Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Many lens owners and test reviewers, including Camera Labs, have observed and documented on the web that the vibration reduction system in this lens will not properly function between 1/80th second to 200th second, and produces blurred images at these speeds. Camera Labs reviews go so far as to not recommend this lens until the vibration reduction problem is corrected. All indicate this problem has been brought to Nikons attention without response. How will B&H assure persons purchasing this lens will receive a properly functioning lens?

A: All of our customers have the benefit of our 30 day return period should there be any dissatisfaction with a purchase.

Q: 2. How well does VR work with D7000? How does this lens compare to 200-500 zoom, especially for bird photography?

A: This lens is not compatible with the Nikon D7000, due to the electromagnetic diaphragm inside of it.

Q: 3. Will Nikon RT-1 collar attach to Nikon 300mm PF f/4 and Benro PU-60 quick release plate on MeFoto Globe Trotter Travel Tripod?

A: Yes, the Nikon RT-1 Tripod Mount Ring For 70-200mm f/4G Lens is the correct collar for the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens. This can mount on the Benro PU-60 Quick Release Plate on the MeFoto GlobeTrotter Travel Tripod.

Q: 4. Is this lens weather sealed?

A: There is a seal at the mount but not throughout the lens.

Q: 7. Will this Lens cover fit my Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm ED 4D?

Q: 8. Where are the reviewers obtaining this lens.? I can't find one at B&H or any other supplier.

A: B&H has already received and shipped this lens to those who pre-ordered it. The reviews are from those who have received a lens. We have more pre-orders than we could fulfill with our first shipment. That is why the lens is still listed as out of stock.

Q: 9. Would this lens be a good choice for videoing ice skating competitions and do you always need a teleconverter for this lens?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens is a great lens for recording ice skating competitions. It offers a long focal length and wide aperture that offers great quality in low light. It can be used as is, no teleconverter is required.

Q: 10. If the RT-1 Tripod Collar is not compatible as stated in a question above, why is it listed as a recommended accessory on the B&H product pages? Can we get a consistent response?

A: The RT-1 is compatible with the new 300mm f/4PF lens. I have both the lens and collar and they work just fine together. Nikon lists them as compatible as well, check their website.

[0.15 lb] This is the second LensCoat product I've purchased. This one was purchased for a Nikon 300 prime lens, primarily to protect it from light bangs and scratches when I'm out in the field and, secondarily, to make the lens less noticeable to wildlife when I'm shooting. It's a win on both counts. Easy to fit over the lens and holds up well.

[0.15 lb] I've tried this lens a week ago indoor and outdoor. The lens is tack sharp and focuses fast. With the TC-14EIII there's no difference in focusing speed (Nikon D750). With the TC-17 there's a little slow down but not important, even for tracking birds in flight. With the TC-20EIII there's a marginal slowdown in focusing in good light, a bigger slowdown in a cloudy day.In any case, sharpness is not effected with the TC-14 and a TC-17. With the TC-20, there's a marginal degradation but it's useful anyway. The lens is surprisingly light weighted and a pleasure to use. When shooting into bright light (or sun directly) the lens drops substantially in contrast, and creates a rainbow of flare when the sun is in or very close to the frame.

[0.15 lb] I bought this as an experiment to see if 'camo' covers actually improve wildlife photo opportunities. I have seen many photographers with them, so I am trying it. an added bonus is the bump protection of the neoprene. The install was very easy and straight forward. The fit was spot on for a Nikon lens.

[0.15 lb] I had two LensCoat lens covers for larger super telephoto lenses, and liked them both. This is the first time that I have tried a LensCoat lens cover for a smaller lens. I am really pleased this product. The fit is perfect, including access to lens switches. Not only does this provide protection to the lens, but the lens is actually easier to handle (i.e., less slippery) especially in colder weather. I liked this product so much that I bought a few other LensCoat lens covers for some of my other lenses.

[0.15 lb] The LensCoat was as expected, easy to put on and has a very good feel. Because of the expense of the Nikon AF-S 300 f/4E, I felt it was worth protecting from scratches so this is the first LensCoat that I have purchased. Living in NE, the insulation makes it much more comfortable to use in the cold and I love the feel of the lens in my hand. Because Ishootmostly at high shutter speeds, I don't use the VR often but can tell it would be difficult to switch back and forth with the plastic cover. Regardless, I wouldn't cut this out because it does add some water protection around the switch and it is easy enough to lift the neoprene to make the change. It works for me and I would highly recommend this cover.

[0.15 lb] I have the new D500 and have had issues with my 80-400 VR ii lenses and wanted a prime long lens that I can carry and as I mainly handhold, I don't want something too big. The 300/4 VR does this in spades. I had rented it when it first came out and tho it was nice, I felt my 80-400 was quicker on AF on my d7100. The d500 is a game changer tho. The lens Is fast, light and pin sharp. As I do mainly wildlife esp birds in flight, fast AF is critical. I used it with both 1.4 and 1.7tcs with good results esp. with no uv filter. These things have a negative effect on long lenses in my opinion. I have several good ones from both Hoya and B+R. If. You are serious about fast action photography with longer lenses, try taking these things off!
