The Vello Accessory Kit for Sony Alpha a7 II Mirrorless Camerais designed for use with the Sony Alpha a7 II, a7S II, and a7R II mirrorless cameras. The grip holds one or two NP-FW50 batteries which effectively doubles shooting time when both batteries are installed. The design of the grip provides a comfortable way to hold and shoot with the camera in the vertical position.

The BG-S3-2 features a vertical-position shutter-release button, an alternate AF/MF/AEL button, three custom buttons, rear and main control dials, and an on/off switch. It is designed with an anti-slip rubber grip and firm curvature to further improve handling. The grip screws into the camera's tripod mount, and it incorporates a tripod receiver mount on its bottom for attaching to a camera support, quick release plate, or bracket. A metal mount allows you to attach a camera strap or hand grip strap to the BG-S3 for convenient carrying.

Q: 1. Does the grip interfere with the use of the le-a4 adapter?

A: I have the le-a3 adapter and there is no interference from the hand grip.

Q: 2. will this work on a9 and 7III?

A: I think the A9 uses a bigger battery.

Q: 3. Can batteries be individually swapped out without powering-down the camera?

A: In order to change 1 or 2 batteries in this grip, the battery tray needs to be removed. Therefore, power will be lost during the change.

A: Yes, the battery door is stored on the inside of the vertical portion that inserts into the battery compartment of the camera. There is a special compartment on the battery grip vertical piece that allows you store the cover.

Q: 5. Can you not charge the batteries while they're in the grip and connected to an outlet/battery pack?

A: The batteries do not seem to charge while the grip is installed and the camera is connected to the USB charger.

Q: 7. Sounds like there is a potential issue with the A7Rii. Has anyone experienced bugs with the A7sii? Such as the grip causing the camera to change settings on it's own? I had a Neewer grip for the a7s and there was a bug that kept making the custom button 2 engage randomly...Try to stay away from that!

A: No bugs with my A7sII so far. Much better quality than Neewer as well. Get it!

Q: 8. Would this work with the Sony A7sii? If not, which 3rd party battery grip will work?

A: Yes, this grip is compatible with the A7S II.

Q: 9. Does it work with the alpha a7?

A: i use it with the A7ii

Q: 10. What are the differences between the Vello BG-S3 Battery Grip & the genuine Sony grip other than the humongous price gap?

A: Technically they do the same thing. Many prefer the cameras manufactures version over a third party brand. That is very subjective.

[0.605 lb] Because the Sony Battery Grip is so $$$$, I suppose I assumed one at this price couldnt be any good. I was wrong! I did fear that raising the center of balance on the camera might make it impossible to balance on the Zhyiun Crane 2 gimbal, but that, too, was wrong. It balances just fine. 100% satisfied. 5

[0.605 lb] I have the Sony A7R2. After much consternation in deciding whether to go for the Sony battery grip, I bought the Vello version. It is excellent. Construction is excellent as are the button placements and price. There is no question that I made the correct choice. 5

[1/4"-20 Female] I'm glad I purchased this product instead of paying the ridiculous price for the Sony one. The build of it feels pretty good and works as describes. The only con is, one of the batteries is a little tricky to get in and out. Otherwise, no issues. 5

[0.605 lb] Fits my a7ii perfectly holding 2 batteries for extended life. the grip is a fraction of the cost for the original Sony model. Its plastic and not quite as robust as the original, but for 1/4 of the price it cant be beat. Seems to have all the features of the original including a built in holder for the camera body battery door 5
