Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens compatible with Nikon 2x converter?

A: This teleconverter has not been tested by ZEISS on the Milvus 135 lens, so a recommendation cannot be made.

Q: 2. What would be a better option for portraiture, This Lense of the canon 35mm 1.4 ii? (Ps I already own a 85mm)

A: When used with a full-frame camera, a 35mm focal length is a modest wide-angle lens and is well suited for environmental or group portraits. When the same lens is used on a camera with an APS-C sensor, then it behaves like a 'normal' focal length and is suited for head-and-shoulder portraits.

Q: 3. I'm wondering whether to go for the Tamron 35mm 1.8 VC and benefit from its AF and VC or to get the Zeiss Milvus 35mm f2 distagon. I use the D800e and own the Nikon 24-70 f2.8. I am looking for a prime lens with this focal range, i.e. the 35mm, to use for street photography, and really don't want to carry the weight of the 24-70. I don't mind a manual lens and I am more inclined to get the Milvus, but it's also around 650g and I'm not sure if the manual focusing will stand in the way. So Tamron vs. The Milvus? Thanks. One more thing, if you think the Milvus is a better option, should it be Milvus or the Zeiss classic f2 zf2 diatagon?

A: Hi there,I am a big fan of the Milvus Zeiss Family. My latest purchase which is from B & H is the Milvus 35mm F2.0 which is used for portrait and street photography to me this is a gain for a lense that is tac sharp point to point. I have no regrets over my purchase and please allow me to put you at ease on the manual focusing which is fast and accurate as I am using the Nikon D810 to pair up with the Milvus 35mm f2.0. This lense is light and worth carrying around. My advice to you is to get the Milvus and not the Classic ZF2 Distagon because the Milvus are considered the next generation of new lenses produced by Zeiss with better coatings and newer technologies to reduce flare, ghost and also barrel distortion. The Bokeh produced by the 35mm f2.0 is fantastic. Last and not least the 35mm f2.0 is also weather seal. You will not regret buying a lense with so many positive comments with a plus.Laurence

Q: 4. Is it only manual and auto

A: The Zeiss Milvus 35mm f/2 ZE lens is a manual-focus only lens, but its aperture can be electronically set, either manually (M, Av) or automatically (Tv, P, Auto).

Q: 5. When used on A7Rii with adapter, does it provide focus confirmation? Thanks

A: I'm using my Zeiss manual focus lenses on an a7R iii and find the focus peaking assist on the camera indispensable to sharp, sharp...sharp images!

Q: 6. Do I need an adapter to use this on Nikon Zf? Will it work the same as the manual Voigtlander lenses?

A: To use the ZEISS Milvus 135mm f/2 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F on the Nikon Zf Mirrorless Camera, you need the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter, BH #NIFTZ2.

Q: 7. Does it go on a Nikon D810???

A: Yes, the Zeiss Milvus ZF.2 4-Lens Bundle for Nikon F are compatible for use with the Nikon D810 DSLR camera.

Q: 8. Is this lens made in Germany?

A: The Zeiss Milvus 35mm f/2 ZE lens is made in Japan.

Q: 9. How many aperture blades, and are they curved?

A: The ZEISS Milvus lenses; like their Zeiss Classic predecessors, have 9 aperture blades.

Q: 10. Aperture

A: The ZEISS Milvus 35mm f/2 ZE Lens for Canon EF has an aperture range of f/2 - f/22.

[0.4 oz / 11.3 g] Got a copy of this lens from one of the first early batches that shipped. The construction is rock solid. The manual focus and focus markings are buttery and bold, with more throw distance then any of the Nikon G lenses I own. It does not interface well with my D610 body if I want to manually adjust aperture on the lens dial. De-clicking the aperture and using it on the D610 is also weird as a spring or lever on the D610 prevents the loosely adjusted aperture dial from staying in place well. Those can be problems, but I don't care about those in the big scheme. If taken this lens for two still photo assignments and had great results with mild paced action sports. When I focused the lens manually properly, the images were stunning. Overall I've been using this lens on the Sony FS5 using one of two Metabones adapters, a speed-booster ultra and another just Nikon F to Sony E-mount adapter. I LOVE this lens for video, which is primarily why I purchased it. As of today I plan to add the Milvus 50mm 1.4 and 85 1.4 lenses to my camera bag as soon as possible. I'm not seeing any relevant issue of chromatic aberration and wide open in real world use I'm not seeing any distortion or vignetting worth noting, if any. This lens has some weight to it.

[0.06 lb] Build quality is outstanding! Great results if used properly. I found it hard to use on a most crowded and noisy place since I rely on my cameras focus sound as I can?t hear it when it hit the focus so you have to look at the light it get the focus. It?s a little challenging to use in a noisy place at least for me. But the color and sharpness the photo it produces is amazing! I have the lens for 6 months now and I love it! Although it?s not my general lens to use but surely I?m keeping it for years to come

[0.4 oz / 11.3 g] It's my first manual focus lens, and it's already changing my shooting process for the better.

[0.06 lb] I was going to buy the Canon 35mm lens, but am happy I opted for this instead. Quality is excellent. Yes, heavier than most, but it hasn't been a huge issue and I've gone on several hikes with it, carrying it, etc. No problems with camera shake or focus issues (which I have had with Canon lenses). I tested my ability to hand hold down to 1/15 and was able to do it (never with the Canon lens). The manual focus is not a problem ... as another reviewer suggested, I use the focus assist (green light in the viewfinder). The resulting photos are stunning and I've eliminated a lot of issues I was having with Canon lenses, which frees me up to focus on more important things, like getting the shot. I'm probably going to trade up my Canon 50mm lens for the Zeiss eventually. Other things: background blur is nice, chromatic aberration is definitely a thing under certain conditions, if you want a light-weight lens, then reconsider. But, this lens has brought my confidence in my photographic ability back (because I was having so many performance issues with the Canon lenses I was doubting myself). Glad I bought this and would recommend it.

[0.4 oz / 11.3 g] Bit the bullet and decided to give manual focus lens a try. This lens is awesome, very sharp, great build and smooth, accurate focus.

Worth every cent...

[0.06 lb] Most people are concerned with sharpness. I have never had a 35mm prime that's sharper wide open at f/2. When mounted on a 60mp sensor camera this Milvus delivers the same amazing resolution at f/1.4 as my $6K Leica Summilux FLE. The trade-off in this case is probably weight, it is quite heavy/bulky for a f/2 35mm prime. Perhaps this lens phenomenal performance helps explain the absence of Zeiss Otus 35mm - there's simply no need, no room for improvement over this Milvus. Frankly, for roughly a thousand dollars this lens is a bargain, if you don't mind the weight.

[0.06 lb] The feel in hand, richness of colour, and subject isolation make this lens one or my favourites. I can't believe the price of this product versus the other options I've tried (including the Nikon 28mm f1.4). Yes, the manual focus is a hassle, but the results can be oh, so enjoyable!

[0.06 lb] I needed a 35mm lens in my bag for mostly grab shots and some landscape. I am using this manual focus lens on my D850 and the sharpness and micro-contrast are incredible. I have retired my older 24-70mm non-VR zoom lens and will be adding other Zeiss primes. By holding the lens underneath near the lens cap I am able to handhold this shooting the D850. The CA is there, but it is not severe and easily correctable in LR. The range finder on the D850 is very good and I have found that by focusing just to the right of the left arrow (in front) as the circle appears is the sharpest focus. For my first Zeiss lens I am very happy and will be adding more as $$ permits. I will say the focus peaking feature of the D850 works well in Live View and I also have found that you can rack this lens to infinity and be safe it is in focus due to the hard stop at infinity on the Zeiss. I am hoping the Nikon Z7 will be just as compatible with the Zeiss ZF.2 lenses.

[0.06 lb] I LOVED THIS LENS SINCE THE MOMENT I TOOK IT OUT OF THE BOX. THE CONSTRUCTION IS GREAT AS EXPECTED FROM ZEISS. NO AUTO FOCUS MAY BOTHER SOME PEOPLE BUT, IF YOU GET USED TO IT, YOU WILL END UP ENJOYING IT. SHARPNESS IS AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN ANY OTHER LENS OUT THERE IN THE MARKET. BUT WHERE THIS LENS COMES AHEAD OF ANY LENS OF THE SAME PRICE OR EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE ONES IS: IT'S UNIQUE RENDITION OF COLOR, HERE THERE IS NO EQUAL. BEAUTIFUL LENS. I HIGHLY RECOMEND IT.

[0.06 lb] Sharpest lens I have ever owned, and just a lovely thing to behold. I'm a landscape guy, so the 35mm focal length (full-frame) is kinda my normal lens. Never seen one better.
