to start saving for 82mm filters; I think you'll fine more vignetting than you'll want to deal with, especially going to a full frame camera and that lens.

Q: 6. Is this m52 x 0.75 male thread? Also, what is the external diameter of this step down ring? Thanks

A: Yes, the 52mm end is male. I'm sorry but the external diameter is not available, you can contact Heliopan for more specific info; HeliopanDistributed By - H.P. Marketing CorporationTel: 800-735-4373 Website http://www.hpmarketingcorp.com/ Email info@hpmarketingcorp.com

Q: 7. How can I use an 82mm filter on a 77mm lens?

A: A step down ring can be used but will cause vignette issues. We do not suggest doing so.

Q: 8. Might be a dumb question but can this be used with a 77mm filter on a 62mm lense? from the description it seems like its meant more for the other way around

A: This ring is to attach a 62mm filter to a 77mm lens thread but for wide lenses, that's a no-no, vignetting will occur.

Q: 9. Confirming, front inner threads are 62mm, rear threads are 67mm?

A: Yes, the front threads are 62 mm and rear thread are 67 mm on the Sensei 67-62mm Step-Down Ring. The Sensei 67-62mm Step-Down Ring is a step-down ring permitting the use of 62mm threaded filters on a 67mm threaded lens.

Q: 10. Any observed drawbacks when used on a Sony G-Master 85mm (77mm) with a 72mm Zeiss Polarizer ?

A: There will always be issues using a smaller size filter than the filter threads of the lens. Most notably you are likely to get vignetting.

[77 mm to 72 mm] Excellent choice.

[0.08 lb] You need to be very clear why you are buying a Step DOWN filter adaptor ring; but this product is well made and sold at a good price. I bought my 77 down to 72 mm ring to fit a Yougnou macro lash onto the 72 mm front of my Canon 100-400 L II lens. At f19 I cannot see any vignetting.

[0.08 lb] Threads on both sides are machined accurately. Reasonable price for a brass stepdown ring.

[77 mm to 72 mm] If your concerned about anti-binding or absolute strength (like using it to attach lens modifiers, not just light filters), this is the best of the best. The premium aluminum rings are great too, this just goes the extra mile, but the cost premium can hurt a bit.

[0.08 lb] I know step down rings are very simple pieces of metal. But I was relieved to see that they fit well on the lens And my filter fits well on the inside ring. (I have seen worse...)

[0.08 lb] Works great on my Nikon D750 with Nikon 28-300 lens (normal 77mm filter mount). Can use all my smaller 52mm filters. No vignetting as long as you use the DX in-camera crop option, found on the D750 menu. You should not use these filters in FX Full-Frame mode.

[77 mm to 72 mm] This ring is well made and fits perfectly. As others noted these do not have to be put on too tightly as it may be very difficult to remove.

[Brass] Not much to this device, but it works as advertised. I purchased this product to step down from the 82mm fitting on Fujinon TH16x5.5BRMU lens that comes with the JVC GY-HD100U camera to a 72mm Cavision PWA06X72 wide angle adapter. Fit is clean and result is low profile.
