The 2" diameter barrel Explore Scientific 92° 12mm Eyepiece (2")from Explore Scientific 92° 12mm Eyepiece (2")is a wide-field telescope eyepiece with eight optical elements. It is designed for planetary and deep-space observations. Its wide exit pupil and long eye relief make this eyepiece ideal for comfortable viewing for extended periods. The contrast is enhanced by a fold-down rubber eyecup that prevents stray light from leaking into your eye.

Antireflective multicoated optics ensures bright, high-contrast images with true color transmission across the entire wide field of view. The eyepiece features a textured surface for a sure-grip when changing it out, and it is argon-filled for water and fogproof performance when used in extreme temperatures and climates.

[12mm] This is my first 2" EP and my first 82 degree FOV EP. The view of the double cluster (I could see both in the FOV with my Meade LS-8) was simply spectacular. I was a little anxious about spending close to $300 for an EP. However it is definitely worth the money.

[92°] I replaced my 2 inch 30mm GSO in my 8 DOB with this ES eyepiece and the clarity massively improved. Colors are good in Orion's nebula and a lot of Andromeda fits in it. This is my go to eyepiece for general looking around. Built like a tank and weighs as much as one. This eyepiece will out live me.

[12mm] I have other ES eyepieces but this is my first 100°.
It truly is a thing of beauty, but it's the size of a 12oz pop can.
If you have a reflector (I'm sing an Edge HD 8) be prepared to add some counter weight to the front of the dovetail.

[92°] Explore scientific oce again confirm its reputation. This eyepiece is really the best in its category, along with rhe Tele Vue Nagler but at half of that price: difficult to do better. Its huge apparent FOV, its contrast and its flat field make it a must for all owners of a long focal SCT.

[19.9 mm] Bought this eyepiece as a mid-power upgrade for my trusty 19mm Panoptic since it can give me a wider true field of view and more magnification and better eye relief all in one package. The views through it are stunning. It's sharper and more contrasty than the 19mm Panoptic. It's even a razor sharp planetary eyepiece which I was not expecting. Its sharpness and contrast revealed features in Jupiter's clouds that the 19mm Panoptic and 20mm Series 4000 Plossl I compared it with could not. There was no noticeable ghosting or light scatter - Jupiter was a crisp, clean orb just hanging out in a vast chasm of space. Using it in my 8 F/10 schmidt, the field is flat with no noticeable curvature. Stars exhibit coma at the edges, but that's due to the telescope, not the eyepiece. My only complaint is that eye placement is finicky in this eyepiece. Too close or too far away and you get blackouts. I would rate it as NOT comfortable to look through because of this, and takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, it performs brilliantly.

[3.155 lb] I don't know much about eyepieces but I do have 4 explorer scientific. The 4.5mm and 8.5mm 82 degree, the 17mm 92 degree and the 30mm 82 degree.
I like them all but I really like the 17mm and 30mm.
I can't give any technical details but I can tell you that the 30mm is a pleasure to look through. The same can be said for the 17mm. It would be hard to choose between the two if i could only have one. I guess I would have to go with the 17mm because of the wide field of view plus greater magnification but i would really miss the 30mm.
And I would definitely go with B&H, i recently tried another store in NJ and got ........
