This 2-stop, 4 x 4" NiSi Nano IRND Filter 4x4 2-Stopis a 4mm ND filter with a 4x filter factor that provides a 2-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.6 optical density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters are intended to not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

Compatible only with NiSi C4 Filter Holding Kit, the design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. To provide a high level of neutrality across the visible and infrared spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks when using the NiSi 4 x 4" Nano IRND 0.6 Filter, one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating is applied to each of this filter's surfaces.

Q: 1. Which side should be facing away from the camera? I realize this sounds like a silly question, but since these filters appear to have identical coating on both sides, I'm curious if it should make a difference? Should I assume that the side with the engraved writing be facing AWAY from the camera? I just received 3 of these (3, 5, and 7 stop filters) and a bit dumbfounded! BTW, the quality looks fantastic, along with the packaging.

A: Since both sides have identical coating, it doesn't matter which way the filter is facing. We've taken them out on several shoots without noticing a difference either way.

Q: 2. I have the V5 set. If these have the gasket pre-installed, can they be stacked or used in the outer slots with one in the nearest slot?

A: You cannot stack more than 1 filter in each slot.

Q: 3. I bought three of these (2/4/6 stops) and only this 2 stop 4x4 doesn't fit into SmallRig Lightweight Matte Box. If all of them didn't fit I'd easily blame it on SmallRig as it's a super low level item, but apparently QC from Nisi is subpar?

Q: 4. How many stops would I need to do a long exposure of the direct sunset with a bright reflection off a river? I already have a 3, 6, and 10 and I can't get a past 2 second shutter speed with the 10 stop. Should I stack them or buy the 15 or 20 stop?

A: It is always better to use as few filters in front of the lens as possible so one 20 stop filter would be a better choice.

Q: 5. Does this have the scratch resistant coating which was demonstrated at NAB 2016?

A: Scott, these particular NiSi filters do have a scratch resistant coating, BUT, it is not the same as what was demonstrated during NAB 2016. NiSi has a new line of filters with a very strong scratch-resistant coating coming out later this year. That is what was being demonstrated at NAB 2016.
