The classic standard zoom now featuring Vibration Reduction image stabilization, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR Lensis a truly versatile wide-angle to short telephoto lens characterized by its constant f/2.8 maximum aperture and electromagnetic aperture mechanism. A revised optical design incorporates a unique aspherical extra-low dispersion element, in addition to three aspherical, two extra-low dispersion, and one high refractive index elements, to help reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range in order to achieve high image sharpness and clarity. The Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings further benefit image quality by reducing lens flare for improved contrast and color accuracy and fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements protect against dust, moisture, and smudging.

Complementing the imaging capabilities, a Silent Wave Motor AF system produces quick, quiet focusing performance that suits both stills shooting and movie recording, which can instantly be manually overridden by simply turning the manual focus ring. Further contributing to photographing in fast-paced situations and difficult lighting, VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake by up to four shutter speed stops. Additionally, an electromagnetic aperture mechanism is integrated into the lens design to provide greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with faster continuous shooting rates.

Standard zoom designed for use with FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, this lens is also compatible with DX models where it will provide a 36-105mm equivalent focal length range.

Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and using selective focus techniques.

A unique aspherical extra-low dispersion element is incorporated into the optical design, along with three aspherical, one high refractive index, and two extra-low dispersion glass elements, to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations, distortion, coma (comatic aberration), and flare for consistent edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination.

Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings have been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting.

Vibration Reduction image stabilization helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed stops to better enable handheld shooting in low-light situations.

Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.

This mechanism limits the compatibility of this lens to the following cameras: D5, D4, D3 series, Df, D850, D810, D810A, D800 series, D750, D700, D610, D600, D500, D300 series, D7500, D7200, D7100, D7000, D5600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3400, D3300, D3200, D3100, Nikon 1 J1, J2, J3, J4 with FT-1, Nikon 1 V1, V2, V3 with FT-1, and Nikon 1 S1, S2 with FT-1.

Weather-sealed design, a rear rubber gasket, and fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements are able to withstand dust and moisture for working in harsh environments.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. HOw would this lens do when taking baskeball games in a gym with low light ?

A: Depends on how low the light is and what camera you pair it with. However, compared to their other lenses this would e one of the best zoom lenses for indoor basketball.

Q: 2. Is the lense brand new or refurbished?

A: This lens is brand new with a 5 year Nikon USA warranty.

Q: 3. I'm thinking of purchasing the Nikon D850 camera and was wondering about what would be a good first lens to buy for this camera. I was thinking of either the Nikkor AF-S 24-70mmf2.8E ED VR lens or the Nikkor AF-S 105mm f/1.4 E ED lens and I just wanted to know which one would be the better choice. These are both great lens and I'm having a hard time making up my mind. Price wise there more or less close in price to one another. But I want to know which one would be the better choice and for what reason. Or would there be another lens that someone could recommend instead of these 2 choices. Thank You!

A: I feel like that's trying to answer whether pizza or ice cream is better! ;) These two lenses are pretty significantly different, so it depends what you're going to shoot. The 105 is smaller and a little lighter, and captures and extra f-stop of light. But it's a fixed resolution lens; does that length suit what you'll be shooting? Is this going to be your only lens for the time being? For *me*, the 24-70 is much more versatile, and giving up one f-stop isn't critical (especially with a camera as good as the D850) -- but that doesn't mean it's better for *you*; it depends how you're going to use the camera and what you're going to shoot.

Q: 4. I was wondering if this Nikon 24-70mmf2.8E ED VR lens is compatible with the Nikon D500 camera. Which I know is a DX format camera with the 1.5 crop factor. But I know that you can use some FX format lens on the D500 camera. And I was just wondering if this lens is compatible with this camera. Thank You!

A: The 24-70 will work fine on the D500. However, it is a large and heavy lens. You might want to consider the 16-80mm DX zoom.

Q: 5. Is this lens, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR Lens, weather resistant or weather sealed? We plan on using it outside almost exclusively.

A: I have used its predecessor in hard rain all day, in snow all day, in 30 below zero all day, and I expect this version to hold up as well. However, I'm beginning to show signs of wear.

Q: 6. what is the difference between this lens and Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S Lens?

A: The AFS lens if for Nikon DSLR cameras and the Z lens is for the Nikon mirrorless system.

Q: 7. compatible with D800?I tried one, it doesnt focus or let me change aperture..not sure if it the lens or just not compatible

A: It should be compatible. I used it with mine.

Q: 8. Where is this lens manufactured?

A: Unfortunately, Nikon has yet to provide us with that information.

Q: 9. Does this lends work with D750?

A: I purchased this lens for my D750 and have used it almost exclusively since doing so. I used the 24-70 for some longer shots and was able to still reasonably crop in tighter with very acceptable images.

Q: 10. how is this lens for taking pictures at night in the city and out in the country away from the lights of the city?

A: 1. It's a 2.8.2. Camera sensor attributes more or determines the quality more of low light photography than lens would when you are talking about city. 3. Go for it. It's a lens you won't regret.

[0.27x] Upgraded from the original 24-70mm due to my older shaky hands. Works great, very sharp, much much faster autofocus on my D500.

[82 mm (Front)] Not as bulky as some complain. I'd call it hefty but actually feels comfortable when supporting with my hand for a shot. Little use so far but photos seem to be as expected - great.

[24 to 70mm] This lens is beyond amazing! Every image I've shot with this Lens are sharper than any previous 24mm-70mm I've previously owned. Plus, using VR I can shoot handheld at 1/4 sec. - extremely fast, 100% accurate AF.

[84° to 34° 20'] I have been wanting this lens for many many years. Use to rent it when I photographed weddings a long time ago. Finally broke down and bought it and I am so glad I did. Excited to use it on all my future session!

[3.6 lb] Was really torn between this lens and the Tamron equivalent, which some reviews say is sharper at some focal lengths. Couldn't confirm the Tamron would work with the automatic focus stacking of the Nikon D850, plus read an extensive review comparing the two that indicated the Nikon had less onion ring bokeh. Had a 500mm Nikon mirror lens about 20 years ago and I hated the ring bokeh so bad I sold it for a loss.

[9, Rounded] I owned the non VR version of this lens, but when Nikon added VR to this lens, I knew I had to have it. Great lens.
