A 77mm Light Yellow #6 Filter from Tiffen is used for a slight increase in contrast with black and white films. Although not as strong as a traditional Yellow #8, it can still be used to make a difference in your photography. You'll find it boosts your contrast just enough to make the difference between a black and white print flat appears "flat" and one that displays the proper correction.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process

Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly makes its filters in the USA and backs up its products with a solid 10-year warranty

Q: 1. Considering this filter for the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art lens, so vignetting should not be an issue for a telephoto. However, lack of front threads or provision for a lens hood is an issue. Is there a solution?

A: Hey Danny I haven't found a solution for a good, but never look hard after a solution either. I use it with my L series zooms and I can't never use lens hood with it. It is one of the smallest nd out there but still not small enough. Hope it helps

Q: 2. How many stops will this filter give me compared to the 58CP filter?"

A: This Tiffen 72mm Variable Neutral Density Filter can reduce exposure from between 2 stops to 8 stops; the Tiffen 58mm Circular Polarizing Filter will reduce exposure about 1.2 stops.

Q: 3. Can I use this to photograph a partial solar eclipse?

A: Read this B&H article about the eclipse. VND filter won't be dark enough. Article says you need solar filter or #14 welders glass.https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/solar-observing/ci/33818/N/3583558376/sba?utm_source=appboy&utm_medium=push&utm_campaign=Eclipse%2020170802&utm_content=B target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/solar-observing/ci/33818/N/3583558376/sba?utm_source=appboy&utm_medium=push&utm_campaign=Eclipse%2020170802&utm_content=B/a

Q: 4. Is there a way to make them fit in the Rokinon lenses? I heard Rokinon lenses doesn't have a way to add filters.

A: All Tiffen screw in filters require filter threads. We make the VND filter in 52, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77 and 82 mm sizes. We recommend you contact Rokinon for specifications regarding their lenses

Q: 5. Can I mount this on top of a circular polarizing filter? Is there a downside to doing that?

A: The Tiffen VND filter consists of two circular polarizing filters...two CP filters together create the VND effect. Mounting this on top of a circular polarizing filter may cause some undersired effects such as cross polarization, vignetting in addition to difficulty adjusting the two filters as both turn and are adjusted by hand... if you mount the CP, then the VND it would be difficult to control both as they are turning. We recommend using a straight ND and then a CP instead.

Q: 6. Will this fit the Canon EF 50mm lens?

A: There are three different Canon lenses which match your description, each one takes a different size filter. Please visit the URL below and then click on the lens you have. Once on that page scroll down and click on SPECS. The filter thread size will be listed here.

Q: 7. I want to achieve vivid, saturated colors in scenes with lots of natural light. Will this filter help me with that?

A: The use of hte Tiffen 82mm Variable Neutral Density Filter is to reduce the amount of light getting to through the lens. Many use this to shoot wide open and or at a very slow shutter speed. It is not made to increase saturation.

Q: 8. will this Tiffen 77mm fit on a GM 70 200mm lens? or should i get the Tiffen 82mm? it's for a present, so i do not understand how these measurements work. Thank you!

A: The diameter of the screw mount lens is often indicated (in mm) on the lens, along the outside edge of the front element, often with a greek letter Phi (circle with vertical line through it). If the lens isn't present, you might look up its specs on B&H website.

Q: 9. Does it work for 18-35mm Sigma Lens ? Blackmagic6kg2?

A: Yes Tiffen 72mm Variable Neutral Density Filter is compatible with Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF

Q: 10. I have a Canon MIII. Will this Tiffen 77VND work with a 50mm lens?

A: Whether this filter will fit your lens depends on the exact 50mm lens. The front diameter of the lens is generally printed on the front or stamped behind the lens cap.

[Aluminum] From the time of their introduction to the market, panchromatic emulsions have been know to retain some of the sensitivity to blue light than the human eye does. Modern emulsions are better, but still benefit visually with the use of a Wratten #8, a.k.a. K2 yellow filter. Being a throwback stubbornly devoted to film, my lenses always have a #8 aboard, whenever I’m making black and white images, unless other contrast control filters are needed for specific circumstances.

I can’t say I have done any technical comparisons between the actual bandwidth of filters manufacturers, but have used Tiffen filters for years, with no problems. My only minor gripe is they use aluminum instead of brass rims, which can lead to more frequent jamming, unless extra care is used when installing them. In a perfect world, they would use brass for their rims, and maintain their price point. And my car would start reliably at temperatures below freezing...

Users should always keep a filter wrench in their kit when using these. I also treat my filter’s threads with a VERY LIGHT film of synthetic lubricant like SuperLube or Syl-Glide.

Avoid lithium grease for all photographic equipment! It’s reactive with most of the alloys used in our precious gear, and degrades into a hard cheesy mess over time.

Anyway, Tiffen filters have never disappointed, and are a fine choice, compared to the pricier brands. Of course, ULF users probably could care less, but still—

[Aluminum] I've decided to standardize on 77mm filters going forward. That way I need to buy only one of each color/type. I have no plans to buy or use any lens using filters larger than 77mm. I'll use step-up rings to adapt the filters to those lenses I use that use smaller diameter filters. this filter is a quality item and I've rated it at '5' for that reason.

[Aluminum] I use my Tiffen #8 Yellow filter for pgotography with black-and-white film to correct its over-sensitivity to blue light, as in the sky. Tiffen is my favorite brand of filters.
