              Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between the 3rd edition and the latest 4th?

A: Naturally, the basics remain the same. The photography and features available in the newer cameras have been worked in. I find this a great book to read, and re-read, even though I have been doing this for fifty years. I am constantly recommending this book and have several editions in my personal library.

Q: 2. Does this come with stereoscopic (red and blue) paper glasses or do I need to buy some separately?

A: The book does not list that it comes with any glasses.

Q: 3. Does this book have sample model releases / templates?

A: Yes, this book has sample release forms.

Q: 4. Can I use foam board with the dry mounting press?

A: It looks as though you can mount onto foam core--although we do not do so here. I would keep the temperature on the low side to not melt the foam core-no higher than 185-190? and maybe adjust the pressure if needed. I found the manual online that speaks a little bit to foam core use (but I can't place the link here)And there is a type of foam core that has the adhesive already on it (but I can't place that link here either...): it's called Speed Mount by Bainbridge. It looks like many people have success with foam core--hope this helps!

Q: 5. what is the maximum temperature of this device? safe range please...

A: The temperature range is from 170-215F.

Q: 6. What's the thickest media the press can handle?

              A: up to 1 inch.

Q: 7. Does the paper book come with access to his ebook as well?

              A: No. Hard copy only.

Q: 8. What is the largest print you can dry mount? How do you dry mount prints that are larger than 18 x 23?

A: I do a lot of 16x20 prints, but to do larger than that , say a 20x30, you just pass the print through the press and do it in sections. Just make sure you don't over lap the mounting tissue if it's not large enough to cover your entire size, or you will see a line in your final print.

Q: 9. What type of power do you need to run this machine?

A: This unit is for use with 230 VAC, 50 Hz at 20 A.

Q: 10. How do I get this in audio format?

A: The Amphoto Book: Understanding Exposure, 4th Edition: How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera is not available in audio format.

[240] It was a fun read. This was the first book I bought and it was well worth it. There are good tips and I learned a few things. I am picking up one of the other books in the series because I enjoyed it so much. Highly recommend for a new photographer or even one with some experience!

[240] Even though some of the technology information in the book is getting dated, the information is very valuable both for beginners and those who have some night photography experience. My favorite part was the night photography history not found in other books. Definitely a must read!

[Peachpit Press] This book explains in readily understandable terms the fundamentals of flash photography. It contains some eureka or 'now I understand' moments and my flash photographs are now so much better than before. Bryan Peterson refers to his flash as a 'portable sun' another light source and he is so right. I can't think of any downside to the book if you really want to master flash. You will not regret buying it!
