The Tiffen 72mm Warm UV Camera Filteris a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. This filter is especially useful when photographing at high altitudes or around bodies of water. No additional contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.

This filter also provides the effects of an 812 filter for adding more warmth to imagery in order to create more pleasing skin tones. It counters the bluish color casts of electronic flash, overly shadowed conditions, and other overwhelming cool colorations.

The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology; a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work on a canon xf100? And will this variable ND blur out the background of shots if necessary?

A: Yes, the XF100 has a 58mm thread. The nd filter cuts down on light thereby opening up the aperture to let more light in and giving less depth of field and blurring the background, and will only do that if you can adjust the aperture of your lens.

Q: 2. Is this filter enough for taking photographs to a solar eclipse without damaging the camera?

A: No, you need a specialized solar filter. This is far from strong enough to aim at the sun for extended periods of time.

Q: 3. Will this work on a Nikon 200mm F2? The filter is installed near the rear element.

A: This filter is designed to thread onto the end of a lens which has 52mm filter threads. It is not a drop in filter.

Q: 4. Hi,i have EOS 80D Canon with 18-200mm lens, what kind of filter do i need to use , what is the best?kind regards Gary

A: At the minimum, the Hoya NXT UV, although the HD series gives you excellent protection, as well.

Q: 5. Can a polarizing filter fit over the UV?

A: It should. Most filters have a female and male thread. So essentially you could stack many filters on top of one another. Obviously though there'd be some loss.

Q: 6. Does ir cut only serve to reduce red from sunlight or is this also necessary in artifificial light like LED?

A: LED white lights typically remove unused spectrums to save on power so the difference under artificial light should be minimal. The largest gains will be under sunlight and UV/IR specific lighting. Unless the camera is full spectrum modified you will likely see very little difference under any light but almost none under modern artificial lighting. I would not buy an IR cut filter unless the camera is full spectrum modified as your camera already has one built in and UV filters are much less expensive. HTH.

Q: 7. Hu guys, I'm after a UV filter for a Canon 16-35 f2.8 II. I think I've narrowed down my choices to: (a) Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital FilterB&H # HOUVH82 ? Mfr # XHD82UV(b) Hoya 82mm HD2 UV Filter B&H # HOUVH282 ? Mfr # XHD2-82UVI'm just wondering what the main difference are between the two.Is it just a case of the HD2 being thinner? Is the Haze on the first one a reference to a colour/effect? Thanks for your help.

A: The Hoya HD and HD2 filters are the same except for their respective warranties. The HD filters has a one year warranty and the HD2 have a limited lifetime warranty. The Haze feature on the HD model is to reduce the hazy effect on a bright, sunny day.

Q: 8. What is the difference between a 62mm Heliopan UV Haze filter #706001 and #706201?What is the meaning of the B&H 62mm Haze filter having a Grade 010 ?Thanks!

A: The two Heliopan filters are the same. The 706001 is the 60mm version and the 706201 is the 62mm version. The filter you are referring to, http://bhpho.to/1owREJu is a B+W filter. 010 is the models that have multi-coatings.

Q: 9. Does anyone know what the UV transmission is at 350 nm for this filter? Hoya's own website doesn't have a transmission curve shown for this filter.

A: we do not know. maybe sending Hoya and email.

Q: 10. Has anyone used this filter with an ultrawide lens? Is it thin enough to use on my 11-20mm?

A: You will not have any problems with vignetting when using this filter on the 11-20mm lens.

[Glass] Purchased as the full-time protection filter for my Canon 50mm f/1.4 EF lens. Most of my photos are outdoors in available light, and the sky light does cool my photos to some degree. I find this warm UV does warm the images pleasantly but not enough to be obvious or intrusive. I also normally buy Tiffen filters whenever possible; I think they're good quality and they're made USA.
