Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I just got the Nikon D750. I just want to make sure that this lens can be used; because the manual says to use Nikon accessories only . So would it be able to be used safely with out camera damage, or not?

A: Yes I use that lens on NIKON d200, D600 & D800e no problem great lens

Q: 2. Can it be used for Canon RF mounts - and if yes, do all functions fully translate?

A: You'll need a Leica M-mount to RF-adapter to use it on an R-series camera. This lens has no electronic functionality, so there are not really any functions that require "translating" per se, but you will have to set your camera up to shoot "without a lens" as the R-series cameras will not realize there is a lens mount and won't fire without that feature enabled.

Q: 3. Will this lens work with Canon 7D ?

A: Yes, it will fit any Canon EOS mount. It excells in portraits and general artistic image making and video on both my 5D II and 1D IV.

Q: 4. Can i buy a vented hood for this lens?

A: Yes you can use this hood: https://bhpho.to/3qNHFXq

Q: 5. Is this lens chipped for exit data transfer for Leica M digital bodies?

A: No, the ZEISS Planar T* 50mm f/2 ZM Lens (Black) is not chipped.

Q: 6. Does it fit a Leica M5?

A: The Zeiss Planar is a typical M-mount lens. It does not protrude into the camera body, so it should not interfere with the light meter mechanism of the Leica M5.

Q: 7. Can this lens work with Leica SL2-S attached with M to L mount adapter?

A: Yes, the lens is M mount and the body is L mount. Best adapter would be this one. Leica M-Adapter L (Black) BH #LEMATB • MFR #18771 https://bhpho.to/2UZlbs7

Q: 8. How would you compare this to a Summicron M or even R? for ease of focussing and overall impression?

A: Some might argue that Leica glass is unmatched. Given that the overall build quality and results you get from it are exceptional, a Leica lens is probably the last lens you will ever need. Thus if you have the funds, buy a Leica lens. Alternatively, the Zeiss is a much more affordable lens and an exceptional one too. Clinically sharp and good build quality, you will not be disappointed. I myself have used Zeiss for my Leica camera for roughly 3 years now, and I am constantly satisfied with the results in my photographs.

Q: 9. Can I use this lens on Canon EF camera with adapter?

A: The ZEISS ZM lenses are designed for M-mount cameras with a flange distance of 27.8mm. These lenses cannot be used on cameras utilizing a longer flange distance, such as the EF mount cameras.

Q: 10. Dear all, How do you like it on your Sony a7 serie?

A: The ZEISS Planar T* 50mm f/2 ZM Lens would be excellent when mounted on the Sony A7 series cameras with the appropriate adapter. One such adapter is the Metabones Leica M Lens to Sony E-mount Camera T Adapter (Black), BH #MEMBLMEBT3 (https://bhpho.to/41Iu3zQ).

[0.4 oz / 11.3 g] Sharp as a tack. Beautiful mechanics. Small, light - and a real value over the Leica 50mm. This lens hasn't been off my M10 Monochrome since I got it. What a find!

[0.4 oz / 11.3 g] This lens is magnificent. It's well-made, just as well as any Leica lens, including the Summilux. I think people confuse the excessive stiffness of a focus ring on a Summilux with build quality. It's perfectly sharp and contrasty wide open. The image quality is hard to complain about. Some people say it's clinical but that's just another way of saying my photos are boring without interesting optical effects introduced by the lens. On the negative side, I am not a fan of 1/3 increments in aperture. Another minor complaint is the blue dot marker, making it hard to see when changing lenses in the dark. And finally, this lens (just like all Zeiss designs) is not the smallest. To be specific, it's kind of long... see the dimensions and map to your expectations. I am a huge fan of compact lenses and ultimately I decided to downgrade to a slower but MUCH shorter Summarit f/2.5 for the same price.

[0.4 oz / 11.3 g] Call me old fashioned when it comes to lenses but this is one of the best 50mm lenses you can buy. For practical work, 2 is more than fast enough and the small size and weight is perfect. I scratch my head when I look at how lens makers can make an 2 lens weigh many times as much and be three times larger and for significantly better performance.

It's been said that nobody ever took a good picture on a standard lens but I disagree. You just have to think a little harder. The planar design has stood the test of time. This lens is sharp enough, fast enough and well made enough for anyone, and the price is good compared with the Leitz alternatives.

[0.05 lb] I bought this and the 35mm f/2.8 for my Leica M2 and they both ROCK! Very nice construction. Smooth movements and great image quality. I love the 1/3 stops. Makes sense, don't it? I am not sure why I waited in buying these.

[0.05 lb] When shooting 35mm film, sharpness is super important to me. This lens is really fantastic. It's beautifully designed, produces lovely images and has been excellent for B+W. Strongly recommend for those shooting on M mount film cameras.

[0.4 oz / 11.3 g] I bought this lens to use it together with a Summilux 35mm on my Leica M10. I was looking for a good lens not too much expensive in order to get closer when needed compared to the main 35mm. It's very small and light compared to my experience with some other Nikon/ZF2 Zeiss lenses but it features the same excellent build quality.

[0.05 lb] I use this lens with leica m9 for daily use. I think this is a good example of a fantastic compact lens. It gives fast speed, great sharpness while wide open at f2. Quality is great with everything metal. The rings are smooth. I absolutely love it. There is no other lens at this price range would perform like this one.

[0.4 oz / 11.3 g] I recently bought a used copy of the 50mm f/2 Planar ZM for my Leica M10. This lens really showed me more of what the camera is capable of. The sharpness really became apparent when I took some landscapes of some interesting weather. If you're like me and shoot mainly 50mm, the Planar is a great, high-resolution choice. B&H got the lens to me in the original packaging. Rangefinder focus calibration is spot on and the focus ring nub works great. The Planar is a performer.
